is Fibro really classed as degenerative?

can it ever get better and does it always get worse?

It is not classed as degenerative and also not classed as progressive.

Some people have remissions during pregnancy or other times but it is not curable. Some have found better management through exercise.

Hello there.. 😊 👋. If you do a wee bit research you will find information that states that fibromyalgia not generally considered a progressive disorder, but in some cases, it does get worse over time. IMO it's an evolving disorder, that is definitely exacerbated by my wonky stress response. There is definitely a change in symptoms for me from when I was diagnosed to the current day. I do think perimenopause is a contributing factor in that for me though. Embrace the good days and find a tool kit of things that help on the bad days. I try to not let it define me... harder said than done on the really bad days, but you just keep on trucking 😉. Take care 🙂

Hi, l was diagnosed finally 2 years ago after a struggle of at least 8 years. I was so interested to read your reply about perimenopause changing your symptoms. I have very recently started having serious migraine attacks, something l have never suffered with before. My initial thought was that my medication was the cause but my doctor is of the opinion it is perimenopausal. ?? I have also started getting sharp pains in my elbows , which again is a new symptom but apparently is just another one on the long list of fibro symptoms. By your reply it seems my gp ( who is really great ) could be right. Thanks

Yeah, perimenopause has changed things up for me a big deal. My cycle started to change then so did my moods. I've always had migraines but now my headaches are different. My pains are different, and so on and on. If you look up the symptoms of perimenopause you will find alot of your symptoms might be on that list. So it might not all be fibromyalgia but a tangled weave of perimenopause and fibromyalgia. Then you have to figure out how to deal with the hormone changes, I'm still trying to figure that out 🤔😊.

Thank you for your reply but l was a little confused after l researched it all. Perimenopause is something l went through at least 20 years ago , l am 60 years old this year. The menopause has been & gone so I'm now even more confused with the sudden migraine ??

Hi there, may I ask have you spoke to your GP about your migraine? If not I would politely suggest you do xx

Hi, yes l have and he is of the opinion that it could be perimenopause, which is something that happened to me 20+ years ago 🤣 and full menopause 10+ years ago . I am currently having CBT / pain management therapy with a really great guy so l might see what his take is on it. Keep well 😊

Oh now I'm confused lol. I'm in perimenopause thats why I know there a change/connection. Why is your doctor suggesting perimenopause when you've already been through that journey? 🤔. May be another trip to the GP is in order to have another chat about how your symptoms have changed. I hope you find some answers. Have a nice day and take care 🙂
