Dealing with pain.

I wonder if anybody has resorted to occasionally taking ibuprofen once in a while for pain when already taking an anticoagulant. I was so desperate the other day I thought I would try just two tables mid morning and wow what a difference it made to me. Trouble is I worried all the rest of the day that I might have a bleed or something. I felt quite muzzy and lightheaded as well.

Hi there, it maybe a good idea to either ask your GP or your local pharmacist if its ok to take meds your not sure about. Especially when mixing otc and prescribed meds just to be on the safe side 😊

Please be careful of ibuprofen. I took it just as my doctor recommended, and it damaged my stomach. It took me years to recover.

Thank you for the advice. My GP has never suggested I take it instead he gives me Voltarol to rub in because it doesn’t get right into your system. It was just so nice to have a brief time feeling normal.

Be careful and seek GP advice before taking regular. I know tempting with pain levels but you don’t want further problems

As others have said talk to your GP about taking Ibuprofen. I cannot take them because my GP prescribed diclofenic for years which led to many problems with my stomach etc. However I went to Crete a couple of months ago and Codeine is banned in Greece, so rather than the rigmarole of getting dr's letter and contacting the Greek embassy I decided to take Paracetamol with me and Ibuprofen as a backup for the time I was there and I didn't have any adverse reactions. However it is many years since I have taken Diclofenic and I no longer take any meds for indigestion or nausea, apart from Gaviscon occasionally for heartburn.

Hi There,

Not the best idea to take ibuprofen with anticoagulants, they have a similar action to Aspirin and can interfere with the anticoagulant.

You would be better with Paracetamol, if you need something for breakthrough pain, but better still, have a word with your local pharmacist.
