Its hard to explain but my body needs to stretch like its a automatic thing not liek when you get up of a morning and have a good stretch to loosen up its not quite that way, sorry if im not explaining this properly xx
Does anyone else have strange feeling... - Fibromyalgia Acti...
Does anyone else have strange feelings all over your body nightime. Its as if you need to stretch, not like you want to, your body has to?
The ability to reply to this post has been turned off.
Hi,,gosh i thought i was the only one who felt them,,,i always think its sort of like the feeling of lots of mice or rats runing over me,and all my muscles just feel so tense that i need to stretch,to likee you say loosen up,,,,i get it couple times during the day now,but nightime is so much worse.
Hi i ave fibro and its horrible...ave hr during day and tga me cant sleep at nyt no matter wot i do... I always hurt n ave a weird feeling going througg ma body as well as going hot so i can sympathize with u hen x
i made an account just to ask wtf did you say
Don't waste your time and the reader's time by making an opportunity just to mock a comment, at the expense of someone else. I understood what was said. this forum is for people to interact and get support for chronic and painful health issues.
Surely you have something better to do than to make fun of someone's writing or speaking?? ..maybe a bit more productive?
I also have fibromyalgia. This feeling of needing to stretch my back wears me out. I have Hashimoto Thyroiditis, so weird stuff is always popping up.
I sure Hope this reply pops up somewhere because this is the first time I’ve ever heard of anybody having the same thing. The need is SO intense I try not do it in public but it’s impossible because I just need to. It not affects my mouth (HAVE to stretch wide open). How stupid looking! My chest or maybe it’s my lungs that need to take stretchy breaths. Extreme itching like it affects my skin. Maybe even the need to stretch my skin. My god. Has anyone been diagnosed. It’s several times a day now. Today started affecting my hair and shirt. Have to pull it so tight. Almost yanking it off.
Yes kind of but its as if i have no control over if i stretch or not i just have to if you understand me my body just does it. Maybe its because im resting and inactive at night in bed that makes it worse or more noticable, thanks for your reply xxxx
I am new to this all. Got diagnosed with fybromylagia and DDD (degenerative disc disease) not one for Drs but knew something was wrong. I noticed it when I would drive for awhile then when I get out of I fight the stretch I can't walk right. So now I give in to the stretch and move on. Glad I'm not alone.
yep i do it everynight ! its weird i feel like its a dangerous move because its pushing me but i have to do it all the same! x
yep i do that and some times i stretch to far n my muscles go into spasmn not nice xx
Sounds like Restless Leg Syndrome....but all over your body ! I get it in my arms, as well as my legs = Restless Limb Syndrome. I have felt it in my chest at times, as well. Horrible condition. It doesn't matter how much you stretch or move around. The feeling just won't go away. Can't even sleep, which becomes frustrating. The more I fight it, the longer it lasts. Now, as soon as I get symptoms, I get up, take med given for it, with a cup of hot choc. I then watch TV, until it subsides, and I feel myself falling to sleep. Luckily (touch wood), I don't get it regularly. Yet another weird, hard to understand condition, to add to the list of wonderful Fibro complaints !! Ask your GP for med, if it becomes too problematic xx
Omg I get this horrible feeling everyday. Not just at night. It is worse at night but I get it during the day and when I'm asleep it wakes me up. The only thing I do is take pain meds and it makes it go away. What do I need to do? What can I take to make it stop? What is this? What kind of doc do I see for help? Please help me. This is driving me insane. Is there a name for this?
I am also suffering from this, i need to keep stretching my whole body, and my body goes into spasms. I'm in despair because I can't sleep at night through it. It disturbes me day and night. I have just recently had major spinal surgery, and i'm not sure if it has anything to do with that. I am going to see my neuro surgeon on Wednesday 8th October, so I will keep you posted.
I'm like that (except the recent surgery) and it is so irritating. It happens all day everyday and it hurts and I can't help it. It happens at school and can't stretch while I'm sitting down can I. I get this feeling all up my legs, in my feet, my arms, my neck,I between my fingers and toes and my chest. Anyway I would like to know if there is any solution to this? Please if anyone knows reply as I am in pain quite often and I'm gathering so are the people above as well.
Hi Kitty,
Just read ur little section, just wanted to wish u well after ur back op, and can u let us all know how u feel, and how the back op was to deal with, and how u got on with ur neuro surgeon on the 8th October??????
Hello, Kitty55,
I realize your post is 2 years old so I hope you get this reply. I also just had my 8th spine surgery and I have never had anything like this...when I'm in bed and I move my kegs my entire body tightens and then it releases. Sometimes in the morning after I get up it will do it too. My question is did your neurosurgeon ever give you a name fir this or a reason as to why? Do you still have it and if so do you take medication for it? I have also recently developed Restless Leg Syndrome and the medication I take for it doesn't help with this. I try to explain to my family what's happenning and the inky way I can explain it Us it's like eating something sour and your jaw dies that intense twinge (for lack of a better word) except when my body dies this it starts with the feet and moves up and Imblike as tense/tight as you can get then it's give. It isn't painful just very irritating. My legs from my ankles to below my knee cap also ache do bad that's why they started me in RLS meds...they work for about 3 hours. I look forward to hearing from you or anyone who can give me some answers. Thank you do much!
Kattskans
Hi Kitty55!
