Duloxetine

Took my first dose last night at about 9 ish; felt a bit nauseous during the night, and struggled to wake this morning - it was 9am 😂😂. And I feel a little bit not quite with it this morning! I’m hoping those things iron themselves out? My issue is that I go back to work tomorrow, so I’m thinking of taking my tablet at teatime tonight - any thoughts/opinions?

Hi I have been on them for years but never had issue with struggling to stay awake they usually give the opposite affect my doctor first give me all my dose in one go but to counter the side affects I was having I started to take one 4 times a day it helped me settle with them but they do normally take a few weeks to settle in I told my bosses at work and stayed on flex hours for a week then I had to take 2 weeks off when I went back decided to reduce my hour cause it became to much for me pip allowed me to keep my finances in order it might be worth while seeing if they will allow flexi hours for a short time at work or change shift patterns if possible but you should be on reduced hours while changing med anyway I would speak to occupational health if your work has one if not speak to your doctor to give a fit note with reduced hours to allow meds to settle in

see my comment on your other post re the same subject. It took me at least a month to work through most of the side effects - the tiredness in the morning took me a couple of weeks I think when I was taking them at about 7pm - this is why I now take them mid morning.

Thankyou - I did see your other reply; I feel that GP has possibly started me on a dosage that’s too high to start with; she also says to take them in the evening. I’m looking through all the comments I’ve had with a plan to go back to her and ask for lower dosage 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

HiI have been taking Duloxetine for about 6 months, started on 20mg then 40mg, currently on 60mg. My GP advised me to take them mid morning, which I have done and its been ok. When I first started them I felt sick for the first week, all good now though. This is the only thing that has helped with my nerve pain.

Hi I take 120mg in the morning with 300mg of pregablin. The rheumatologist advised taking both together about 15 years ago and must say I haven't looked back! You will settle down takes time to work through your system we all tolerate things differently but if you're concerned talk to your GP again. Hope you find something that suits you and works though. Peace and love ✌💕

I’ve been on them for back pain for years… I take 20mg in morning and 20mg at bedtime… I’m pretty sure it took me about 2 weeks to get used to them but if your feeling they are really knocking the hell out you go back to your doctor… maybe they can recommend how best to take them or alter your dose or perhaps change them… I was on another one first that did not agree with me xxx hope this helps x

Hello, I’ve heard mixed results and side effects of Duloxatine. Seemingly those people who can get through the side effects do get a good result from taking them. I on the other hand tried to stay on them for several months but consistently suffered from side effects - nausea, actual sickness bouts, fatigue and then migraines which were the worse side effect. Eventually I had to give up. Good luck with them as I believe that they can be successful in reducing pain.

I am now on Cipramol (antidepressants) which have given me respite from my Fibromyalgia with no side effects.

Hi I have been on them now for over 2 years 30mg morning and 30mg at night, really helped me as when I tried to come off them by slowly cutting back, with doctors advice I was in agony so I would look at when you take them and give your body a chance to get used to the medication.Good luck 🤞

I’ve shared about never starting it. Even if you had had no reaction(s) now, it could come at any time later: in days, in weeks, even in years. The fact that you did react immediately would be enough for me to say “NO.” You have only a short time before you’re “hooked” so to speak, and beyond that you’ll need to start a long and involved taper/withdrawal. What strength were you given? My taper started at 30mg … Migraines were one of the side effects that I no longer have after years of treatment under the care of a neurosurgeon. Many negative side effects creep in along the way, and you don’t realize at their onset that it’s the med itself causing them.

I know how it is to long for an answer in a simple capsule ….. but (personally speaking), that rarely happens.

Hi there,

I’m really interested in your experience with Duloxetine as I’ve been on them 3yrs at 120mg. At the beginning they were a lifesaver but now I feel worse than I ever did. Were you able to come off them successfully? I’ve been reading really scary stuff about long-term damage and I’m trying to find out what people with Fibro have experienced

I didn’t take them in the end - decided with GP that meds for fibro are prob not the route for me at the moment 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Hi there

I had similar side effects, I am on 30mg three times a day now but started on one then two then three When I first started on them for 2 weeks I was really sleepy and kept falling asleep it settled after 3 weeks then when the dose increased the same thing happened and the third time as well. Each person is different as it doesn't affect some people. I am medically retired now but there would have been no way I would have been going to work eg driving and working as a nurse until I had got used to the medication. I only drive short distances but for the few weeks it was affecting me I didn't drive at all.

Need to just persevere xxxx

I think try and take them earlier or some people take them in the morning, it’s really getting used to the tablet and what suits you personally, I do take mine before bedtime, i am on one tablet of 60mg so just having to do my dose once a day, I wake up tired anyway but differently settled on this tablet, it can take a few days to settle I read , if uve any concerns after a few days ring your GP for advice for a piece of mind.
