I have both these problems and am at my tether trying to understand how to deal with them. I am constantly bloated and full of wind. I no longer know what to eat or what meds to take to help. Has any one any advice? Thank you.

IBS and Diverticulitis
Hello, it’s very uncomfortable IBS and I know a lot of fibro members suffer including myself some days , that horrible feeling of bloating and wind , I do quite often find my self having too move around with a little walk too try ease this and later in the day a warm bath does help somewhat, for me it’s what I shouldn’t eat that will trigger things off so if I indulge I know what coming 🙁, but I know what you mean it’s hard too get the right balance, also our daily meds we take dont always help do they ☹️have you spoke too your local pharmacist (I’m sure you already have) what they recommend too help xx
HiFor me, the only way to end a bout of crippling ibs is to fast for the rest of the day (I can't eat when I'm in pain anyway). The next morning it should be gone. It's hard to do but it's the only thing that works for me. Another tip, if you like fruit, is to eat it mornings only (I have a fruit salad) first thing for breakfast, then leave an hour before you eat anything else.
Good luck.
Suz
9I presume you follow a FODMAP diet, there is an app developed by Monash University that is supposed to give a more sophisticated view of what we can eat. These days they suggest we go dairy and gluten free aswell but dairy and gluten are my safe foods so I ignore that. My dad ended up in hospital with diverticulitis last year, he gave up alcohol which seemed to make the most difference, now he has the occasional drink but thats it.
Hi Jeannt77
Have you been given any professional advice on how to manage your symptoms at all? What meds do you have to take?
I find peppermint tablets about 30-60 mins before each meal can help calm things down a bit.
I haven’t drank anything fizzy in over 25yrs, so eliminating carbonated drinks, spicy foods, cutting down on processed foods too if possible.
Other meds I have to take can also impact my Ibs, even a course of antibiotics or ibuprofen can upset it all.
On top of fibromyalgia, it’s exhausting living with all these different conditions isn’t it. I also have M.E & Ibs.
Hope things settle down for you.
Good luck.
HiI can only comment on IBS. I initially saw a nutritionist to help with diarrhoea, constipation, bloating and pain. I had digestive enzyme supplements for many years but now rely totally on diet. I don't eat gluten but there are alternative flours to use in cooking. I don't eat cows products but I'm OK on sheep and goat's. However the nutritionist told me bio yogurt is ok and I have had it for many years now. It's the way it's treated that makes it ok. I have just started having kefir which I'm finding good but I have to be careful to have just the right amount! I have soya milk. Yeast can also cause problems. I don't eat any processed foods nor tea or coffee. I eat lots of fruit and veg but not windy making veg like cauliflower and broccoli. Nor onions, peppers or cucumber. For the same reason I don't have pulses very often. I don't have processed sugar. We are lucky in recent years that there are so many more alternatives now. I find if I stick to this diet I am more often than not ok but of course it's never fool proof and doesn't always work! It takes a bit of willpower too but years ago I decided it was better to feel ok so it's worth it. It's a bit of trial and error too as what suits one might not suit another. Not sure I always get it right! Anyway I hope that helps a bit and good luck in trying to improve things.
I too have these conditions but since taking acidophilious and digestive enzymes have never looked back, they both stop bloating for me and I rarely get symptoms now, hope this helps