When I developed similar symptoms I accidentally noticed that extra salt made a big difference. Before going to sleep I had like 3g of salt and it seemed to be working. Because of blood pressure problems I was always avoiding salt. Additionally I was on diuretics. Couple of years ago I stopped taking them while traveling in Europe. During the trip my spasms stopped. Then I came back home and started taking diuretics again. My terrible morning spasms returned with a vengeance. So it was obvious to me that I had some kind of electrolite imbalance. Taking a bit of salt every night reduced my spasms, but I started to have problems with controling my BP. Now Im taking small amounts of magnesium, potassium, zinc (I have confirmed defficiency)and Vit Bs in the evening . Still take very tiny amount of salt. Most of the morning I'm spasm free.
The most astonishing thing was to me that my blood tests were showing normal amount of sodium when my salt intake increased like 500%???? I know salt is helping me on one hand , but causing problems with my BP. There is a really fine line.
B.
I know this is an old post but this is such a good idea and I am going to try it! I will be using pink salt. Is it still working for you?
I was just searching online for some answers as to why this keeps happening, and your post makes so much sense, I think you might absolutely be right about the electrolyte imbalance.
Not only do I have fibromyalgia, but after years of being on pain meds in my early 20s I developed quite an opiate habit, and once the meds were taken from me I picked up pills off the street, and then heroin.
There's been an endless horror story since then I'll have a year sobriety and then I will slip and then another year and then I will slip again. My wife has turned into a nightmare surrounding the pain I'm trying to deal with the only way I know how.
However, there is something that happens during detox often that causes major stretching and yawning, and I used to get really bad charley horses while I stretched. I was put on magnesium supplements for that anytime I had to detox off of opiates from that point forward.
However, I am now finding that I don't even need to be detoxing to go through these bouts of painful stretching, teary eyes, and the inability to catch my breath from stretching so hard. It started happening when I used, AND now I'm totally clean n sober, and all day I have been in pain, had the uncontrollable stretching, breathlessness, and teary eyes
I'm going to try to take the magnesium supplements and hopefully that will help me even now recovery with what I'm going through. I used to be on the b supplements but I'm going to try that again.
Thank you so so much for your input, and this is a really great for him thank you ladies! (And possibly gents!)
Hi, what did the surgeon say? Do you still have the problem? I’ve had knee surgery with spinal anesthesia and a month later I started getting all these weird sensations in both legs and the need to stretch every night. I can’t sleep anymore😕
Take peanut butter and jelly and rub it on the lobe of each ear at night before bed. Next, pour Pete's hot sauce in a small cup of water and dip both thumbs into cup. Finally, rub eye sockets with thumbs,( one thumb to each eye). Massage gently until eyes begin to tear a bit. Then prince out eyes using a mixture of mouse and red squirrel urine, 50/50 mixture. ( Can usually be found at local health store, or some farm supply companies. This should help with the situation. It also cures tetnus and rabbies.
Hi there, I've had major spinal surgery about 11 months ago and was thinking these muscle spasms and stretching are due to this but I'm so confused. I've been having these horrible spasm attacks day and night and I have to keep stretching my whole body and it's so painful and really killing me. I just can't cope with it. When I'm not having these attacks I still have this horrible feeling in my fingers and toes continously where I need to stretch. What is this?? Is there anyone who actually understands this. At the moment I'm taking Baclofen. I feel this is not RLS.
Oh my god yeah this sounds a lot like what I feel. But I always see that there's pain with it? So I'm not sure what I'm actually feeling! Idk if its restless limb syndrome or what. Cause sometimes during either the day or night I just get that unbelievable feeling. I just get it all throughout my entire body and it won't stop until I move around, and it gets worse and builds in intensity the longer I try not to move. It doesn't hurt though, it's just SUCH a terrible, annoying, weird feeling that just builds up. I know this won't make sense (it just registers in my mind like this for some reason), but it feels like a, uh, metallic feeling? like if you lick or bite metal? That taste/feeling in your mouth. But that same feeling as if it's running through all my veins. ITS SO WEIRD, I know. And it seems to mainly happen at times when I have to/feel like I have to sit still. Like, when I'm sitting in class or if I'm in bed with someone else and we're going to sleep. It doesn't ALWAYS happen, but sometimes. I really want to know what it is. Because it makes it impossible to fall asleep, no matter how tired I am.
I have been trying to google this feeling for months now. I looked up whether I could be taking too much iron, I googled "I feel like tin" and other such things. I finally just got frustrated and googled "why do my muscles feel like metal" and it landed me on a fibromyalgia page, which is not something I was expecting.
