Amitriptyline & Clonadine anyone?

Hi all

Hope you’re all having restful Christmas breaks 🎄

Is there anyone out there on both Amitriptyline and Clonadine, and if so - is drowsiness a big issue??

I take Amitripyline but not the other I have always taken mine about an hour and a half before bed so I do not get too sleepy before going to bed. Might be worth trying that way. Clonadine is also used for ADHD to calm the person down giving the same effect as drowsiness so I would think both together would be better placed before bedtime?

Thanks Offcut . I take Clonadine 3 times a day for PoTS related complications. It’s not commonly prescribed these days, neurology had to prescribe it to me initially… but I’m finding it effective for its intended purpose. Separately to that, for nerve pain I want to switch from Gabapentin back to Amitriptyline (Gabapentin has lost effect after 18 months of it working well) but not sure if the resulting drowsiness will be too much. Amitriptyline has worked well in the past but it definitely does have a trade off as you know! Might be possible if I space does them out like you say.

I’ll see what my GP is willing to trial ultimately but it’s always good to have some insider experience too…

Thank you 🙏🏻 I’ve heard that too! Complex meds for complex symptoms - but it’s us who are complicated apparently! 😆

hi I’m on amitriptyline for years 50mg but for pain.I’ve never heard of clonadine,the pain killer my dr put was very bad for the heart hospital dr told me to stop it.so I’ve got osteoarthritis and as.pain very bad I even brough cbd oil.

Hi  Jaynefox , yes the heart meds annd effects are definitely riskier alongside heavy pain meds and vice versa! I have EDS and early osteo as well as fibro … it’s not easy is it! Thanks for your reply and wishing you a happy new year.

Hello, I’m sorry you’re having a bad side effect from your medication. Unfortunately both these meds can cause dizziness are you new to taking it or been on it a while? If you find you really can’t tolerate it then you should speak to your GP there are alternative meds to try. Take care and Happy New Year

Hi CathyCD , thanks for your reply… I’ve not started this combination yet, I’m still exploring what might be workable. My GP is funny about mixing amitriptyline with anything else sedating as I tend to need a high dose (was on 90mg previously) so I will need to convince her I can cope with both if I’m to take them at the same time. Always worth putting it out to this community I find, to see if anyone has been in the same boat!

Amitriptyline helps me sleep but i wake up feeling groggy , unrested and look terrible.
