New to fibromyalgia

Hi all I'm new here. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and saw a rheumatologist who prescribed a tablet called duloxetine used to treat anxiety but did nothing for pain. Did anyone else ever have this.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forums. You can find general information on fibromyalgia at our website fmauk.org and our patient information booklets at fmauk.org/publications

Duloxetine is one of the medications that can sometimes help people with fibromyalgia. However, medications don't always help, and it can be trial and error to find what works for you as an individual.

Hi Paniro I have been prescribed them 30mg 1X daily recommended to be taken at night before bed. For me they don't help with pain at all, however I do get heart palpitations the feeling as if my heart is going to jump out my body ( bit of a drama queen there ) lol but that's how it feels , the tablet did help with that not pain , also woke every morning with a headache according to my GP that is one off the side effects ? , unfortunately he did say it is trial and error with meds and fibo, hopefully your body perhaps will be OK with it, good luck

The absolute best thing I have ever done wrt pain is to give up diet coke and anything else with artificial sweeteners in. Might be worth a try?

Hi, i am new to this site still awaiting my diagnosis. I am new to duloxetine I started on 2x30mg a day they effected my mood terribly I felt suicidal, after speaking to my doctor I am now on 1 each morning however not much help with the pain and I feel so tired. I was also prescribed Amitriptyline they do help with both pain and sleep but I felt like a zombie, I have now gone back on to Temazepam to help with the sleeplessness.

Hello, yes I’ve been on this over 4 years and worked wonders for my anxiety ,doctors do seem to be using this to help fibro patients I am guessing depending on what dose people are on how effective this works , differently trial and error along the way x

Thanks for your reply. The thing is I dont suffer with anxiety so not getting any benefit from this tablet whatsoever. Rang my consultant a few days ago still waiting for a response from him. So having a brutal morning with head neck and shoulder pain. Took 2 nurofen hope for the best🙈

Hello again so I am guessing the rheumatologist might have gone down the route of trying duloxtene which I think is supposed to help with nerve endings for fibro patients I read somewhere not sure what else apart from anxiety, think it has a relaxant which I relate to calming down anxiety. Hope today is alittle easier pain wise. X