Have you learned anything about this feeling? I just wanted to let you know that you are NOT the only one who sometimes feels metallic. I feel like metal as we speak. It feels exactly like when you accidentally bite something metal with a filling, but all over my body. Please let me know what you've found.
what you are describing is toxicity and no Gp or specialist is going to tell you that. Your body needs a serious overhaul and it cant be done with meds.
clean diet
clean water
if you have root canals get those teeth out of your mouth
if you have mercury, get the mercury out
the heavy metal feeling is hormonal and the hormones become unbalanced due to our boidies becoming to toxic from all the crap out there.
i good place to start is be researching yourself the truth about nutrition. I would suggest Patrick Holford and orthomolecular medicine. Believe me i have been there and at one stage was told i was dying and "they" didnt know why" I was 37 years old , 3 years ago now, since then, i changed everything about what i put into my body, on my body and researched the hell out of stuff until i became well again... 3 years later im almost fully back to normal.. trust yourself, you are your best physician
Hi Hun google RLS restless leg syndrome I have it and no just what your going threw it's horrible, hopefully you'll be able to get the right treatment for it if that is what it is and it's funny you say about a metallic feeling as people with RLS lack magnesium aswell check it out and see what you think good luck Hun
Could be Zinc also. Cold-Eez has it in it. Tastes awful. Try it and see if it taste the same. You might be zinc toxic. Any excessive metals in your body, like iron can be removed by a Chealating process. That pulls metals out of your body. Eat well, that makes a huge difference.
yes I have had it in my arms as well, and I believe this is all body RLS.
Curious if you were ever on depression medicine? I used to be on prozac and welbutrin years ago and started having symptoms as soon as i got on the meds. The symptoms never left once i stopped taking them. My theory is this problem came from a drug that altered the brains chemical balance some how.
Yes!! Oh my god all those symptoms like I'm crawling out of my own skin so weird!! Yes was on Prozac and Zoloft before it... But come to think of it I believe your thekry
I am on duloxetine/cymbalta. I personally think it is something to do with the meds changing brain chemistry as well.
Interesting.... I just started duloxetine/cymbalta and I'm getting this feeling alot.... maybe its a side effect?
I started Cymbalta about 4 yrs ago for depression, anxiety and pmdd. Then I started to get this weird feeling like I had to stretch my muscles in my legs. I stopped the Cymbalta after 2 yrs and the symptoms were that rare that I forgot I had them but just recently I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and the rheumatologist said the fibromyalgia is caused by the nerves in my spine most likely from the crush fractures and bulging discs. So he put me back on Cymbalta because it changes the way the receptors in your brain react to pain and therefore helps with pain. It has not helped for my pain but those dreaded feelings are back in my legs again. Now the weird thing I found is, if I orgasm from sex the feeling goes away and I can fall asleep. Endorphins ??? Maybe, as Cymbalta is a serotonin based medication so this whole hormone theory seems like the key. Very confusing and frustrating. So anyway I am going to wean off the Cymbalta now that I have found a pain relief that works without making me drowsy or give me a high feeling. Finally I am able to drive my car again.
Pls Helen, can u tell us all what the name of ur medication is called ????
I know this is an old post but sadly, the symptoms keep on a comin'! This is the first time that I've experienced a full body 'restless leg attack'. Can't stretch hard enough, constantly yawning and the whole bit.
@Joyce65 - the medication that I have been taking for years for my RLS is called pramipexole. I take that in conjunction with baclofen. It is about 85% effective! Hope this helps... even 6 years later
You explained how I feel at times it doesn't happen all the time for me and it's not a need to stretch for me it's this feeling of needing to be constantly moving. Like I have RLS but in my whole body. Does anyone else have that feeling it keeps me from sleeping. Last night after taking my regular mess I was still feeling this way, it took me two 7.5 hydrocodone, three melatonin, a methacarbamol, and My husband massaging my back for me to be able to fall asleep. That was on top of me sitting in a chair kicking my legs, and pacing the house for hours. It's driving me crazy, and I really want to sleep.
thank god i'm not going mad then,i thought i was totally on my own, when im trying to lay in my bed at night i get this thing where i have to stretch my body, my legs arms backwards (like the total opposite to fetal position) and hold that position for a few minutes/relax then do it again,i have to do it or it feels like my body is being taken,it's such a horrible feeling wish it would stop!! x
haven't had that ...yet!
I get strange feelings when I am tired, almost as tho all the nerve endings in my body are irritable all at the same time. When I feel like this then I know its time to lie down and try and sleep x
Hi there,
I have this all day but at bed i actually cry with the pain in my legs.
I have to stretch and move every limb and joint in my body, its not nice and my bones carck and creek so not sure if i should do it lol.
kel xxx
Omg thats exactly how I am I’m in agony I’ve been put on every med n not one has taken the pain away shut up pills! So I take nothing but I click n creak I sound like a skeleton in a tin can I’m so down with it fibro has taken over my life I’m constantly in pain I’ve forgotten how it feels pain free !

:-)p :- d sorry trying to do smileys
Hi Christine, have you tried pramipexol,I have all over restless legs, and sometimes would jerks so severly it bent be backwards and I would actualy scream as would get stuck like that till it eased, then would do it again.
And when you have curvature of the spine it wasn`t funny, hate to say it but got quite suicidal over it.
Hugs jayne
Thankyou all very much i appreciate all your replies. i do infact get some relief from Amitriptyline medication which i take for the nerve pain, i'm pleased i am not alone but sorry you all feel this way as well, i will mention it to my gp soon thanks very much, love heavenly x
OMG YES!!! That's ther most awful feeling EVER!! Scared me to death first time it happened, but it happened with other symptoms which led me into hospital (again) I still didn't get an answers as to what or why.
Its torture!! my god I hated that feeling and I could never explain it to anyone, its so hard to describe what its like, I had this every single night for years it brought me to tears many nights, when I was so exhausted but couldn't sleep because of this weird feeling of wanting to stretch constantly.
