Yes I'm the same, and don't like being in a crowd either because of the noise.

OK thanks so it's not just me thinking it, it's just another fybro thing to get used to.

About 3 weeks ago I took a trip on the London Underground in the tube trains, the screeching of brakes had me covering my ears as it was painful, a train packed full of people I was the only one doing that 😫me personally very sensitive too certain noises since my diagnosis.

Yes - people with fibro often have hypersensitivity to things like sounds, light, smells etc

Yes I have also noticed smells seem stronger and light at night time

Absolutely.

I have this pretty severe.

It's called Hyperacusis. (noise sensitivity)

This came around the same time as the Photophobia came. (light sensitivity)

Which is also pretty severe.

I lived in the city, I was surrounded with thousands of seagulls living & breeding. It was hell, absolute torture.

Not just the noise from seagulls tho, traffic, people, kids, dogs barking, music, the clutter of a dish, everything, every noise hursts, even little noise hurts.

At the time of living in the city I had to wear earplugs every night and sometimes in the daytime.

It got so bad I started living in my walk-in bedroom cupboard which was in the centre of the house with really good doors.

I got suicidal and started researching best rope and how to tie a noose.

Looking on Ebay for rope. I had the perfect spot in my house to hang myself.

I was seeing Audiologist for around 2 years, who gave me in to trouble for wearing earplugs every night.

I asked to be surgically deafened but they wouldn't do it, which I felt unfair because they help people who can't hear but not much help for people that heard too much .

Unfortunately there was nothing they could, except give me a little machine that created white noise, I couldn't use it.

Thankfully 4 years ago I got a move to my lovely quiet little village 23 miles from the city.

I don't wear earplugs at night anymore, but I can't go out without earplugs & ear defenders, even in the village If I go to the shop on main road.

Thankfully I don't go out much.

That must've been hell on earth for you, thank goodness you didn't use the rope! 🤗 It is awful isn't it? Glad that you have moved to a village, village life altogether is far better than the city. I am sensitive to noise, light, and smells. If my husband has just used aftershave and he walks into the room where I am, I feel sick, and if I'm eating then I have to go into another room to carry on with my meal. We live in a small flat so there's no way of avoiding it altogether. And once he has had it on for a short while I'm no longer affected by it. The trials and tribulations of having fibromyalgia!🤔

Yeah its a crazy condition :'(

I jump from periods of wanting to die to being terrified I am dying, its mad.

The pain does makes me feel the same

Although I would like all the pain to go away I feel like if I could take one thing away it would be the Hyperacusis because then I could live anywhere.

I would ban him from wearing aftershave 🤗🥺

Yes, the hypersensitivity to sounds is really dreadful as you can't get away from it, there's always noise about, unless of course you live on a desert island! Even then the noise of the waves could be a problem. 😢

As for the Aftershave, it's only straight after he's put it on, it does mellow after a while. I suppose he could stay in the bedroom for 15 mins or so! 😀👍

Absolutely - especially when in a flare up.

There are many things that are over amplified for me every day - but the thing that feels like my brain is being pulled out through my ears via a bed of sharp nails is when anyone on the tv whistles! It’s excruciating! It actually makes my head wobble!

The gifts that fibro keeps giving us are definitely not wanted!

Hugs 🫂

I'm the same too. Much more sensitive hearing now. I also have tinnitus now too. When I go to bed, if I don't play something, I "hear voices. It's like a radio is playing. It drives me crazy because then I try to" hear " what's being said. I more always play my audio books and fall asleep. No more worrying about something or listening to something that doesn't exist.

Wonder why I have echo of voices? 🤔

Yes I suffer with this very much . Shops are becoming a nightmare with flashing lights , bells , buzzers and loud alarms constantly at the self service tills . I struggle to cope and have to leave. Certain birds are too loud , dogs barking etc it feels like a sharp knife going through me. I have tinnitus too which gets worse in noisy situations Police and ambulance sirens are particulary painful for me and I have to cover my ears.

I've been like this for many years, and no one ever told me I wasn't the only one. Not a word from any doctor.

I am trying to get to see the Dr today and find out if I can see someone who knows about fybro as I have to care for a man but it's getting harder and I don't get to do my things anymore

Hello Africanmonkey,

Mine started many many years ago,( Child hood) I wonder sometimes If I'd been taken to a doctor could I have been treated and therefore not been driven up the wall!!!!????

So I never get a break from the continuing high pitch noise in my head, Sometimes I get a break🥺🥺 Yeahhh!!!!

NO, It's just swapping over to the wooshing,😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨,and back to high pitch, I don't use a phone especially a mobile, I think that might have to do with mental health more than anything else😰😰

I have had to wear dark glasses for 🤔🤔 I was 12 even in the middle of winter,As soon as the sun comes out weak or strong or a glare, I had to borrow my brothers glasses from when he lived over seas,

Dark glasses were not so easy to buy in the late 70's and early 80's, Kids can be sooooo cruel💩💩💩💩 I live in a world of darkness, curtains closed all the time in my room,And wear sunglasses indoors when It's bad 😎😎😎

My taste is not great in fact that's pretty 💩💩 too,

That can change several times in the same day, I only drink water and coffee and yet I can taste tea or a really disgusting something, Food is limited because I just can't taste what it's meant to be,😫😫😫😫😫

I use to go to the supermarket at silly o'clock (5-6am)to avoid people and noises, Now I give Hubby a list or I go on-line,

I declare Fibro is a really💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩curse that keeps on testing us all,we can only pray for a cure,

ANYWAY I hope everyone has a good as it gets day and plenty of rest

Take care Debs 🤗🤗

Fibros can seem to have a lot in common with their Asperger friends. Senses easily overwhelmed. Are they suffering because of a missed diagnosis even?

Gillyflower18 profile image
Gillyflower18 in reply toAl10

Many people with ASD1 also have fibro, ibs, tinnitus and migraines as concurrent conditions. You are right.

Al10 profile image
Al10 in reply toGillyflower18

I did not know that for a fact. Just a hunch. Thanks. It's not good though, is it? Except maybe narrowing down the reasons for fibro?

Gillyflower18 profile image
Gillyflower18 in reply toAl10

For me it helped explain a lot so it was good. There's quite a bit of research in this area that may be enlightening. Also anxiety and depression are common. I forgot those. So far as I can tell they still haven't figured out causal factors. It's a which came first the chicken or the egg thing!
