Spasming muscles in shoulders

I have had extremely tense muscles in my neck and shoulders for a year now. Most of the time it doesn't bother me too much as I often lose partial sensation in that area and can't feel it. Despite this I do try to do some stretches for my neck and shoulders once a day.

However, a few days ago I regained full sensation in my neck. At first, the pain was excruciating in my cervical spine where I have multiple bulging discs. After two days of stretching my neck more than usual and massaging it, that pain has gotten better. However, I am now in terrible pain in my shoulders. Two nights ago, my left shoulder began to spasm in the night. Now my right shoulder is also spasming. I can feel my shoulder muscles twinging even as I write this. I don't know what to do. Massaging the muscles helps, but the relief only lasts for about 20 minutes before the muscles start spasming again.

Does anyone have any advice?

My cure would always be exercise for spasming muscles. Can you swim? Could for shoulders and can be a vigorous or gentle form of exercise depending on what you want?

I have always used a wheat bag. You put them in the microwave and put on the back of your necu. The warmth relaxes the muscles xx

I can swim. But, I just came down with strep throat now as well, so I can't go swimming at the moment. I might try it when the strep is gone.

Yes I have a pulled hamstring and have damaged a tendon in my hand at the moment. I normally do a lot of exercise, my hamstring keeps spasming, I'm assuming this is because it's used to doing more. I know nothing of these things but it strikes me spasming is a good way to get blood flow across a muscle, maybe its just trying to look after itself!

hey there. I have also have disc issues plus shoulder and neck pain often. Do you see anyone for the disc issue? I have monthly chiropractor appointments and he manipulated my neck by cracking ( don’t know the exact term lol), holding pressure points and massage. He always tell me to use ice, not heat to reduce inflammation. I know heat always feels nice but ice may be better. I would maybe get it checked out to know what would be best ice or heat and then go from there. Best of luck

thank you for this I’m really intrigued to see a chiropractor I’ve heard good things about it I was having acupuncture but I didn’t feel it was working for me, even after a few sessions I do have a permanent trapped nerve would chiropractor help this plus my fybro

from my experience yes. As well as fibro, I have a couple of extra discs that are half worn away and have a lot of problems with, including a couple of occasions when the nerves have been totally trapped and he’s been my life saver. Think I would rather miss meals than my appointment 🤣 he’s very aware of my fibro so treats me carefully. It’s not for everyone but I can’t see a chat being harmful in the first instance

I have spasms constantly, especially top right side if I move just that wee bit to far my full side goes so tight and it feels like you body is getting sucked up into a tiny ball it so horrible, but went to gp and I got METHOCARBAMOL for this I must admit I know when I’ve forgot to take them, they seem to help. I still get spasms but not as much I also have full spinal stenosis, narrowing of spinal cord, lower lumber is bad, cervical stenosis not good and thoracic have bulging discs and stenosis, this is the part that is causing spasms and also causing a lot of breathlessness as everything is pressing on diaphragm, also have a curve in my spine now, lots more issues but spasms was really bad for a while. I also get bad spasms in back and don’t know which way to move to get out of it, but as I said tablets do help