The day It stopped was the day I started on Amitriptyline and I've never had it since
Thankyou for your input and yes it is torture , i agree Amitriptyline does help, most times, i'm so sorry you are all feeling this way, but it is nice to get it out in the open, i cant explain to my family so its a relief to get it off my chest, its bad enough having so much pain and discomfort with out all the weird feelings as well, xxx
thanks hun,i don't know much about acupuncture but it's something i don't think i could possibly afford x
i know how you feel heavenly, family only think they understand, they suggest this and that but they don't realise we are stuck with this and nothing helps....hugs bettybutterfly xx
This brought back some memories, bad ones. Like some I am on Nortriptelyne and only rarely have to stretch now. I dread them as my muscles are much weaker these days. Our list goes on....
Again thanks all for your replies. It is strangely comforting knowing i am not the only one with weird symptoms, although i wish for your sakes i was. My husband and I have booked a 2 week holiday to Rhodes island (Greece) for may i am praying i will cope with the flight which i think is about 31/2 to 4 hours, well i have not option but to cope but i am sure you understand what i mean, i dont want to spend the few days after in agony and needing to rest, of course our pain never really goes away but thankfully i do get some days i can go out and shop or stroll in nature be it a few yards before i need to sit, Another thing which i am dreading is having to use my walking stick/cane, previously i have managed when i have gone abroad without, but now i cant i need it all the time whilst out and about, oh well note to self get used to it and get over it, love to you all and ((gentle hugs))
YES! I used to think it was just me, but it feels like I want to shiver. It is the worst feeling in the world, can take the pain more than I can take that feeling!
I too used to think it was just me and as mentioned in another answer its like i have to stretch my limbs backward and down, only if too far my legs spasm. Only thing i cant move is my left shoulder as although had op to remove some bone still in too much pain to lift more than 45 degrees in any direction. But glad not jst me. Im definately gonna keep symptom diary as have different ones each day on top of normal ones.
I have that feeling every night so dont worry...its like your body is telling you to relax..the..trouble is when restless leg starts and I end up having a sleepless night..! The next day I feel dreadful...and tired all the time as well as aching all over...
I believe what some of you are experience is an increased sensitivity/awareness/conciousness...even focus might be a good word too.
These sorts of sensations started for me during an intensive meditation course. Was scary initially, but now I find it a very positive thing. It has really helped improve my posture, helped with getting to sleep even. It's not just a night time thing for me either, I can let myself become aware of these sensations at anytime. It's about focus. I can use it mentally as well as physically, I can really just focus on what I am doing throughout the day.
But! I as I said I realise it may be scary. It was for me to begin with.
Perhaps it might help some of you if you can try seeing it as a positive. Your own bodies know what is good for them...this might be a first step so to speak, towards becoming more in tune with yourself.
Just on the sleep thing, I found the best way if thesensations are bothering me ever is to really just focus on one small part of my body, such as my nose..or the top of my head. Or Just try focusing all your attention on your breathing. Everytime your mind starts to wander try and catch. Then return to focusing again.
Good luck!
Donn
p.s also..just be aware that you don't HAVE to react to these sensations/urges...try to remain equanimous
Im sorry to sound harsh, but unless you suffer from RLS you cant fathom the uncontrollable painful urge to stretch .. mine started in my legs.. now my arms are solely suffering from this relentless annoying discomfort.. i have been on ambien for 5 years to stay asleep through the night and avoid the pain and urge to stretch or move.. never imagined this awful feeling could begin in my arms too.
What caught my eye And made me sign up here, to reply to you ..was your mentioning of controlling the flare up with our mind... for years i was convinced that as long as i Didnt think about it during day or Talk about it, then it wouldnt happen that night.. because i don't suffer from this nightly i Believed my theory for years.. i'am excited to ask my doctor for Amitriptyline as read above to have major relief.. id love to know if any special doctor is best to see... as i have yet to find A single doctor who takes RLS seriously and doesn't just push prescription pain killers on me... anybody really suffering from RLS knows that pain meds do not help.. truly wish doctors would swallow their pride sometimes and admit when they just dont know ...misdiagnosing is a SNOWBALL effect.. i strongly recommend NOT mentioning previous recommendations of diagnosis to future doctors... Let them diagnosis u... once you place a possible reason in their mind (if they don't no) then instead of saying their just unsure....they will 9X outta 10 they will jump on board.. leaving you right where u started.. God bless +
Hello yes I do! Got it now it drives me round the bend thought I was going mad! Do you know what it is yet? I've got osteoarthritis and also take amitrypyline too x
Yes me! It's driving me up the wall! Especially with osteoarthritis it's also very painful I mainly get it at night it stops me from sleeping but for the last couple of days I've had it during the day too I've got it right now while writing this I just can't stop stretching will have to go to doc it's driving me crazy it's good to know other people get it I thought I was losing my marbles but I know exactly what you mean let me know if there's a cure please x
yes this happens to me as well. You are not alone. Sometimes I cant get to sleep because of it.
Hi, yes I'm having those feelings now,my body felt tense before I went to bed & I knew I'd have a disturbed night.
I'm wondering if eating late and having a couple of alcoholic drinks has anything to do with it?
I can't get comfortable in bed, I feel like I need to be stretched from head to toe!!
