Permenant fatigue.

Does anyone sleep all the time? An example, went to bed on Thursday night and slept right through till Saturday night. This is becoming more common place as time goes on. Occupational Health diagnosed Fibromyalgia because of the foggy brain, muscle pain and fatigue. My doctor agrees (as much as he can with a non diagnosis illness is concerned). I feel unable to do my job, I can't scrape myself out of bed and when I do, I don't have any trust in myself to data input efficiently. I've now contacted our H.R to see what options are open for me. I'm at a standstill at the moment and that's getting me down too. Ohh what to do. X

Fibro should never be diagnosed without a thorough testing process. Both the 1990 and 2010 diagnostic criteria for Fibro include that all other conditions that could cause the symptoms must be ruled out or identified before the diagnosis is confirmed. For this reason, an OT cannot diagnose Fibro definitively.

You may well have Fibro. But you could also have other problems.

FWIW, the characteristics of Fibro are widespread pain (largely unpredictable and not associated with localised damage or changes), widespread hyperalgesia (sensitivity to pain) and autonomic symptoms (anything caused by disruption to the autonomic nervous system).

I used the wrong word by saying OH diagnosed. Her suggestion was to go back to my G.P because in her opinion I had symptoms associated with Fibro. I'm waiting for an appointment to the rheumatologist to come through. Thanks for responding. x

Read over the narcolepsy stuff, definitely not that. I think all the symptoms I have can equally fit with Fibro as it does with M.E. The thing I do notice that differs is the sleep. Fibro sufferers seem to lack sleep where as I can't get enough. I have the pain, the headaches, IBS, the fog ect but even when I'm in a lot of pain, I can still sleep. Thanks for responding to my post, it makes a lot of difference to know folk are out there and they care. xx

I found that when I was working and pushing myself to hard I would sleep my days off away. But not a pleasant sleep. More like a fog. Wake up like I was in a thick stew xx

I can totally empathize with that. When I say I can't get enough sleep I actually mean my body can't get enough, I have no control over any of this at all. I go to work for so long, then I have to start going to bed about 7 in the evening then eventually that doesn't work and I have to give in and stop going to work. The guilt and anxiety about not going to work doesn't help, that's why I've a meeting with H.R tomorrow to see how we move forward. I was off for 6 month last year. The doctor said it was depression (and some of it was) but I received cognitive therapy which has been great. The way I feel now is the way I felt then only the depression is lessened this time. I'm at my wits end as to what to do next. I want to work but I feel so lazy. x

Thank you so much for your comments and link. I've just read through the M.E pamphlet. My symptoms match up exactly with M.E. I see my G.P tomorrow so I'll discuss things at that point. Thanks again. x

I have M E and i can tell you its not a normal sleep, its like you drift in and out of consiciousness, you cant move its a living hell, you wake up after not feeling refreshed at all, I can sleep for dayd like that, sometimes you seem awake but cant interact with anything or anyone its awful. I do hope you get some answers soon, but the utmost is that you put youself first

I completely agree with how you've put that...that's my experience too...I thought I had gotten up 4 times in total only to squint open my eyes and see I was still in bed. The worst part is, my partner now works away from home, I'm on my own (apart from the two cats). I eventually managed out of be the other day and found that the cats had tried to feed themselves from the bag of cat biscuits. I had been in bed so long the poor beggers were starving.

totally empathise with the sleep/starving cats thing!

My solution has been to put a second feeding station out for them, in the bathroom which is nearer the bedroom. When I go for a pee, I also top up the biscuits and freshen the water. That way, if I don't make it down to the kitchen, at least they are not going hungry! You could perhaps also put down secondary rations just in case.

Good luck with your GP visit. Hope you get the help you need.

So can you have BOTH? I have been diagnosed iwth FM for about 13 years,(but probably had it much longer) with the triger/tender points, and widespread pain, nueropathic pain etc. I can go for weeks/months unable to sleep, but on the other hand I can spend days in bed falling in and out of sleep, but not really sleeping with that zombie feeling, which is part of terrible fatigue that goes on for weeks/months, which is how I am at the minute.

I've been wakened for an hour (woke at 4.30), I didn't fall asleep till 3am. I woke up drenched in sweat and like someone had switched a light on (and thats what woke me up). Its the back and forth thats doing me in. I sleep, I can't sleep!!! Still, it's nice to hear the dawn chorus of birds in the trees outback. I've the doctors today and H.R this avvo so fingers crossed I move a bit further forward today. Have a good day everybody (or as good as you can manage) <3
