Pip assessment

Hi everyone 😊

I have just received a copy of my pip assessment. There are parts of it I am not too happy with as I feel it doesn’t reflect what I actually said. However according to the assessors report and what he has wrote and ticked. I have checked and it says I should be entitled to standard daily living rate and enhanced mobility rate.

Are these normally accurate?

Some of the PIP reports are very strange as though they were talking about a different person. I got points for sections I never expected to and no points in sections where I felt had the greatest need. Strangely overall I got the nos of points that I felt I was entitled to so was happy with the decision.

If you are happy with your award I personally wouldn't query it as if you do it will be looked at again by a different assessor who could come to a less favourable conclusion.

Thanks for your reply. I will just leave it for now then and hopefully its ok. I haven't been awarded yet that was just going off the copy of the assessors report. Do they ever go against assessors marking?

Someone else higher up looks it over but how carefully seems to vary. They can take it down but also up. If you aren't awarded what you think you should have you can ask for a Mandatory Consideration. With this you have to concentrate on the sections where you think you should have scored points but haven't and state the reasons why.

If all else fails you can go to a tribunal where a panel will decide your award. Some years back my husband was awarded zero points for his ESA and at the tribunal he was given 18 and an apology from the judge.

Hi if you have the report from your assessment that you are entitled to. Then I would go over what you think is wrong highlight it copy it and send it straight back. Also a letter from you G.P. stating that you will not improve as you have fibro and send that in to this will help. I know because that is what I did. Hope this helps xx

Thank you i will get it all together. I just signed for them to access my medical records because i didn't want to be asking doctor and that for all kinds as i am already constantly on over changes of medication etc ha. Its such a nightmare isnt it. My physio did say yesterday though she has had to appeal a few times for people. So i will get prepared.x

My hubby had phone pips interview and it was totally misinterprettated and he got nothing for living allowance even though he has epilepsy and Parkinson’s. We have sent our response to this but had no reply from them yet, and this is now eight weeks on

It is really poor isn't it. I spoke to my physio about it and she said they see it so much. She doesn't understand the questions they ask and who they get to do these assessments. For instance i told him i cant get a bath through fear of getting stuck as well as pain and he's wrote that i can sit on the side and lift one leg over at a time ??? My physio was like what has he said that for. Apparently as well just because i don't take anti depressants my mood is not low and i didn't present a low mood. I was in tears saying how i struggle with the reality that i cant look after my children like i used to among other things. He asked me if i had spoken to GP about depression. I said no i have done the occupational therapist but i said am not depressed am just frustrated and upset by the whole situation take all this away and i wouldn't feel like that. She said i am grieving for the things i am unable to do and it is totally normal, low mood and my medical conditions go hand in hand. But he has wrote i am fine because am not on medication for depression.

Then the best one is the going out. He has marked me high for disability saying it makes sense that i wouldn't be able to walk more than 20 meters so i have scored 12 there. But i told him prior to that i have a fear of going out at the thought of the pain that i get when i do and i would never go out alone anymore due to not knowing when or how the pain would effect me, which i would say is a form of anxiety yet he's put my mobility issues are all physical and not mental.

I will get it all prepared and see what they come back with. I have signed for them to access my medical files so they can always check that too.

Thank you everyone for your advice. So glad of this site.x

The depression answer for us was rejected because hubby is not medicated for this. We got nothing for food prep even though he can’t prepare food forfear of fit or shaking . We only got awarded just 6 points for whole assessment I have always said they get bonus for all they give nothing to.

Wouldn't surprise me one little bit you know. Let me know how you get on with appeal. I will keep fingers crossed for you both.x

Yes so many people who had no history of low mood ha e had it since getting fibro as the pain and fatigue makes life so difficult and uncertain. I can't take antidepressants as each one I different ways makes me feel very ill with the side effects. I have always said they should walk a week in our shoes and they would soon change their minds.

Are you saying the DWP are asking for your medical records after you had a health assessment and before you submitted a request for an MR. That is very unusuall

mattjoachim profile image
mattjoachim in reply to Lj0903

They can write to your GP and do not need your permission as when you fill in the form to apply for PIP and put your GPs name on form that is automatically given them permission to request further information about your medical conditions if they need to

Do give them a quick phone call to make sure it has been received. Some regjins are very behind but better to be sure. Hope he gets it this benefit system is so unfair.

Actually, if that is your first claim then well done!

PIP assessors can be good or bad; with some, their assessment is so far off the mark its like they are talking about somebody else!

So you have been given higher rate Mobility, that is good; it automatically gets you a Blue Badge for parking and use of bays near a store entrance. It also means you can get a Motability car or scooter.

On the daily living part, were you expecting high rate? It depends on whether you can bathe yourself, cook for yourself, do housework, plan your day, organise your medications and things like that, or if you need a carer to help you do these things. Occupational Therapy can help with aids, such as perching stools in kitchens, so you can work there, kettle tippers, etc. In bathrooms do you need a Wheelchair shower, or could you manage in the bath with an aid to get in and out? Wet rooms are also a possibility. Stairlifts can help too. if your house is suitable, also there are Through Floor lifts, although I don't like them much, think they can be dangerous if you have small children or pets.

I don't get Mobility; it would be good, but I was just too old by a few weeks! I get High Care, and have Shower stool, perching Stool, and the bungalow has a wheelchair shower, which I want changing to a Wet Room. I'm still on DLA, and don't want to rock the boat, as nothing will change unless there is a big change to my condition.

Hope all this is of some help.

Cheers, Midori

Sadly no, I didn't have any fight left in me. Only we know how much fibro affects our life but I was just too honest.
