Fibromyalgia In To Much Pain To Travel By Car

Travelling by vehicle on any distance after 30 mins being the driver or passenger totally gives me the sweats, stomach ache, exhaustion & fatigue etc.To be honest it makes you feel like you have run the marathon etc.

Does anyone else feel like this or at least suffer a few of my problems etc.

I drive a automatic so less stress on the legs etc.

Not driving so much these days so b.oody boring as I love my precious collection of vehicles etc.

How would you explain that you cannot make along journey with a good sticking point such as nope definitely no way but being polite & honest etc.

Kindest Regards

Hi Fibroguy66,

I get very stiff after 30 minutes and my back hurts, but that's due to lumbar spondylitis. I am the same as you, I don't drive much these days anyway.

I scored down on quite a few descriptors bcoz I drive a manual car, but I'm still getting a manual as I just can't get used to automatic yet. They have misunderstood my difficulties anyway, they're not comparable to me being able to switch gears (issues I have in my hands when preparing food) so I'm hoping at my review it will be looked at differently if I get some further medical evidence to explain its the fine motor skills and therefore nothing to do with my ability to change gears, but I feel I've taken a massive gamble, but hey, I am not going to stop doing something that I'm fully able to just to make them feel justified.

I wouldn't say that I necessarily get the sweats thru driving that far, they are just general anyway so I doubt it's related to me driving.

If it's someone you know who is asking you to drive somewhere where you know you'll be uncomfortable with the time taken to drive, just explain to them that I'm sorry but I'm not physically able to drive that distance any longer due to my health. I'm sure they should understand that.

Hello ,I drive locally but that’s it, enough too keep me sane and shorter journeys , I sat this week for 90 mins car journey , my daughter is a good driver although as a passenger I watch others and I’m still breaking even though I’m not driving🤣it was a cool day so was brilliant as this extreme heat has me running for my fan , I do not think driving is a pleasure nowadays. More like a necessity, everyone seems too be in a rush and some of our local roundabouts are now over run with cars as they keep adding in the bigger stores.

I plan a stop every half hour or so and, if in too much pain I let my OH drive despite being a rubbish passenger.

Costa would go bankrupt if I stopped using the car.

I have a boat which is a 4 hour drive away so not using the car is not an option.

I also use my wireless TENS machines on my legs when I'm a passenger which relieves the inability to stretch a bit.

It also helps when my 6' tall sons are not in the back so I can push the seat back but they are very useful at the other end so I try not to complain.

At the end of the day I weigh up whether it is worth the pain of the long distance journey before setting off.

Sitting around the house in the crappy Midlands is mentally far more painful than sitting on my boat watching the wildlife on the coast so, unless I'm so bad I can't walk to the car, the journey is worth it.

I would just be honest with people about how difficult it has become for you. The concentration required for driving can give me a migraine. I also suffer with spondylitis. I tend to only drive short distances. My husband drives if we’re going further but lately I’ve noticed that even that is becoming more painful and exhausting. It’s horrible isn’t it? I feel too young to be so restricted.

Thankyou for your kind words.More than 30 mins is enough for me honestly.

It's like I'm sweating buckets & pains in my middle abdominal area & abit short on breath etc.

Only 59 & feeling way older.

It's so stressful indeed.

I feel like a burden.

Hi Fibroguy66 😊🌿🌸🦋

I’m so sorry that you’re suffering so much with traveling. I have been through this too so I fully understand what you’re going through.

No one understood when I told them I couldn’t travel. They said I was lying or making it up. I have learned that others opinions don’t really matter…what matters is you do what is best for you.

I just told them that traveling makes me very ill and it takes a toll on my body. I can’t endure the suffering it causes me anymore.

Best wishes that all works out for you. I pray that you’ll be as pain free as possible.

Take care.

Love and prayers

Trying to travel these days is like the devil 😈 riding on ya back for sure & the pain is none to sweet.

Waiting on my blood test results at the moment & a private consultant appointment with my urologist.

Have letters from the finest specialist in the UK saying I find it hard n quite difficult to travel etc,so the word of these good people should stand hopefully.
