Hi Greyt I get foot pain in a morning, both the top of my feet and the soles too. It feels like they are on fire. Take care and try to keep cool

That’s interesting to hear . I have a bunion which has brought problems and now the docs are saying I have a problem with navicular joint .Along with sudden sharp pain I also feel my feet are burning . I’m trying to determine if all these pains are anything to do with fibromyalgia or seperate issues .🙈my

Hi, Ive had fibromyalgia for 5 years , the last 3 yrs with foot problems related to fibromyalgia. I have plantar fascitis, metatarsalgia along with torn ligaments, this causes me great pain every single day and hurts to walk, awaiting a podiatrist appointment, trying to cope with this along with with all my other aches and pains is a huge struggle

Greyt profile image

Hi there , are you saying those problems have been brought on by fibromyalgia?

Hi, I have very painful feet. I have both OA in my toes and plantar fasciitis. The latter is due to extremely flat feet. Niether of which have anything to with fibro.

My feet had to have casts made and special orthotics made from the moulds. Walking with out these in my shoes is unbearable painful. And the thin ones you can buy of the shelf do nothing to relieve the foot pain.

The in step on the otc insoles are way too flat to lift up the arch and relieve my pain.

If possible I would suggest maybe a visit to see a foot specialist.

Greyt profile image
Greyt in reply toDizzytwo

Thank you so much for that information. I too have flat feet and suspected OA. Can I ask if the orthotics were through the NHS? I have been waiting for NHS podiatrist appointment for months . I have severe sharp sudden pains in my right foot and aching. Now I am starting to have twinges in my left ankle and am wondering if the long wait for the nhs is making the conditions worse .

Hi there, I had mine done on the NHS many moons ago and still going well. Things may have changed since I had mine made. Maybe you could have a word with your pracrise nurse?

Like everything else our feet problems and how they affect us maybe different for everyone good luck 🤞😊

I have RA, OA and Fibro, and have had problems with me feet & ankles for years! I had mri on both feet in January which showed bursitis - I’m still waiting for the outcome of a meeting my rheumy was having with the surgeon 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. In the meantime, my GP advised me to have a bio mechanical assessment, which I had privately last week. Podiatrist said I am not using my right foot properly, which is causing a lot of my issues, including my knee and hip! She has provided me with some half insoles, with lifts in the appropriate places, which she thinks will go a long way to relieving my issues. Can’t tell you how successful they will be yet, cos I then came down with COVID!

Oh poor you with Covid , hope recovery well . Thanks for the info . Think MRI would be good to try and organise . Back to trying to get a doctors appointment I feel .

I've had foot pain for several years, once Dr diagnosed plantar fascitis & podiatrist disagrees (I don't think it is either). I get a lot of neuropathic /nerve type pain including feeling like I'm walking on broken glass (not that I've ever done that but that's what I imagine it would feel like lol), I also get a lot of burning

It's one of the pains I get that nothing really helps

YMEPLEASE profile image

Hi dear, you are describing my feet pain too , I am suffering a lot and nothing helps

paula9087 profile image
paula9087 in reply toHazel_Angelstar

That’s exactly how my feet like. I went to see the duty doctor because I knew I wouldn’t be able to see the fibro doctor. My feet were really swollen and pain really painful from the plantar fasciitis. The doctor said I should of made a appointment and she was really off on one. I said I couldn’t wait the pain was bad and feet was swollen. She didn’t look at my feet. She said the swelling is normal then says you have fibro so you need to make appointment so we can discuss it and that was it. So I’m wondering if the pain is also from the fibro. I wasn’t happy when I came out because she is my fibro doctor.

Greyt profile image
Greyt in reply topaula9087

Sorry you got such short shrift from the doctor. Fibromyalgia brings on such pain but often people can’t understand or sympathise, even doctors . It’s difficult to determine sometimes if it is yet another pain caused by Fibromyalgia or something completely different.Hope they care nicer to you in the future.

Greyt profile image
Greyt in reply toHazel_Angelstar

Thank you Hazel. Interesting that your podiatrist disagrees with your doctor . I amwaiting to see a NHS podiatrist, have been for 5 months now but have recently been recommended a private podiatrist. Think

I will make an appointment as it was my physiotherapist that recommended him.