I am going through the same thing. If I sleep on my sides I am fine but it happens when I sleep on my back. When I am half awake and concentrate I can quickly roll off my bed and wake up to prevent it from occurring. I go into to this stretch mode with my chest, sometimes arching my back and I am hurting all my organs because I am so sore in the morning. I have no control over this. It's a urge that starts and most times I can't stop it. I had a sleep study and waiting to see if it is seizure related.
I am so excited that I found this. I have been searching for the answer to my 'fits' for ages. I'm trying to relax to go to sleep and my muscles will almost burn with tension. Like I need to stretch but the sensation can get so bad that I feel like I need to punch something. I have a routine of stretches I do now that helps. It's worse if I'm over-tired and on my back but otherwise, I can't find a pattern. Do we know what is yet? I have M.E. and used to be on Amitryptyline a few years ago, residual side effect?
Yes I'm going through that now. Sometimes if it hasn't happened and I wake up, I have to concentrate to get out of bed so this "episode" (uncontrollable urge to stretch) doesn't happen and I pull my side-again. Had a sleep study and nothing. Heading to a gastrologist and a neurologist.
Wow! I didn't think I would ever find anyone else who experiences this horrible feeling! It doesn't happen to me often but when it does, it's in the middle of the night & I always wake up with it thinking I'm dreaming! Then unfortunately I'm not! I take Xanax, Ambien & Gabapentin for Fibromyalgia to sleep every night so when this happens, I get up and take another Xanax & it works. Also I work out for over an hour almost every day. Maybe this helps. When it happened to me 2 nights ago, I had not been able to do my usual workout for about 5 days due to traveling. I would like to see an official medical name for this.
In further research, I may have just found an interesting link to this condition. I read that some researchers think antihistamines may be related. I was just prescribed an RX antihistamine last week for allergies! I seldom use them so
can't remember if I was using one at the times I experienced these episodes before. The one I'm using now is Fluticasone Propionate 50 MCG once a day. Anyone else that can relate to this?
I wonder...because last night I took some Mucinex & I'm already on Effexor XR, Wellbutrin. I also took some ibuprophen and vicodin earlier in the day--I'm suffering from sinus issues and a broken tooth right now. so this is just adding to making me feel like absolute crap. i'm miserable
Hi, I take an anti histamine every night for the last year, and occasionally was suffering from this dreadful urge to stretch, yawn, twitch and have spasms. Since a week ago it just hasn't gone away, I can't sleep and i'm so uncomfortable and its making me go mad. Ive just recently had major spinal surgery and I am suffering from that as well as the operation was not a success. Could you please advise me what I should do. Thank you
Can I ask anyone, how long does it last??? My first experience was last night..and it has continued for hours now, into the day. I am going on about 14 hours with this pain. Does it go away at some point? Other than medication, have you found anything that helps you?
I'm currently on Effexor XR (been on Effexor for 18 years) & Wellbutrin (been on for a year)..not sure if that information helps at all. Thank you for any help you can provide. I just want this to stop.
Not sure what I have but that urge to stretch is been my companion since 2006. I've lost my pregnancy to that stretching, broken my c spine multiple times and now it's affecting all the nerves controlled by the c spine. Doctor still doesn't know what it is. I need help very badly before I lose function of my 4 limbs and my brain. After I stretch at night, I woke up confused in the morning, can't even do my routine things in order. From A student, I find myself barely passing classes I don't know for how long before I start failing. I'm looking to see a neurologist and couldn't get an appointment before October. I hope I can get some help before then, I really need it. See, I feel the urge to stretch like most of you but I am feeling much more than that. Thank you for your time!
I'm so glad I'm not alone. I used to get this .. mainly on long trips. I just thought that I was just cooped up too long. But last night this actually woke me up .. TWICE. It has never done that. I'm not on any prescribed antihistamine, but do take a generic Benadryl at night. I also have nerve pain in my knees .. due to an injury I had 8 years ago. And I take Mobic to help with joint pain and failed to take that yesterday, so thought that might be a reason for the attack last night. So this Amitryptyline is the thing to take?
I feel the same. My finger need to be crack several times a day. And my legs are the worst, I need to really extend my leg to stretch it out, I don't know what's wrong with me, Sometime I need to have a deep massage on my thigh.
I got it every joint on my body, every time when I fully extend my leg and my arm, it makes a cracking sound like my bone was about to break- the similar sound as when you crack your knuckle??? If you know what I mean. Basically I need to crack my entire body .
I know exactly what u mean and i have been experiencing that and unfortunately no one can tell me what this might be.. I hate that feeling tho
yes, its like i had to tighten then release all the muscles in my body at the same time, it was really bizarre, sort of like Restless Legs all over, a deep agitation, I know that I had mixed some pills I had never mixed before. I took 1 mg Ativan, a combination of melatonin and Valerian and benadry, I believe the culprit was the benadrly, ativan mix, since it has given me RLS in the past, but I thought the ativan would calm down any rls i would get from the bendadrl boy was I wrong.
Wow, I've has this since I was around 6. 26 now and still have this, every night every day but ONLY when I think about it, happens more when I get into bed and my mind is not very active (end up thinking about it more)
I'm very athletic and quite fit and now because of this stupid condition I can stretch almost every single muscle in my body (I really mean almost every muscle in my body) best way to relieve it is to be able to tense the muscle that's affecting you. And the only way to get rid of it is to occupy yourself with something else or to just try VERRRRY hard not to think about it. Or keep stretching and tensing till u fall asleep:/
Spoke to my doc about it and I felt embarrassed as he said he's never heard any condition like it. But I tell u it's damn irritating.
