So sorry to read this. Pain management is crucial to being able to live with this horrid condition. My doctor took almost a year trying to figure out which medication helped me the most. We started off with a couple of different pills, they didnt work, so he swapped one out, that didnt work, so thats what he continued to do until we found the right paring of pills that actually did help. I took Gabapentin alongside Tramadol, with amytriptoline at nights. This combination worked for me and eased the pain allowing me to function at least. Over time, i gradually reduced the pills, tried acupuncture which helped enormously, and now manage with just regular paracetomol/ibuprofen and gel rubs, and generally anything that gets me through the day without being too drugged up. Its trial and error really. I do hope that your wifes doctor can get her sorted sooner rather than later, but im afraid there is no quick fix. Good luck.
I'm so sorry I am in a similar situation with fibromyalgia and CRPS, please be careful with morphine the more you take the more the body craves and it doesn't help the pain I was addicted for 18 months and it was hell coming off 😞 .With trials some hospital do there's one in Liverpool I will Google the name.
With cannabis I have asked several times I saw a private pain doctor for a private prescription was rejected.
You have to just keep pushing to see different consultants, it is trial and error I've been on lots of different medication now very low dose tramadol and paracetamol get maybe 20% small time pain relief good luck it's horrible I know it's exhausting.
Hi Threewisemonkeys , fair enough to say you have to be careful with Morphine, but it’s not true that everyone who takes it craves it and gets addicted, a lot of People are prescribed a dose and stay at that dose without cravings for more as you call it . Everyone is different, so I think you generalised statement is not true, and to a lot of people, as I know myself Morphine , can help you to start having a life again. I myself would not continue my small dose if I started craving more and more .
Hi Threewisemonkeys, I’m sorry if I was a little blunt earlier, I was in a rush , so wrote my reply in haste. No ! not much fun if you got addicted to the Morphine you were taking. On the subject of addiction there are a good few Pharmaceutical medications you can be come addicted to, I see you’re looking at Cannabis, this can be addictive as the same with Gabapentiod class of medication. Like I said before we are all different, and you have to find Pain medication that helps you , without terrible side effects and becoming addicted.
hi I never said everyone craves it or gets addicted I said be careful.
i won't continue to post if I am going to come across statements such as yours , we need kindness in the world not criticism I was just pointing out my situation
Hi Hidden, I’m sorry if I’ve offended you and apologise, your opinion is as valid as everyone’s , I didn’t mean to actually offend you , I was just stating that some people get on okay with Morphine. I don’t know if you read my update from the original comments , but I was trying to apologise, and if you read through my comments I didn’t actually criticise you , I was saying about how people are different.
I am so sorry your wife is in so much pain. You are correct about nothing helping.
I am in touch with a fibromyalgia sufferer in Canada, she is in her 70’s & is a grief counsellor. She practices meditation & breathing exercises. She has heard of all the drugs used in the UK & says none of the works.
Hi Vivtom, Sorry to hear about your wife. Like me she sounds like she's been given the merry go round with getting any help for her symptoms. It's taken me around 5 years to be diagnosed and a further 2 years to get help, as the 4 Gp practices I went to just ignored me and left me to suffer. It was a referral to my local Pain Clinic that gave me some help. They prescribed me with a dual purpose medication for Fibromyalgia. It's a pain killer, as well as an antidepressant. I tried Sertraline & boy did I come up in painful red, blistering depots all over my face, neck and hairline. Then I tried Citalopram and had the same reaction. Now my body seems to have accepted a Duloxetine 20mg dose. I've been taking it for about 2 months now & feel so much better with a dramatic loss of pain. Just last Monday they increased my dosage to 30mg to see if they can further reduce the pain. I also have a link from my Gp (finally) to try and get talking therapy, but he wants me to get CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), so that's something I have to do myself. My mood has lifted, I feel motivated to do what I can rather than being scared of what pains will come. I just keep trying, not always successfully, but at least I'm trying. I also just stop and relax as soon as I feel the pain coming on and this has reduced the amounts of flare ups I'm having. Previous to the medication this didn't work at all. And just like your wife, I also take Morphine fir my arthritis. I hope this information helps. Tell your wife she's lucky to have you care so much about her. Please let us know how you get on. All the best 😍
Medication for Fibromyalgia & depression in the UK
I have fibromyalgia and Ankylosing Spondylitis and have taken every medication known to man! Now have biologic injection weekly and Buprenophine pain patches. Not perfect but makes life manageable. Grateful for that. I really don't think there is a magic bullet. Good luck x
Hi I'm sorry to hear of your wife's pain & I sympathize as I'm in similar situation.... I'm pretty much bed ridden from fibromyalgia plus back problems & pain coupled with exhaustion are constant companions.... I'm currently on acti-morph after moving house & therefore moving dr's! Our new Dr's aren't sympathetic or very considerate they're forcibly weaning me of morphine without giving me any alternative plus they've told me they're going to wean new off my patches too.... I'm in deep despair... Sorry I didn't mean to write soon much about me
I've been told by pain management that they don't know how to treat chronic pain nothing works.i have tried medical cannabis in sweet form and it works better than anything else I've tried, but it's expensive shame the NHS won't give it to every one who need it.
just a thank you for all the people who kindly responded about my wife’s fibro.problems.
I now think I will ask for a home visit, to assess the situation. Also I will ask for for some advice from an occupational therapist. This may help a little by making a few alterations to make life easier.