Hazel_Angelstar profile image
Hazel_AngelstarAdministratorFMA UK Staff in reply toGreyt

My symptoms didn't really fit with plantar fascitis and podiatrist said that if it was, I'd hit the roof when she pressed a certain point, whereas it was painful but no more than I would feel it on any other part of my body

Although not diagnosed as such, my symptoms are more like peripheral neuropathy

Mine got that bad I found that sticking my feet in hot water turned it off for a while, it ended up with the water being that hot or ice cold I scalded my feet quite badly and suffered frostbite to a couple of toes at the same time. I don't do that anymore. Please do not go down this route, your doctor will tell you off.

Greyt profile image
Greyt in reply toMakie-Uppie

😮 that sounds awful, but I can understand how it happened . I use cold pad , pliable ones from the freezer and hot wheat bags which I have been applying hotter and hotter , and I guess we can easily over do it as we are desperate to get away from the pain . I usually put a cloth over my foot before applying the ice pad but have been applying it directly recently and think the pain that it brought on was due to being too cold …. Oh dear , we try any thing to get rid of constant pain .. it’s called desperation.Thank you for your reply .

Hi there sounds very uncomfortable, for you, I bought a foot bath from boots so I give my feet a warm soak with the bubbles, gentle foot massage helps too , I do normally have a volunteer at night after bath even if it’s 5 mins worth with some cream, the husband will do this in exchange for a cup of tea.😉 Comfortable shoes is a must as I am sure it is for most of us now and seeking out good shoe companies is a must , I still use Clark’s and a company online called Damart , they have some good sales too x

Hi I'm in the process of being diagnosed with fibromyalgia, my feet have been causing me pain for 2 years the soles and top, burning and shooting pain type like feelings, been tested for everything and all clear so along with fatigue and body and joint pain and headaches the gp is now looking at this condition.....I also have insoles from the NHS podiatry which I have worn for six months but don't really help.

Nelly1 profile image

Probably Plantar Fasciitis I had that a couple of years back. I had some insoles made from the hospital, took a while to get back to normal but it did eventually. You can buy insoles on Amazon for plantar fasciitis. I’ve heard a lot of Fibro sufferers had the same issue.

Good luck on getting it resolved.

Hi I've hade chronic pain in my right leg below my knee and right side of my shin since a year last march my GP referred me to vascular as he thought my vein might be kinked after waiting months and pain effecting all of my right side of body. It wasn't the vein went private had a mri on my back and waiting for injection into the spine as mri showed a disc resting on nerve endings caused a lot of inflammation which was the cause of pain in right leg not fibro related in this case good luck and big hugs x

Same here, i feel there are more than one reason for my feet pain, first its form has changed, got wider and the sole as well. The ankle joint pain is the worst then it spreads to the whole feet with walking. It also gets very warm especially in the evenings and nights and also swollen and my gp said this is neurological there is no cure. Anyway it is always in pain and i strugle walking especially in winter when it is swollen in shoes. I use different muscle pain creams available on the shelf or amazon. I also had a foot messager from amazon, it releives the pain and improves the circulation

Greyt profile image
Greyt in reply toJegreen

Hi , I find the ache in my ankle so painful. I have tried many of the creams without success. Have recently had x Ray and on topof the diagnosis of having flat feet I have OA starting in the ankle and also a problem with the navicular bone in the ankle . An operation is not a definite cure 🙈

Waiting to see a podiatrist to see if any arch supports will help .

I wonder whether the sharp , burning , pain on the top of my foot is actually neurological too.

Think the foot massager sounds helpful so I will have a look for one .

Thank you for your reply .

Greyt profile image

Hi , you describing it’s like walking on stones is just how I describe it . I get sudden stabbing pain in foot as if I have just stepped bare foot on a sharp stone. Other times a sudden pain like nerve pain . I am at the moment at evening time , soaking my feet in cold water with. Epsom salts in it . Will see how that goes . Definitely been diagnosed with flat feet .. so podiatrist next .

Hi yes I also have very flat feet arches have completely disappeared and they burn like crazy and I get severe pain in my toes and ball of foot if they get yo cold as my old doctor didn't give a hoot as to my condition blaming everything on it but then saying fibro doesn't exist I was stuck between a rock and a hard place so gave up and haven't seen anyone about this specific problem they slso feel like I'm tearing muscle sometimes making it incredible painful to walk but hopefully now we moved this new doctor might just help with some of my symptoms once he's back at work as he's off with covoid at the moment which he tells us he's been super strict in his clinic and always what's a mask and cleans room and himself throughly after each patient so is rather confused as to how he got it... but has been doing some appointments by video calls but I feel I shall wait until he's back and things have called down a little before I start with all my problems just know your not alone and that we are all in this together I hope you get some help and relief ,stay strong and keep your chin up xx

Greyt profile image

Sorry to hear that your old doctor let you down and as for dismissing Fibromyalgia as not real … well don’t get me started. Let’s hope your new doctor will help .I am waiting to see a nhs podiatrist re my foot problems . Fallen arches are just part of the problem , they have possibly brought on the problem in my ankle as I have been walking differently since the arches have dropped 🙈 Whether Fibromyalgia has caused any other of the symptoms is difficult to ascertain.

