UPDATE: spoke to GP on a phone appointment, he has referred me back to the bone consultant (although his soon I will get an appointment is like asking his long is a piece of string!) plus I can ring the physio in two weeks (if not better) for an appointment….got to try.
Good morning,
I have knees with ‘arthritic changes’. So both knees are always cranky, stiff, achy, but a bout 2 weeks ago one started to give way completely, it was like someone kicked my leg out from under me and I would drop like a stone. Luckily, I have managed to save myself each time. My question is whether anyone else has experienced this in relation to fibro? I was only diagnosed with this lurgy a few weeks ago.
Yes, I know I need to go back to the gp, but it’s really hard getting through to them. I am currently just about coping with adjusting how I walk….. no twisting it turning, and going extremely slow - and I am aware this will have other knock on effects on posture etc. thank you 🤗

Although not knees, I had similar with my ankle giving way. I ignored it, thinking it was fibro related. Eventually I saw the GP and a MRI revealed OA, torn tendon and detatched ligament requiring surgery. Guess the moral of the story please don't put everything down to fibro, it's worth checking with the GP.
I did have a torn cruciate ligament a few years ago and the bone guy advised a small op, but by the time I got to go back to see him and said yes he said it was too late as it had self healed 🤣 Well, I wonder what he will say this time - if/when I get back to him. But I do know there is arthritic wear & tear and will need a knee replacement further down the line. Glad to know it’s mostly likely not fibro related x
I too have arthritis in one knee as well as shin pain due to fibromyalgia. I’ve just had my second steroid injection in my knee & it really helps (even with the awful stiffness of fibro)My last injection was 6 months ago but I was told you can have up to 3 a year. Ask your GP to be referred. Hope this helps & your pain eases.
thank you, Booksgranny. I have been under the orthopaedic consultant before the lockdowns started, due to a suspected damaged cruciate ligament. My knees are pretty knackered with arthritis, not much left between the bones 🤣, but we discussed a knee replacement and came to the agreement it wasn’t appropriate yet due to my age (too young at 65) and the risks such an op would pose with covid around and the fact I have a heart condition (af) So it was left at go away and see what happens, come back if starts to significantly affect my day to day living. Well, it’s been mostly ok until a few weeks ago when it just gave way for no apparent reason. I was unable to go to gp/a&e at that time and since being home it’s virtually impossible to get through to the surgery and the apps are all gone when do (similar story to many people) so if I don’t get through today, I will ring 111 for advice. I have had steroid injections in the past for a hip bursitis issue - my lovely gp said it won’t hurt and stuck the needle in …. We laughed as we both agreed she lied 🤣 however, it didn’t help. X
I feel for you, I get knee pain which I think was caused by my hip pain, plus since the hip arthroscopy and the hip muscle not working properly my right foot falls onwards, it’s called over-pronation and I get the worst pain in my heels, ankles and knees from it. It’s changes the alignment of everything and my posture because it causes the back to slant fowards so I’m always getting fatigue and pain in my back. Even lifting me legs onto the sofa or bed my hips crack and I have to be careful not to pull something out of place. I have to get my back cracked and omg it cracks like 15 little clicks. I’m only in my thirties so I don’t see myself making it to my sixties without being in a world of pain
