hi I have asked my gp can he send me to pain clinic but he keeps refusing and I am still waiting for physio I have been waiting over 6 months now and no medication seems to be working. I am taking amitriptyline and my gp increased from 25mg to 50mg and still not taking pain away. I have now got cbd oil and that is not working either. Any advice please ?

Hi Kazzza

The best way forward I have found when stalemate occurs is to put the request in writing. It then becomes part of your notes and it cannot be disputed whether you have put the request in or not. Once you have written to your GP leave it a few days and then follow it up with a telephone consultation. I had tried for 2 years to get a referral to Guys and St Thomas's Fibro clinic so eventually put my request in writing. During the telephone consultation I had a meltdown and burst into tears and hey presto I got the referral. May be worth it for you, if not perhaps a change of GPs. Not sure where you are but if the pain clinic isn't an option then try one of the fibro clinics. Guys only offer one appointment but you would see 3/4 people including rheumatology, psychology, physio etc they then put together a plan and forward it to your GP for action.

Hope this helps. Good luck

Hi Kazzza1976,

I was using tripys for years and no relief but due to other controlled drugs I stopped them as I was getting too sleepy and sleeping my life away cd’s were mst 90mg morning and night, pregabalin 300mg morning and night and diazepam 2mg 3 times a day so dropping the tripys made sense, speak to your gp again there might be something else but tripys are the most common. Ask another doc to refer you to the pain clinic it’s your right but if anything like Glasgow you’ll be waiting ages.

Hope you get it under control soon, I have constant pain now flare ups have up and gone all that is left is pain.

(((hugs)))

Hi Kazzza I'm on am on amitriptyline, duloxetine, lanzeprasole, imipramine and none work for pain. These medications are given to trick the body Into thinking it's overly happy and everything is nice and rosy. They are antidepressants but by having these it is supposed to override the pain factors on the emotional side to reduce pain but so far my body seems to be too stubborn to accept them and they do absolutely nothing for me. I have been waiting 2 years on the pain clinic with an urgent referral and so far still nothing. Morphine is given as a last resort but seems to be the only thing that works xx

I’m on morphine and have been for 22 years, tried them all but 90mg of MST seems to keep me going and I won’t let anyone tell me any different if you feel you need it ask but my GP informed me for new patients there will be no more morphine he says I’m fine due to the length of time I’ve been on it. It’s a GMC decision not GP’s. When I was 1st dx with fibromyalgia hardly anyone had heard of it but now just about every second person has it. My life has been blighted by pain since my mid 30’s I’m now in constant pain, never leaves. Do the same as above written request to doc then see what happens. Take care my lovely.

Hello,

I saw your post. What is MST? I was on 30 mg of morphine for a long time as well for severe relentless pain. It worked great for me, and I never had I never had to increase the dosage. Do you mind if I ask you how much you take?

Morphine Sulphate Tablets. 90mg morning and night plus I have Sevredol for breakthrough pain. I’m pleased to hear 30mg was adequate for you.

I am surprised that your GP is not being more helpful insofar as he has refused to refer you to a pain clinic. Have you asked him why, because I would want to know his reasons.

I have been taking Amitriptyline for a number of years, and up to recently I found that it was very effective. Taking 25mg at night. Recently my nerve pain was getting worse, and my GP recommended duloxetine in addition, which I find does help, I do get terrible pins and needles in my legs and feet when I go to bed, but usually the meds get me off to sleep. I usually read for about an hour to relax me and then I get really sleepy. A weighted blanket may also help.

The problem is that different things work for different people, so it is very much a case of trial and error.

I try to keep as active as possible during the day to stop my muscles from seizing up - having a dog helps as he needs walking every morning.

I do hope you get your pain relief sorted as I know how debilitating it can be. I always feel so sorry for people who have ‘unhelpful’ GPs, because mine is lovely and very caring. Unfortunately, even now, I think that a great many GPs do not understand fibromyalgia and tend to be somewhat dismissive of the symptoms.

Good luck! ❤️👍

Hi kazza you can do a self referral to the physio your surgery should have the physio contact number they will book you in when you ring them. Regards the pain clinic I was promised by my gp I would be referred to one but it never happened despite requesting it several times I was given a pain management leaflet to read instead. In a nutshell it advised you to learn to live with the pain and do what you can to live your life when pain is not as bad. Didn’t really help me as that is what I was already doing when my pain is so bad the only way anyone will notice is when I limp and use a walking stick to steady myself.