The worst for me is now my ankles, I have to tense and stretch the muscles there that now when I do it sort of displaced the tendons on the side of the ankle and replaced them again, can be painful of it gets stuck in the displaced area.
No solution or name for this condition yet?
I refer this to.......
Restless Legs syndrome
Or were ever it is I replace it with the word legs, in ur case
Restless BODY syndrome
I use the word so much even the doctor knows what I am talking about now, makes u feel like this😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖😖
My poor dog he's smaller than my cat arrrr
He used to sleep on the bed with me, but coz of the RLS I kick and hit out all the time, now he sleeps with my son lol, more room in bed for me, shame I can't sleep😩😩😩😩
lol, can relate to that one also. l can get hand spasm daytime, but at night its often restless legs, and foot spasm, does feel jumpy like a nerve pain, sometimes accompanied with nagging pain in hips and ankles. But now often feel the need to stretch out my leg-s, in and out of the bed, up the wall, weird, my little dog who sleeps on my bed, doesnt know whether he,s coming or going, abandons ship for sofa, but still sleep disturbed, oh to have a settled pleasant 6-8hrs.
I just got the same thing today. OMG it came out of nowhere and woke me up at 2am. I've been up since. The feeling can only be described like I'm stretching and hyper extending my ligaments. It's like that all over the body. My back thigh (worst), shoulders, neck, and back. It hurts more when I sit or lay. I'm 31 and has no health issues. This is the first time I get this and it is scary. Can anyone recommend treatments?
Br u taking anatriptline if so that's what's making u feel like that
Hey, I'm only 13 and this happens to me. This has been happening for years and I have never known what it could be or what caused it. This has been keeping me up all night for years and I wish there was at least a way to distract it. I am just now saying something to my mom, I hope she would bring me to the doctor. I don't know how ai would explain it to the doctor. Mine happens throughout the day and night. I thought I was the only one.
Omg I have been suffering this for about a year now and didn't want to say to my doctor cause a thought it sounded silly and a was going mad. This has brought me to tears many of nights and in the last week the sensation has intensified.
Everyone here is saying the same thing, even i am having that feeling and i was not able to convince others about this not even to doctors.I am only 23 and i think this feeling is to those people who had some spinal problem(after reading the above comments) and i also have some problem, actually my spinal cord is not straight, its tilted to some degrees but its not causing any pain , just i am having that strange feeling of stretching my legs( nowadays) that too in such a direction that if i see myself doing this i myself gets shocked that what i am doing, but i have to do because after doing that until i get that crackling sound ,it doesnt feel good n relax. Before this i had this feeling in my back ,hands, but now from there it got vanished and now its more common in my legs n neck n night time its more.
Can anyone please know what it is or is it curable or dangerous? is it beacuse of the spinal problem..please comment any one?
Everyone here is describing the very similar symptoms I have. I, too, feel as though I'm going mad. It's all in my back, specifically one side. I've never brought it up to a doctor because I, too, think he's going to think I'm crazy. It is a creeping, crawling feeling. Last year, I had a throat scope procedure with sedation. Just before they took me in, I started getting that weird spasm feeling. I figured I would be fine, because I would be semi-knocked out. Wrong. They were unable to perform the test because even under sedation, I was twisting and thrashing around because of the spasms. Is this what everyone else is talking about? I have even had to get up and walk for hours around the house in the middle of the night, just so it goes away. But as soon as I lay down or sit down, it starts right back up again. I end up in tears, exhausted (sometimes punching the mattress!). If this is what everyone else is talking about, I'm so glad that I found this forum. I feel like I'm not as crazy as I thought. I'd love to hear others input. Thank you so, so much!
I have this to but I get it in my hips are right under then. Its horrible and annoying to deal with. I get it every night I usaly dont fall asleep till like 12 when I go to bed at 9-10. But my parents don't care. 😞 I'm only 13 why is this happening to me!
Omg I have this at night thought I was going mad. But reading that so many have it its like I'm not mad. I don't understand why it happens but looks like most of us have it.
Take care all xx

Hello all
I have been experiencing this issue on and off. I started my meds Duloxetine/Cymbalta a year ago for fibro. Firstly it was not so bad but when the dose got increased it started pretty bad. Currently having this spasms at night mostly. I cannot sleep and wake up a lot at night due to this uncomfortable feeling. For me stretching does not do much. It is very hard to describe it but for me it feels like my muscles being stretched and like they are too light and never get a rest. During the day I just feel heavy like a lead in all my limbs. Not sure if I still want to be on medication anymore so will be seeing doctor soon.

This sounds like torture. I have been researching this and other "unexplainable" conditions on behalf of a friend who also can't seem to keep still. The truth is that doctors give things names but they really don't know what the cause is or how to cure it. (My friend is actually a western trained MD.) I'm wondering how many people believe there is a cure and would be willing to do whatever it takes to find a cure. Namely, having an open mind. This can be challenging because the same mindsets and attitudes that cause our condition can also create barriers that prevent us from finding a cure. We are totally imprisoned. There is a way out. Without drugs. Without invasive proceedures. Otherwise, it's chronic in many cases. People may never be cured. If interested, I'll tell you more by email. If there is a way to privately send me your email, then do so and I'll point you to the answer. You'll need to learn a few things that doctors don't study, understand or practice yet the results speak for themselves.
