Good morning does any of you experience the head explosion at night?EHS) is a type of sleep disorder in which you hear a loud noise or explosive crashing sound in your head. The sound isn't real or heard by anyone else. The episode typically happens suddenly either when you're beginning to fall asleep or when you wake up during the night.there is not treatment for that and the doctor said is link with sleep paralysis I am very concern any advice please!!😢

Thanks

Good morning, that sounds horrendous. I am sorry but I have never heard of it before so can not comment.

Hopefully someone will be able to offer more input. Week ends round here tend to be a little slow. Just wanted to let you know your post has been seen xx

Hi I don’t suffer with that but do occasionally get sleep paralysis. You do eventually get used to it and it becomes less frightening.

Hey, I used to experience this, but I haven't had an episode for a few years now. I was on gabapentin at the time and switched to amitriptyline (very slowly, withdrawal from gabapentin was horrendous), and they became less frequent and eventually stopped. Are you on any medication?

Hello, I had never heard of this but it would seem to be similar to a phenomenon that I experience. I at times, typically when I have done too much activity during the day, feel very tired, go to bed, start to fall asleep, then get a very loud and sharp sound in my head (sometimes there is a sharp, burning sensation in the right of my head too). My brain then seems to be in a different 'mode' and I can't fall asleep for ages, then I start to drift off but experience what I assume is breath holding followed by panicked gasping as I come round. This can last for maybe 30 minutes. It's been going on for years.

Sadly I don't have a real solution for this. Sleeping tablets can help a bit after the worst of a night's bout has passed. Meditative deep breaths and trying to control anxiety also, when it occurs. The only medical professional who has taken me seriously has been my rheumatologist, but he had no expertise here I think and could only offer sympathy. I tried telling a couple of GPs but they looked at me as though I was mad.

I wish you well.

hi

I have suffered a few head explosions when asleep … waking me with very bad dizziness and disorientation… I was given strong antihistamines as doc said a kind of motion labirinth migraine .. they did help and. Know that if I go to bed with headache this could happen so take one before I go to sleep.. hope this helps with discussion with your doc and you get some relief

I have also experienced these head explosion's and they are truly horrid. I saw a different doctor who looked at all my meds and said.....Oh dear, you shouldn't be taking these together". It was Citalopram and Tramadol that I was on. Changed the Citalopram for Mirtazapine and all is well. I am not saying it only happens with that combination of drugs but worth a mention. The doctor said "The sad thing about this is we prescribed them!" Maybe just happened with me on those drugs, but I hope you get it sorted soon as they are frightening. Take care 😉😊

I’ve had these explosions too, but on one occasion I was actually awake and walking. It literally stopped me in my tracks!

yes it happens on and off to me Exploding Head Syndrome. Sounds can vary like a earthquake, lorry crashing into the house or someone banging really loudly on the door, or someone dropping a pile of heavy bricks or a bomb going off. First time it happened I thought a train had come off its tracks at the back of my home. There's a single track quarry railway.

Its weird but doesn't worry me now. Fibro, neuro, migraines who knows. I also get Ocular rainbow migraines now.

Yes I know exactly what you mean unfortunately. The first time I had it I was terrified. It was like a huge noisy explosion and flash of white light My doctor did not know anything about it. I experience different types sometimes like a loud twang kind of noise. Sorry you are suffering too.It is hard to explain to people that don't have it what it is like. I googled images of it to try to explain and see how it appears to other people that suffer it.. I have other problems sleeping too Bruxisum ,nocturnal panic attacks , I used to get that feeling of not being able to move but awake too. Gosh shouldn't have seen your post so late I hope we all manage a good night tonight. Having to cope with fibro , ibs. diviticular . problems , irritable bladder cystocele rectocele tinintis anxiety etc etc , the list is endless and not easy but we must keep smiling somehow.

Well, yes but I thought it was just my messed up brain 🧠. I suffer sleep starts and repeated falling sensations through the night, these have been "normal" for me. However, I can't tell you when these odd occurrences started, they have just sort of crept up on me. I would have likely never mentioned them had I not just read this!
