having received my claim form this morning After waiting 2 weeks text msg sent to me said it would take 7-10 days rang them last Friday to say I hadn’t received and they said they would extend the time till end of august and would send out new form so had to ring again to tell them first claim form arrived and date was to return by10th so I asked for extension of time to rerun he said I have plenty of time and I said I need more time as I can’t rush so he said if u haven’t completed to ring back and tell them I said ok. An u put on the system anyway now feeling anxious im going to take my time so let’s see how we go 😝

Unfortunately when you ring the 'DWP,' you are just ringing a call centre, & they try to advise, but often get it wrong! So one says end of August, & another says to call back if you need more time after you rang back.....

I'd suggest ringing again first thing in the morning (9am) being the best &, without going into detail, say you need more time, & you should automatically get an extension of 2 weeks.

Sorry you've been put under this additional stress.

When you complete your form, try & give a couple of recent, detailed examples as to the difficulty you face for each applicable descriptor, i.e. when did it happen, where, what happened, did anyone see this, & were there any consequences to attempting/doing an activity such as pain/fatigue.?

Say if you can do each applicable activity 'reliably,' i.e. safely, to an acceptable standard, repeat as often as one would reasonably expect, or if it takes you much longer than someone without a disability.

Have a look here for more detail about the activities/descriptors: cambridgeshire.gov.uk/asset...

Try keeping a diary for a week or so. Just complete a few questions at a time, & you can always add extra pages at the end, just ensure you put your name & National Insurance number on each page. Keep a copy of everything 'just in case,' & get a free Certificate of Posting from your Post Office when sending the form off.

You should not be placed under this unnecessary stress. I suggest that you call again to ensure they extend for as long as you need. You can stress illness and anxiety. I’ve had to extend a few times recently time to complete the big form (how my health conditions impact my mobility/life) due to illhealth and they have each time been so kind. The most recent they gave me 2 more weeks without me asking. They’re having lots of online system faults too. I was advised to take completed paper application to a post office, get a receipt of posting (DWP provide a Freepost envelope but you cannot send it by recorded or special delivery). Then call DWP to confirm posting and that you have a receipt of posting. They will then allow at least 7-10 days to receive your application due to our erratic postal service. All the best.

they sent me a form to fill in it took over 3 weeks to get to me and the date to return it by was 5 days from the date it came, 2 of those days the post office were on strike and a 3rd was a sunday, i phoned them and told them this, after being on hold for over an hour, the woman said that they knew they were taking quite a long time to get to people and it should only have taken 2 weeks to get to me, they dont take this into account when they send it out, so, when they claim that you have a month to return it to them you dont, you only have 2 weeks, and like you i cant rush to fill forms in, my fibro also affects my hands

That happened to me. Postage dated 10th June on letter. Didn't get to until 4th July!!! I rang them and got a month extension. Rang again yesterday as super flare meant I was consigned to the sofa most of the week. Plus Citizens Advice saying they cannot help me fill in form as they did few years ago.

Got another two weeks extension, but really don't think I'm going to manage that when I can barely think due to the high amount of antihistamines I'm having to take with a head wrapped in fog. Don't know what to do if that happens although I might be able to beg GP for a letter or something.

Hi I’m surprised that citizens advice won’t. Help I’m doing mine on my have done a lot research and taken advice so I’m just taking my time and doin it at my own pace I told to put on the system that o called as he said I have plenty of time that’s a joke so will see how it goes I would if possible as someone advised me to ring at 9am maybe the next will be a bit more helpful

Yes so was I, they were excellent during the pandemic.

I hope it all goes well for you! I rang in the afternoon as I'm dreadful in the mornings, but I have to say they were fine with granting me the extension. But nonetheless you just feel stressed doing it anyway. The entire process is stressful and frankly a disgrace. I cannot fathom how the mentally ill cope with it.

Hi, my current experience with the forms:I call on 29.05.2023

The form arrived 17.06.2022 with date for return 30.06.

The review form is completely different and I had to adjust the answers to it. I scanned it and started with the help of my son. Took me 10 days. Was ready by the 27th to attach the answers sheets and post it. But... can't find it, looking for it 2 days , trying to contact PIP and so frustrated ... Finally got connected on 29.06.

She was very understanding and told me not to worry, they will send me a new form and to take my time and if need more time, to call again.

The new form arrived on the 14th with a return date 30.07.23

The people we talk to when calling PIP are not bad, many of them are empathetic, so call and explain, and they will give you an extension .

Already sent it back, as someone above said:

Use recorded, or next day, or special delivery.

Take Care
