Has anyone heard a rumour about PIP being changed to UC? 🥺I think I read it on this site. As far as I was aware PIP was not migrating to UC. It is all the old benefits that are means tested that are being changed over. Or, am I wrong. 🤔Please does anyone know. I would like to set my mind at rest. I know that there are changes coming, but I hope we on PIP are not going to UC.I hope everyone's as well as they can be. Take care my friends. Enjoy your evening.

Best wishes

Jax xxx 🙂🤗

I just looked it, yes no, yes no, wt?, I think reading some of it, pip, may be left alone for now, but a few others may be combined, I hope some one else knows more, sorry couldn’t help more.

Hi Jaxie, I can't say for definite but I very much doubt it would come under UC as PIP is not a means tested benefit, whereas UC and all other legacy benefits that are being replaced by UC are all means tested. Also, UC is about your capability to work and PIP is not about this so I can't see it coming under the same umbrella. I have heard that Labour are not going ahead with the Connie's plans of replacing PIP with a voucher scheme though and this was confirmed to by a local MP to someone who wrote to them, they posted the letter in the PIP group on Facebook. I hope that helps x

That's good to hear, about the voucher scheme and they are not going ahead with it.

Definitely put my mind at rest for now, but you know the government, you can't always trust them x

The gov.uk website states that it remains unchanged.

I have recently migrated to UC from the old legacy benefits. My PIP is completely separate to UC.

Hi, I am also in the process of migrating over to UC from legacy benefits and receive maximum PIP. Can you tell me how you are finding the process so far? TIA x

Hi, the whole process was pretty simple tbh. I waited for the letter from dwp for transition to make sure I kept the same money once I had moved over. I had transitional protection. Took 5 weeks from start to finish. 1st payment was lower than usual, but within 10 days they added the transitional protection money which was good. I provided fit notes from my very first appointment, and then had my Lcwra assessment within the first 3mths. I have been awarded full lcwra too though haven't received it on this month's payment as It was too late, so will receive it in next month's payment. It's pretty easy to keep track of using the online journal etc and I had video appointments so I didn't have to keep going in which was good too. Just remember to keep checking your journal for any updates as the email notification doesn't always come though! Good luck!

As far as I understand ALL Benefits are under review. If you look around you will see how many people have accessed all types of Benefit since Covid..& the number of people not working has ballooned making the Benefits Bill far too high.

So until there is an official Government announcement, we shall just have to wait & see.

And may I add to the slight different claims on those on ESA , the DWP have WRONGLY said people on this benefit should be attending an interview with a" work coach" this was illegal as many were then losing out a considerable amount of money, as they were then asking for fit to work certificates, only those claiming new benefits should be in the group where you were expected to attend.

For ESA claimants, it depends whether you were put in the Work Related Activity Group or the Support Group. Support Group claimants do not have to see a work coach as they have the most disabling conditions and are not expected to work again. Work Related Activity Group claimants are required to do so, as they are expected to return to work.

Thanks for clearing that up, I forgot to mention that 🫣

I get the contributions based ESA which is not means tested. I keep hearing that it will change to UC but have had no letters from DWP to say it is. If it does change I will get nothing as at the moment have too much savings, although that won't last long if I have to live on them. A few years ago paperwork and filling out forms didn't worry me but now I dread it and panic I have filled it in wrong.

No. It is Income Related ESA which is subsumed into Universal Credit. You will get New Style ESA which carries on being contribution based with no means testing. Full details here gov.uk/guidance/new-style-e...

No Jax, PIP is a none means tested benefit which can be claimed if you work or don't work. It's about the difficulty you face again that of an able bodied person. Never will it be categorised with UC.

I don't think it will be changed to U C as it's not mean tested.. take care 🙂

Thank you everyone for your replies. I did think ESA contribution/support group was exempt, but I wasn't absolutely sure. There is so much information going around. I hope everyone has a good day🤗 gentle hugs to all.