Thank you for your comments that I am not alone in this and that I am not alone in this …. That really meant a lot to me .

Yes the burning pain on top and yes omg the soles of the feet, so at times i can not put feet to floor. Also the red all around soles of feet and night time look like i have put my feet in boiling water so red. Also swelling the right foot hot and itchy. It makes sleep really hard.

Gaballetto profile image

Hi all,

My husband, who is not an FM sufferer, had foot pain for a year, at the heel but also other, burning pains, which didn't respond to any of the usual treatments for plantar fasciitis - physio, insoles, anti-inflammatories etc - so, finally (just before lockdown), we decide to pay for a 2nd opinion with a foot surgeon. The MRI he ordered showed plantar fasciitis, but also Baxters Neuropathy ( a rare type of trapped nerve). Surgery fixed it all and got him back on his feet (foot), and we are so glad we hurried it along by paying. The surgery was performed on the 10th Feb 2020 and if he had waited for the NHS he'd still be waiting, stuck in his chair and gaining kgs every month. He has since lost 30kg and is fighting fit.

Anyway, my point is, that at that time, we had no idea that trapped nerves can play a big part in foot pain, and the surgeon also mentioned that there is a 'tarsal tunnel syndrome' which can cause pain and burning on many parts of the foot.

I'm not suggesting that you have to pay to be diagnosed and treated right, but that if you're not getting better with conventional PF treatments, maybe there's more to it and it's worth asking your nurse/doctor about other causes of foot pain/tingling/burning, which, to me, is suggestive of nerve pain. My husband's experience proves you can have more that one cause acting at the same time.

Greyt profile image
Greyt in reply toGaballetto

Thank you this is such good information for me . I have a bunion and know that has caused damage and I know they are saying in have OA in the ankle but I have felt there is something else as I get shock like pain, quick and severe and burns . I and friends have all said that sounds like a nerve pain.

Like your husband no anti inflammatory creams etc ,insoles or pain killers have sorted this.

I think I will as you have done seek a private MRI and get a clear idea of what is going on as I really think there’s more than one problem .

Gaballetto profile image

Hi

I havent been diagnosed with Fibro although a very young doctor did ask this to be looked at during a referral privately - who them went on to say is it Sero Negative Arthritis. So I have no clue !! Like most my feet feel like they are on fire and I know I have plantar fascitis in my left foot. Can no longer walk bear foot or without padded arched shoes...thankfully Sketchers work for me. But standing or walking any distance is very painful. Went back to GP yesterday and he seems to think it is compounding of the nerves and has prescribed amitriptyline. Has any one else been prescribed this and does it help?

I was when I was first diagnosed with fibromyalgia but that was because it was cheap and I didn't have insurance. It helped at first some but did gain a little weight and it didn't work enough for me to warrant staying on it so I got off if it after a couple years. Try turmeric that has seemed to help with my pain. I also drink turmeric tea. Lately I started to get foot pain but mine is on the tops of my feet almost as if it's my bones same with my hands sometimes so I'm thinking arthritis maybe. I put hot bean bags and also warm foot baths helps while doing it but then it's still there. It's been constant for about a week and a half now and is driving me crazy but I don't gave insurance so I just deal. I have had fibromyalgia for about 12 years now and have made it this long so I'll survive it just sucks being in constant pain and I can totally see how one could become addicted to pain meds! I have days that I would honestly take anything to have the pain go away. Oh I do also sometimes take a 5mg thc gummy before bed to help me sleep 😴 cause that is also a major problem with this disease. I wish everyone on here the very best!!

Hi Greyt, yes I have a lot of foot pain, ankles & legs too. Podiatrist diagnosed me with a 'touch' of planter fasciitis, gave me exercises and insoles. If you look online there's quite a few available free from podiatrists. I have to keep stretching out my leg muscles as they get so tight so I still use some of the exercises every day. If I don't the pain is so much worse, for me anyway I need to keep moving. Have you ever tried Vicks on the soles of your feet at bedtime? If not it's worth a try. If it doesn't help you'll have lovely soft feet but just remember to wash it off before stepping into the shower as I was like Bambi on ice the first time 😳🤣🤣
