does anyone suffer with really bad Vertigo? I have been in bed for four days with horrendous vertigo and being physically sick…I seem to be taking these episodes much more often and can’t get out of bed with each episode…..can’t even lift my head off the pillow, just wondering if anyone else has these symptoms with Fibromyalgia and how do you cope.

My mum has had this for a few years now, they think it's something called Ménière's disease. She now has medication she can take as soon as she feels it starting, doesn't stop it altogether but calms it right down and stops her being sick. She says it's like being on a waltzer. Hopefully your GP can help with something, even if it's just stopping the sickness. Hope you feel better soon x

Oh no, Awful 😞 Talking of projectile vomiting, every time I paint a ceiling that always happens 🤮 Gotta try keeping my head straight and just look up with my eyes every now and then! I do have a few patchy ceilings 😂

Sounds like a vestibular issue like Labrynthitis, Meniere's or even Vestibular Migraines. I suggest you contact your GP asapas there are medications to relieve symptoms.

I was diagnosed with Vestibular migraines last year but my symptoms don't sound as severe as yours, however migraines affect different people in different ways. I felt really off balance 24/7 but never had spinning vertigo, and had pressure on the back of my neck as well as the usual migraine symptoms, sensitivity to sound, bright lights. I've never had tinnitus but some VM sufferers do.

I could feel nauseous but wasn't ever sick. I now take a migraine preventative daily which has helped a lot.

My FIL has Meniere's and gets attacks which are horrible but then go away. He has hearing loss and tinnitus, both common with Meniere's. Do yours go away, how many episodes have you had?

Thank you so much for your reply. I keep taking these episodes every few weeks, this time I haven’t been able to get out of bed for 4 days now, it’s been very severe and very debilitating as I just can’t do anything. The Doctor gave me tablets for vertigo and sickness tablets but they don’t work. I’m fed up! I hate feeling this way.

Could be BPPV which is easily remedied by the Epley manouvre. I had this done by my GP to rule out BPPV but you can easily try it at home. Or ask GP to do it. There are lots of videos on Youtube that talk you through it and if it doesnt work after you've tried it correctly several times then at least you've ruled it out. If you have someone who can help you at first its easier.

Ive had Fibro for 40 years, I first noticed vertigo at the very beginning and has continued on and off. A few weeks ago I phoned my GP as I had a very bad episode and she sent me to the hospital. They did all the tests, blood, blood pressure heart trace and all were fine, they also did a CT scan, which was clear. They were going to send me to another hospital for an MRI scan but I declined. While in the hospital a Dr did a manoeuvre on my neck whilst hanging off the edge of the bed, I felt immediate relief. Maybe speak to your Dr and find out if they can tell you what the manoeuvre was (unfortunately I didn't ask) and where you can get help. I think a Chiropractor might be able to help you.

Good morning,

I’ve had two bouts of vertigo, a year apart, which was really horrid. Never suffered with it before and totally unknown why it would start at age 56yrs.

My GP did a manouvre … based on me lying flat and turning my head to one side whilst I felt sick and thought I was falling off the bed! It worked!! I did exercise, which can be found online, and after 2 weeks felt cured.

However, the 2nd bout wasn’t as straight forward. Repeated all the above but needed medication too. I’m now left with slight vertigo and I’m very wary of bending or turning quickly and also turning over in bed.

I am left with slight spinning sensation.

I do wear hearing aids…. Not sure if this makes it worse.

Thinking of you and hope you feel better soon.

Best regards

Elaine

Hi Beverley I’ve occasionally had vertigo but recently it was so bad I went to the Doctor & was prescribed medication 💊. At the same time it coincided with very high blood pressure so my meds were increased. Glad to say it cleared up eventually but was so glad I had my own BP monitor as otherwise I’d be non the wiser.

I found lying in bed was the worse thing for vertigo, just sitting upright was best for me. I also suffer with migraines. As with other fibro sufferers bright lights hurt my eyes & I wear sunglasses 🕶️ whenever it’s bright.

Hope it clears up very soon but do go to the doctors as meds do help.

Best wishes Angela

Hi i am suffering with vertigo at the moment. It has been 3 weeks now and i have a freat doctor who put me on meds straight away. I had it about 4 years ago and ended up in hospital. This time i got to speak to doctor straight away so was on the meds. But nothing changed after a week so he was concerned about some of my symptons being a stroke. Had a ct scan all clear. I have not driven for a month as i still have the spinning if i turn my head to quickly.

Hi, yes I started to get vertigo about two years ago, and it wasn’t from my ears. I believe that mine comes from my neck as I have bone spurs and degenerative spine. Dr’s gave me a MRI head but nothing, they weren’t very sympathetic and that led them to diagnose me with fybromyalgia. I also have discoid lupus and ruptured discs. So I would go to dr’s to get it checked.

It’s very hard to cope with isn’t it. Just rest up.

Wow can't believe it. I have had dizziness that felt like vertigo symptoms for the last couple of days. Didn't have the sickness with it. I do suffer from migraines and take tablets for when I get symptoms. I did take my migraine tablet as put it down to migraine as was also sensitive to light and noise.I hope you feel better soon.

I never know whether any ailments are linked to each other, but I have had spine problems for 40+ years, which c.28 years ago went with bad vertigo, and even 3 fits. Was investigated for tumour, epilepsy etc, but was thought to be trapped nerve in top of neck (?vagus). Since found gentle (McTimoney trained chiropractor) spinal manipulation every few months keeps it largely at bay. Though got it currently and briefly blacked out just walking to kitchen the other day ( seeing manipulator next week…delayed due to her health problems). I have to rest neck as much as possible meanwhile, sometimes it ‘self mends’, but I recognise this won’t till manoeuvred. So anyway, have you considered neck as possible cause of vertigo etc?

The neck suggestion is very good. I do believe my vertigo is more neck related than my ears. I have always said so even when been checked out by a specialist some years ago.

It does come and goes. Especially when my neck plays up. I find neck exercises help my dizziness. 🙂
