No matter how comfortable shoes are when I try them on they become uncomfortable and often painful to wear after I’ve had them on a short time. The only relief I have is when I sit and put my feet up but I don’t want to be stuck in my chair all day!! I am male and 67 so I’ve done a few miles and have peripheral neuropathy issues in my hands and feet. I prefer sandals in hot weather but the footbed in mine is too hard and uncomfortable (thick socks help but that’s never a good look!!!!!).
I try to get exercise as much as I can and massage my feet taking particular care on hygiene and keeping my feet dry. Any advice would be great. Thanks in advance
Hi. I found sketchers go walk arch fit sandals, which are amazing. £60 is pricey but I can wear them all day and walk without my legs feeling heavy. I think they are amazing. I hope you find something. You probably need a soft thick sole rather than a hard one
Thanks Claire. I’ve looked at them and the cosyfeet site looks good. I’m wary of internet shopping as I like to try shoes on before buying! If my trip to town draws a blank I may come back to the cosyfeet site!
Cosy Feet are very good at taking back returns, without time restriction...I order lots and perhaps only keep one pair. Expensive to start with, tho refunds are quick, but means I can try shoes on with different socks, at different times of day/weather etc. I get nhs insoles for fallen arches to help with knee etc pain, that fit in many Cosy Feet shoes/boots.
Skethers all the way. I am on my feet for 4 hours solid every day at work and they are the only things i can wear. I have only had trainers up till now but just bought sandals.
Hi, I know where you are coming from with foot pain! I can walk for miles with no or little pain but as soon as I stop & sit down then get up again the pain is like nails in my feet then I stagger around in agony until it resolves itself. I find sketchers of any description definitely help, trainers give you the soft support you need & the summer sandals are great for comfort whilst allowing your feet to breathe.Good luck on your quest to find something comfortable to wear!
Try extra-wide fitting velcro fastening bedroom slippers with sheepskin insoles. I wear them night and day inside the house and outside. It doesn't matter what people think. If they ease your pain and suffering....that's what matters.

Thanks for your help. I might resort to your idea if I get no further
I've recently bought 2 pairs of Hotter trainers, they look fabulous and I'm very fashion conscious. The most comfortable and supportive, stylish footwear. People have actually asked me where did I buy them!
I only wear Nike Run Free 5.0 running trainers and have done for many years now. They have a soft rubber hexagon sole pattern with a fabric upper so everything moves comfortably with your feet; and they are very lightweight. It is like an extension of your feet.
In summer I find RipCurl flip flops is the best thing until they become impacted and I just buy another pair.
I only ever buy these two styles of footwear. I have not purchased any other footwear in the last 10 years due to my foot pain.
I also use BetterYou Original Magnesium Oil Spray on my feet when things are really bad.
I take Amitriptyline 20mg a night and this is the only drug I have tried which reduces the pain enough in my feet (and hands) to sleep at night.
I’ve done this search too. I find rotating between different shoes helps. Birkenstock’s really suit me in the summer - Can walk for miles in them. Nike running shoes are also good. I have the run flex ones I think. It really depends on your gait and arch.
I have been shopping today and have come home with a pair of Karrimor closed sandals with a soft(ish) contoured footbed, a pair of Skechers memory foam insole trainers and a pair of Brooks running shoes. The last pair came from a specialist running shop where the manager looked closely at my feet paying attention to my insteps and how I stand. He also watched me walk and then I tried some different shoes and one pair felt really good. I hope they continue to be good. I particularly liked that they made me more stable and I felt safe wearing them. Thanks everyone for your help oh and I have tried crocs but they won’t stay on my feet!
