hi, usually, this occurs with brain fog, you can get slurred speech, confused with what you want to say, but if you are worried it may be something else, have a check with your doctor.
I am more familiar with speech issues being part of neurologic diseases but possibly due to medications making you groggy or some part of brain fog? I would go with the others though and say check with your GP or specialists just to make sure nothing else is going on.
hi, yes I have speech issues, sometimes mumbling or speaking slower but I also have issues caused when taking pregabelin and gabapentin, they both give me a stutter. Had to stop taking them.
Can I ask when did this speech slurring happen? I have the same thing and people laugh at me but sometimes I find it hard to get words out, I do think that the brain fog and everything doesn't help. I really feel for you, it happens to me daily ❤️
Don’t know when it started but my partner is often telling me to speak clearly, repeat something or that he can’t hear me as I’m mumbling.
Says it sounds like I’ve got a mouthful of cotton wool!!
I know he has a hearing impairment which doesn’t help, and I’m often making allowances for that
TBF it’s really starting to get me down. I feel like just keeping quiet all the time. Not good when I’m 3 weeks into a new job which is on the phones in a contact centre!!!
My partner tells me the same thing! I have always had the clearest speech, though I do speak too quickly for some people. I know it isn't me. He has also had his hearing tested (he's 83) and they say he's not deaf. Clearly, he has difficulty hearing my high pitched voice and I have had to learn to speak in a lower pitch. But as this doesn't happen all the time (and some people call it "selective hearing"), I think it's most likely to do with processing what I'm saying in his brain (he has high blood sugar and this can affect his brain/behaviour). Nobody else asks me to repeat what I'm saying - ever, and I actually don't have to raise my voice. So, I suspect it's not you; it's him.
I also have a problem Gulfstream_Maggie (apart from my replies being too long at times)😊
It started approx 6yrs back, Went to Doc's, she said it was all to do with Firomyalgia, The dreaded Brainfog, DUN DUN DAAAAAAAAA,
Doc asked Hubby to keep an eye on it!
When I'm tired I often struggle, The slurring makes me nervous as I've already had 2 mini strokes,
If I'm trying to explain something with passion, Cats at the moment 😍 We think it's because I want to get all the info out in 1 go, My brain catches up with my gob (eventually)
I say words which I have no idea of the words I need and then forget mid sentence what I wanted to say anyway,
Sometimes Hubby just laughs because I've called the tv a washing machine or mixed two words into one!
I try not to worry too much as that makes it worse, Speak with your Gp see what they say, Hope you get the answers you need to stop worrying
Yes, it does! I'm always being asked to repeat myself. My partner & family say I'm mumbling when I think I'm speaking clearly but I definitely notice it myself when I'm really tired and speaking becomes such an effort.
I also have neuropathy, my brother in law has it too and he has the same issues with his speech, foggy brain etc ... Long pauses while speaking, trying to capture words.
I have had this quite bad today as I'm tired and frustrated. Slurring and unable to find simple words. Hubby is getting impatient which only makes it worse!!!
I slur my speech & muddle it a lot especially when I get too exhausted. With me the fibro cause is my brain not being able to keep up with what I think I want to say but can’t find the words in time or can’t find them at all & the brain fog generally and also my jaw is a mess with temporo mandinular joint disorder caused by the Fibro muscle & tendon tightness. Same goes for my face being restricted by muscle & flesh tightness caused by the Fibro sensitised central nervous system. I hope my info is of use to you but if in doubt definitely get him checked out if only for peace of mind.