Tiarramc@gmail.com I would love it I'm literally going crazy!!
just curious why can't you put the info on here...why the need for an email address?
I am interested in learning more about this condition. Could you email me at marycaete@hotmail.com?, subject line Stretching Fibro? Thank yo uso much.
I am not sure but think mine is related to electrolyte imbalance--Gatorade seems to help.

Can't Believe I found this.....I've had this weird feeling for a while. Wake up 3-4 times a night feeling like I have to stretch and it feels very strange. Arms & legs. Also when I get up in the morning it hurts to walk on my feet...
It is a relief to hear I am not alone in this. No one I've told seems to know what I'm talking about. I'm sure that's because I can't exactly explain the feeling. It started just in my hands and wrists years ago. Now when it happens, it seems to be all my joints. The best explanation of the feeling is like the sound of a really high pitched tone or fingernails on a chalkboard being translated into a physical feeling. Except it's constant and completely impossible to ignore. Sometimes when it keeps me awake, I feel like it could literally drive me crazy. Like other posters, I have hurt myself trying to stretch the feeling away.
I too experience what I refer to as Restless Body Syndrome. I'm lying in bed and suddenly I have just jerk my body around. Kick my legs fast and hard, shake myself. Often I just have to get up and hope it goes away. I'll do push-ups, run in place, etc. It feels like my body can't contain something and I have to work it out. I also experience something similar while working at my desk. This tends to happen more when I'm tired, but I'll get this strange sensation and have to get up and move around. Oh, and I'm always hot. I have a fan under my desk that is constantly running. Not sure they're related but...
It's restless leg syndrome buy the sounds of it I've been dealing with it for 5 years without knowing what it is ive only just recently found out, look it up or speak to your doctor about it I hope you get it sorted out ☺️
I'm a heavy marijuana smoker, but quit a week ago.. do you think it can have something to do with that?
Ok this might sound weird but i hate that feeling its like its bitter sweet ..tHAT STRETCHING FEELING SUPPOSED TO FEEL GOOS AND USUALLY DO FEEL GOOD . BUT LATELTY I BEEN DOING THAT STRETCH THING ALL DAY LONG AND ITS IRRATATING .. I AM ALSO A HEAVY LOUD SMOKER AND I WANT TO KNOW IF THATS THE REASON WHY I KEEP DOING THIS
At first it started off feeling good, you know stretching like in the morning or when i get tired . but now its a bit irratating and its driving me crazy i stretch so much through out the day its making me think something is wrong now cause the stretching feeling last too long and I do it all the time. Its to the point its not feeling good it actully getting on my nerve i believe my body for like a good 15 sec stiffins up while im stretching and its getting on my nerve.
Hi also came up here doing random search and for the first I realized that I was not alone.
I have this issue too for a longtime but I never consulted with doctor on this as is it pretty hard to explain.
However, I have a friend who is a Doctor and advised me to take 5 shots of "vitamin B12" injection alternative days. It means 5 injections in 10 days. after taking second injection I was perfectly fine and completed the course. So basically for me It did work and I get that feeling again after few month then I again go for it and it always work.
Excess of b12 is not harmful as it will flash out itself with urine. Still I would suggest consult with your doctor before trying and I hope this would help.
Thanks,

I feel this way as well but I have MS, not fibromyalgia. Glad to see I'm not going crazy with these crazy feelings as there are others.
Hey guys. I just read everyone's comments and I've been reading on the other forums as well. firstly it's taken 3 of the most uncomfortable and downright "driving-me-insane" 3 no this of this " whole body restless syndrome " experience to finally get me to googling it, because i thought i was being stupid, because it's not pain right? well.. still haven't found a name or cure.knowing others like you are out there is both heartening and saddening.
Doctors can be...hard to put it in one word isn't it? well let's just say they don't always get the Job you need them to get done.
Every day... nearly every minute, unless I distract myself deeply.. It's inside me, deeper than any massage can reach, deeper than the pain meds, I can still feel it ticking, itching, scratching, crawling deep deep inside me.
I would give $5,000 to have this disappear tomorrow and I know I'm not the only one..
But it isn't that simple is it? yelling screaming or trying to ignore it achieves absolutely nothing, zero, nadda.
Will keep searching. Will eventually cure it, make it more bearable or just choose insanity's room inside my mind to get away from it
I sure Hope this reply pops up somewhere because this is the first time I’ve ever heard of anybody having the same thing. Any new news?
I get the feeling like my tendons in my hands and legs have become very tight and I need to stretch to stop the tightness.get rls occasionally as well
Yes I get it. My whole body kind of screws up and tries to strech but it can never strech enough. I've always explained it as I need to pull my joints out of socket. I mainly get it in my wrists and ankles. It just reminds me of that cringy feeling you get from cotton wool just more intense and uncontrollable.
Only thing that seems to help is hot water. Not heat it has to be soaking in hot water. Has anyone else found anything to help?
