Swollen abdomin and feeling nausia
try not to stress, you need to see your doctor, hiatus can cause swelling of the abdomen, but it can also get swollen pockets, which can get infected, and you will need a antibiotic, possibly?.
Keep an eye on your diet, rule out all that kicks it off, and speak to your doctor about medication for the problem.
It’s an uncomfortable illness, but you can live with it. Good luck, let us know how you get on.
I have RA and a few other issues with my fibro and felt very bloated and was worried and speaking to my GP we worked out if was acid reflux. Maybe keep a diary for a week of what you are eating and how you feel after. Mine was a mix of lungs and heart not being happy with the meds. Simple fix gaviscon 🥰
Hi Shazza ☺️
I, too, have Fibromyalgia and suffer terribly with my stomach, namely IBD/S. I think something like 60-70% of people with Fibromyalgia have IBS. I'm not saying you have that of course, I'm just mentioning that it's incredibly common amongst our group. But a massive symptom that I get with it is bloating, it's incredibly uncomfortable and can get quite painful.
I've suffered with it since I was a child, long before the Fibromyalgia diagnosis at 30. I tried all the medications. I tried cutting out dairy, egg and wheat. That helped a touch but it didn't make a life altering difference. My period also plays a huge factor too, exacerbating my IBS symptoms. At the end of last year, I was introduced to the Low Fodmap diet. It's a "restrictive diet" to begin with. Cutting out all of the foods that have been tested that show high Fodmaps.
(Definition from Google as I can't explain it very well. Fodmaps - any of a group of carbohydrates whose presence in the diet is thought to contribute to the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. The term is used mainly with reference to a diet that is low in these compounds (which are mainly carbohydrates))
It's not an easy one, the restriction part at the beginning is a battle, but you eventually start reintroducing foods back in a controlled manner to see what you can tolerate. It's not for everyone. Some people love food. I've always had a funny relationship with food due to the pain I get when eating and digesting. But it's definitely worth reading a bit about it if you're suffering with IBS symptoms.
Sorry this was so long 😂. I just wanted to share. It may not help you and you may not be suffering with IBS, but there might be others out there that are.
I truly hope you get to the bottom of your problem. As a fellow bloatee, I am sympathetic to your pain.
Best wishes
Gemima
I was diagnosed with ibs a few months ago but I'm not sure wats that means
I'm not particularly good at explaining things so I have taken some excerpts from a quick Google hunt that'll perhaps explain it a little.
Mayo Clinic - Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common disorder that affects the stomach and intestines, also called the gastrointestinal tract. Symptoms include cramping, abdominal pain, bloating, gas, and diarrhea or constipation, or both. IBS is a chronic condition that you'll need to manage long term.
NHS Website - The exact cause is unknown, it's been linked to things like food passing through your gut too quickly or too slowly, oversensitive nerves in your gut, stress and a family history of IBS.
There are medications you could try, depending on your top symptoms which you'd be best off discussing with your GP. I, personally, have found diet and stress levels are my top contributing factors. If I eat onion, garlic, dairy, bread, artificial sweeteners, to name a few. I know I am in for a world of hurt later. I even have to check make-up, moisturisers, toothpaste, body wash, etc, don't contain things like Sorbitol, as even if absorbed through my skin, I have the IBS symptoms.
My IBS became all consuming, it affected my life so badly when I didn't have some semblance of control with it. It caused me to suffer with depression, anxiety, inflamed skin on my mouth and eyes. I developed something akin to PTSD after a particularly bad period where I was releasing my bowels up to 20 times a day. I'd be shaking, sweating and nearly passing out each time it happened. It became a vicious circle/cycle. I was anxious because of it and it exacerbated the issue. I couldn't wear anything with a waistband because the bloating was so painful.
I have had to become my bowels personal assistant 😂.
Again, sorry for the lengthy message. I'm very passionate about IBS and removing the stigma around it. We all poop, every single one of us, so there is no shame in discussing it when you're having trouble.
My inbox is open if you ever need anyone to talk to about it ☺️

Hi
I have a sliding hiatus hernia as well as Fibromyalgia. The bloating and stomach pain got so bad I went to the GP and saw a nurse as all the GP appointments had gone! Before they offered me a third lot of antacids I refused (politely) and highlighted the blotting, nausea and vomiting.
The nurse was great she referred me via the fast tract route to the surgical team. Saw another nurse with a long title, she was good arranged a number of test, bloods, stool samples via GP surgery. All negative, so then had scans and an endoscopy (with sedation) all negative. Weirdly the gastroscopy didn’t show the hernia, which hasn’t disappeared. This puzzled the surgeon when a questioned the results. A lovely chap he decided to arrange a barium meal for this week.
Went on antiemetics to lessen nausea. This helped, I started eating a limited diet and as things have calmed introduced foods to see what made it worse, I found alcohol , red meat, bread, fried or air fried food and some veg. Interesting what Shazza said.
I also have IBS which I have had for thirty years the symptoms were more severe.
I would go and see your GP or practice nurse just to get checked out especially if your worried, best to be safe.
Good luck hope you get sorted out.
Hey there - did they consider gastroparesis for you (did they do a gastric emptying test). I had exactly the same issues as you and couldn’t hardly eat without nausea and vomiting and turned out it was gastroparesis … but I had been on opioids too long, which caused it - and it is reversible once the opioids are withdrawn with a change of diet. Just a thought …
Hi I have had a swollen stomach for awhile it's distended outward which is causing breathing issues especially when I sit upright. I feel like my stomach is pushing towards my chest. Going docs all the time they pushing Omeprozale to me constantly and I am getting fed up of it tooKeep going docs and hopefully they may find some relief for you
🤞❤️
My swollen abdomon interferes when I breath
Bloating is so uncomfortable isn't it 😕 As others have said IBS is very common, medication also has a big effect on the bowels. Codeine practically shuts them down for lots of people, then you get all the symptoms around that added on 😫
Noticed you've been on Omeprazole for a while, so have I. Supposed to get checked if long term but I never have, you? You might find this interesting?
