Is anyone on Sertraline for Fibro and if so is it helping? What dosage and how often do you take it?

hi there, i take 100mg of sertraline for my fibro and it helps better than citalopram that i was on. I take it every morning but dr is thinking of upping the dose to 150mg and to take it at night. Not to sure about that though. Are you on Sertraline?

Hi there!

I am on sertraline 50mg/day in the morn.

it is part of the anti depressant family which is why i originally started taking it. i continue taking it now - to help keep me calm, if im calm then my muscles are less stressed. i am so used to it that i only really notice it if i forget to take it. by the next day i have severe shakes which i am 'blessed' with following severe PTSD. so yes it helps for me. it keeps many things under control for me. i did however try many different combinations etc. before being happier with setraline.

xx

Thanks for your replies. I have not yet started on Sertraline but have it to start now and was only going to take it if there was some feedback on it. I might just try it coz am willing to try almost anything at the moment. Thank you

Hi yes im on sertraline and have been on it a few years, not sure it helps with pain etc but it seems to help with depression, i take other things for the fibro including oxycontin and oxnorm also amitryptilene which is also an antidepressant but it helps me sleep a bit better.

Remember when you start it that it can take up to 4 weeks to have any effect, also it might make you feel a bit odd at first but with me the symptoms went away after a few weeks, good luck x

Thanks 66Amanda66. That is good to know. I am not depressed but the doctor said it would help with the pain because I am depressed and that is causing the pain! Rather frustrating.

Duloxetine is a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). Sertaline is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) Both are used to treat types of depression, anxiety and FMS and either can be a useful tool in your kit.

Hi, thank you. The sertraline to be helping me with energy at least and the pain is a bit duller. I had a dreadful weekend of pain so it is a good day today. I hope you have good days this week! x

Serotonin Uptakes can change your perception of pain, Yes.

I was started on Sertraline for fibro. I never had a weight problem until I took Gabapentin and Sertraline. The pain went with Gabapentin but I put weight on so rapidly I'd rather have pain than be so overweight. The Sertraline isn't working anymore for pain and I want to stop taking it. I take 100mg. It is tricky to wean off it and it causes weight gain too, among other side effects!! If I could get an appointment with a GP I would start weaning off it. Don't go there unless you feel you have no other choice!
