Hi Amel43 - not an easy answer to give from the limited info you've given. Before considering moving onto UC it's always wise to seek local advice from here: advicelocal.uk/ choosing 'Welfare benefits' from the drop down menu.

Some people are better off on UC; others not, so it's important to look at this.

With a severe disability premium there is a transitional protection if moving from income related ESA, but this will erode over time. See here: turn2us.org.uk/Benefit-guid...

Hi I got moved to uc when I moved house 4 years ago I got sdp on old benefits system but lost it when moving over but then got a transitional payment which was £120 but they keep taking money of it my uc went up around £20 this month but they took it of my transitional payment its now down to £75 which is crazy and now I'm struggling as i used it to pay my carers for looking after me it didn't cover all carer cost I had to start with but now it's down to £75 that doesn't even cover half of what I have to pay out I'm demented with all the changes and costs I need to find I really think it should not have been allowed to touch that payment but they do so be careful as I'm much worse of now

As above, do get advice such as from advicelocal.uk/

However the advice just above is somewhat incorrect; if you were claiming a legacy benefit such as income related ESA, & no one gets Carer's Allowance for looking after you (nor the Carer's element with UC) then a transitional payment will apply unless you were claiming the SDP due to housing benefit. See: entitledto.co.uk/help/sever... for more info.

However, as above, this transitional payment will erode over time.