Broke a knee joint recently , don't normally take any meds , only thing I've taken is hydrocodone or tylenol, I wake up in morning and move first thing I go into a full body stretch it's so weird cause I can't stop it it's involuntary , I stopped taking the hydro almost immediately after 8 doses which was less then a week - week n a half , because it had an odd effect on me , even after 8 doses I felt like I had some kind of withdraw from it , I would be laying in bed just about to fall asleep and violently jerk awake, never took it again after that , but am left with this crazy stretching thing upon waking after I get up it's gone during the day but happens only in the morning after sleeping
Yeah I get that a lot . It's horrid when you need to turn over during the night and your body thinks oh lets stretch and your like no I want to stay a sleep ..... if you find a cure tell me xx
Hello! I have made an account just to inform the hundreds of you suffering, that I have a solution for this.
Let me start by saying that I get this horrible feeling a lot too and it gets EXTREME when I'm sleepy or when I'm in one position for a long time (sitting in class for example).
To describe it, I would say my muscles (arm, back, thighs, calves, neck) start getting 'weak' and sort of ticklish and tingly...as if they are turning into stiff jelly. My nerves feel weird too. Even my head feels weird. And I get the yearning to stretch this feeling out, but that only gives temporary relief.
In any case, I have figured out that getting a nice, hard massage. You will get rid of that feeling for a number of days, after which you might need to get it again.
If you can't afford a proper spa massage, just get someone in your family to give you a massage.
I don't know the word for this in English, but in culture we say "kamar DABA do", as in "massage my back" but DABA doesn't exactly translate to 'massage'.
To DABA means lightly punching, hitting, applying full body pressure on the spot thats sore....and that really works. I hope I make sense, but yeah, get someone to DABA you.
Hope it helps <3
It is nice to see so many "Me too", but no one has any answers. I have been struggling with this for about six years and here are some of the things that have helped. #1 Give up alcohol and smoking if you do those things. If after drinking you feel worse, it is a good sign that you are getting dehydrated and it is part of the cause. So drink lots of fluids. I personally wake up in the morning and drink 16 ounces of water with a teaspoon of Organic Sulfur Crystals, 99% Pure MSM Crystals and a packet of powder vitamin C. I do it again at night before I go to bed. I also try to stay hydrated during the day with good pure water or healthy juice. Stay away from sugar and most of the artificial sweeteners. I use Stevia. I also walk 5 miles per day and 30-60 minutes of non-stop activity. Doing this has helped a bunch, but I still get episodes especially when I am stressed or anxious. Have tried the meditation thing, but it is not easy to do. So, I try to stay busy and tell myself to stop contemplating and it eventually calms down, again not easy to do. I am almost sure it is that tension that gives me the muscle feelings. I wish I had better suggestions or a magical cure. Taking St. John's Wort, Ashwagandha or Holy Basil may help with stress and anxiety. Some of you may also be low on magnesium and it never hurts to take some Ginger and Turmeric. These are my suggestions, recommendations, and experience... I do hope it helps one or all of you.
Yes weird little stretches all over my body that then going into spasms, very scary. I also get that when I have flu. I'm not sure whether to go Dr's or not?
I know this is a very late reply, but info is so scarce sometimes
Dear heavenly, I have that very same feeling except it happens in the morning after I wake up. That’s why I was on Google this morning looking it up, it’s an uncontrollable urge/need to stretch. Also yawning along with it sometimes, I wonder if it has anything to do with oxygen levels in the body? This is a fairly new symptom, Everyone stretches but this is something different, it’s uncontrollable.
Has anybody had a diagnosis or a true fix for this yet? This is an old post and it seems like someone would have a definitive answer by now.
It is almost 3 AM and once again I can't sleep because of the same feelings everyone is describing. I have dealt with this for years and have never been able to truly describe what I am feeling to anyone for them to understand what the heck I am talking about.
These sensations in my muscles are driving me crazy! It is even happening during the day occasionally now.
It has to be a deficiency of some type of mineral. Sometimes I can drink baking soda water and it helps but that is even waning now.
I am to the point where I am full body hard stretching several times a day.
I hope someone has a true answer.
Thanks!!
I just realize that you put this in eight years ago ha ha Ha but I signed up to tell you I absolutely feel the need to stretch so many times during the day and at night. And when I do edibles to relax sometimes it is increased tenfold. I even started to stretch while talking to people now
I hope you check this thread again! I have fibromyalgia really bad and my body just does a stiffening stretch on its own! I sooo get what you are saying! Maybe it releases some feel-good endorphins, which we desperately need! Pain all the time is terrible!
Heavenly- I have experienced the same feeling. Truly need some opinions and anything that might of helped anyone with similar problems even a little bit.
I used to think stretching was the answer too but it's not. What happens when you stretch is the muscle gets tighter like a knot in a big rope, the more you pull thr tighter the knot. It wasn't until I got a yoga roller that I felt relief. The roller is more like a meat tenderizer for your muscles and will loosen those knots which ease other tensions that cause this type of twitching or restlessness. I also took lots of calcium and magnesium but you generally won't feel benefits from that right away.
I have this sensation. It is truly annoying. It only occurs at night. It started when Lamictal was added to my Bipolar meds. I had it very badly when withdrawing from Hydrocodone. I wonder if it is somehow drug related? Interesting...❤️
I thought I was the only one who felt that way, its so irritating.
Shhhh…you’ll wake your cell mate!!
