I haven’t been on here for a long time, but I now think that I am having a flare ? I have Fibro.,Rheumatoid Arthritis, degenerative disc disease and Atrial Fibrillation
I went out on Friday evening to see Ed Sheeran which I will say was absolutely brilliant. After the concert I had too walk a fair bit back to the car . Well I have been in bed since Friday evening in lots of pain with swollen feet and very swollen hands. I have a slipped disc in my neck which is agony, and I feel like I could sleep forever.
I try to go to work and get on with things ,I am a Dental Nurse and I work 33 hours a week, I’m now thinking I should cut my hours and try to be kinder to myself. Every day I go to work in pain and I come home very tired and in tears.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get over this flare?
How do you work with Fibro. and Arthritis?
Many thanks 🌺💐🌷

It's such a shame that we have to suffer so much for enjoying ourselves - I'm going to see duran duran this Saturday and I know that I'll be suffering for the next few weeks
For me pacing is key to trying to avoid/minimise a flare. I'm resting up as much as I can this week and will do the same the week after. I will only be doing essential tasks and activities. Taking extra pain meds where required, using heat, mindfulness, cbd, weighted blankets etc
I also work part time doing admin
Fortunately a Monday is my work from home day, so I don't need to worry about having the energy to actually make it into the office until Wednesday.
I love Duran Duran ,in my teens they were my absolute favourite ,I hope you have a great time.
I am still having this nasty flare, the Dr just rang me and she has upped my Morphine patches ,so that should take the edge off of things. She has also signed me off work for 2 weeks, that won’t go down well with work but I can’t help it.
You take care of yourself and thank you for replying .
Hello, hopefully rest it out , I went to see Ed couple years back he is just a brilliant person all round, he had a guest appearance from Stormz and local group The Darkness, Lewis Capoldi , Ed is s our local lad done good from Suffolk , helps with charity’s and gives back to his old school. I must admit I was shattered the next day and didnt do alot but too say I’d been was amazing . Maybe it is time to cut your hours as you’ve proberly got too the stage it’s too much and with multi conditions it’s very hard, hope it works out xx
Hi Smiler69,I am so sorry to hear you are going through a flare, so so painful, I hope it passes soon.
I worked in Dentistry I was a Practice Manager, my nurses worked their socks off, they never sat down, they were worth their weight in gold! I know I couldn’t do my job now and had to take a early retirement in the end.
The only advice I can give is what I was given, pace yourself, talk to your manager, hopefully she will be able to help you, maybe do reception more?
Unfortunately things like this take me about a month to get "over" at the moment - meaning energy back "up" from 10% to 20%.
Seems most cope fairly well with Covid, I hope you do too, praps you saw the recent thread on this healthunlocked.com/fibromya....
Unfortunately no guarantees: due to immune system oversensitivity the jabs have put me off work long-term - since December, and the reason I'm getting them and still masking and distancing is due to Covid probably being even worse for me than the jabs....
To answer your question about work - we all have to decide, unless the decision is taken off us, like in my case fibro put me on sick leave for 10 months (I was working 48h on average before). I've never got beyond 15h/wk, if I did try (only possible in home office) it put me back on sick leave.
The one thing I've learnt is that it's time to not just care for others any more, to care for myself like you say. I doubt you'd let any one do that to themselves if you knew of it....?
And if you don't cut your hours, they may cut you, in away you'd never have imagined - I hope not, of course.
How to get a flare down? Mainly with 100% rest is my only chance, not the least overdoing it any more.
So 8 days on with Covid hope you're doing better...!
