Before I ask my question just wanted to say I just read the 'spoon theory' as recommended! WOW. Great analogy. Now I can explain to people what it's like!

Anyway - my question is - does anybody know if fybro or lupus can be considered a disability in order to get disabled card for car?? Thanks guys

Yes it can as I have one,it's out of date now but I got it solely through having fibro.Whether I will be able to get it again is another thing as I think it is harder now than when I first got mine last year to apply for one.But definitely go for it x

Thank you so much. Will have a go. When I went online and checked it seemed to tell me I couldn't have one but will keep trying. Thanks haribo. x (Are you a fan of those sweets?) :)

I got one last year & I didn't think I would but there were no problems and I find it very useful. It is definatley worth trying

Hi. I applied a few months ago and got one without any questions. - I thought it was going to be much more difficult.

Mine is valid for three years :)

Hi Lynzard

My husband doesn't drive either :o

However friends and family do and they take me places so the badge comes in very useful. For instance I go back to Cheshire for R & R in a few weeks and birthday celebrations....... and I take it with me so I can put in my friends car. Its amazing having a little bit of freedom back.

I have fibro alongside hypermobility syndrome so the list of medical probs etc was long and I expected to be asked in for a medical!!! :o I wasn't but I filled mine in like I was filling a DLA form in ;)

I cannot walk distances, my mobility is dreadful and I have a wheelchair for when going out so I put on the form that I couldn't walk before feeling pain as I was in pain all the time so therefore couldn't gauge it to answer the question :o

xxxzebxxx let us know how you get on lynzard xx :)

Hi pip, thank you so much. Did you have to justify how far you can walk or anything? x

Yes I only have fibro, although Imade sure I wrote all the symptoms I suffer from and how it affects my ability to be mobile. If I remember, I'll have a look so I tell you more accurately :)

I see from my form I have emphasised how my chronic fatigue severely affects my mobility. I also add that I need help from my OH or stairs/wall. There is a place to write down the conditions you suffer with and the meds you take. Other than that, the rest of the form allows you to describe what difficulties you have. Hope this helps. Can't go into too much detail as bit too much for me this morning... tired just for a change!

Hi Pip do you only have Fibro? As I only have Fibro and back problems like that's not enough lol . It is for all of us but the council and the whole entire system.

Hi. I'll look at the copy of my form and check exactly what I wrote :)

Hi. i've just thought... were you asking if I only had fibro in general or for the form? See above post for type of thing I put in form. Re your question, I have symptoms associated with fibro, eg CFS, IBS. Also have osteoarthritis in neck and hips xx

If you mean the blue badge, then you apply to your council, details are usually on their website.Good luck :)

To apply for a blue badge you will need a form from the council and reference letter from your Doctor that you are in need of one as well as passport sized photographs two I think one has to be verified on the reverse by someone who knows you. It is the distance you can walk which is the factor that will get you a badge

Good luck it is harder these days in some cases and easier for others.

Hi you can apply for an orange card in. Kent that says you are registered as physically disabled however you will need to have an Assesment by an Occupational Therapist and once they issue it to you , you can use this to buy items that might make your life easier without having to pay the Vat. The orang card is a Kent thing I think they issue it in other areas but not sure what its called. You do have to get a good OT though and have your condition confirmed by your GP . My OT issued it to me on my GP instructions then took it back because she wasn't satisfied enough that I'm disabled even though I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and degenerative disc disease and I can't even stand in the shower or get in and out of the bath etc. I'm still waiting to be given it back and she now has tried to convince my GP that its all on my head and there's nothing wrong wit me, and that I have lots of emotional issues and need to be referred to mental health. They both nearly had me convinced that there's nothing wrong with me until all the pain flared up and I've been awake all night long cryin! I'm going to she looking into private health care as I've had enough of the most unhelpful ots in social services and the NHS!

Julesq27

If you live in kent you can apply online without the GP letter but you do have to send in proof of address and passport size picture and it can take up to 8 weeks for it to be processed, I'm still waiting to see what they say. Good luck x

I have had a blue badge for about 7 years now. I first got it solely because of mobility due to at that time undertermind pain but now have other conditions also. Supposedly the blue badge like the DLA is supposed to be given on how you are affected not your condition I understand it does not always work this way but it is supposed to as both the badge and the DLA are given on your health not your condition

I've managed to get one for fibro. Its a case of what you put on the form and how sympathetic your doctor is. It is your docs signature that authorizes it. So convince your doctor. Ok, Good luck

I applied for my blue badge through the gov website. I recently reapplied and got it renewed for another 3 years. In my area you don't need back up letters from doctors ( just as well with my doctors attitude ! ) and you don't pay a fee, but in some places you have to pay. I emphasised my walking problems, but also the difficulties I have getting in and out of the car in confined spaces which if the car next to me has parked too close causes me no end of problems and I've ended up in tears because of the pain trying to squeeze into the car.

Hi, if you get higher rate mobility DLA/PIP you would get a blue badge automatically. I applied online and I was going to have to go for an assessment. I got the decision on my DLA and I never had to go for an assessment. I did have to pay for the badge, £15.00 I think. My doctor supported me with my DLA and I got the blue badge soon after. It's an absolute God-send once you have one. I struggle to get in or out of a car in an ordinary space. I used to cause me terrible pain too. Good luck with your application. Hugs x

It is best to advise your dr you are going to apply first and ensure you put that Drs name on the form. I got mine as dr cancelled my appointment and when I went for the next appt it was at a busy time of day and there was nowhere to park by the time I had found somwhere to park I was late and when I explained the reason to the dr they suggested I complete form ! Good luck xx

Hi,

I have a badge due to fibro, but I am quite affected in my lower back, hips, legs and feet, so walking can be difficult. It is an absolute life saver for me. However, they will check to see how you are affected by contacting your doctor and others involved in your care plan. Sx

Hi,

I have fibro and applied through the council website but had to send off a passport sized photo and a cheque for £10.00. I had a phone call four weeks later to ask me to go for an assessment the following week in the gateway building in Dover. Went and met a lovely lady who just asked me some questions about my condition and how it affects my walking and everyday activities. Was really nice and understanding and then I received my badge about a week and half later. They don't cash the cheque until they agree you are entitled. I wasn't sure if I would get one or not cause got turned down for benefits as got told its a variable condition and the symptoms change daily and I only need help once a night to get up so was really pleased to be awarded one for three years . Made things so much easier.x

Thanks to everyone. Unfortunately as I am not in receipt of PIP or anything the website says I'm not entitled!!

I got mine last year. Didn't need referral from doctor as you have a brief assessment from OT when you are there. I was granted mine before I even got in the room as it took me so long to get to the room as it was winter time and I was aching and finding it very difficult to breathe due to chest infection. I went onto my local council website and clicked on the link to get form.

Yes, as long as your physician fills out his part of paperwork
