Video pip assessment

I got a text message yesterday saying that my pip assessment was next Monday morning and it will be video assessment. They sent a test link for me to try but it comes up with a message saying that the link has been typed incorrectly, which it hasn't.

I'm already getting stressed about the assessment without the test link not working.

Please help with some advice both about the link and the assessment. Thanks 🀯

I have had many of these so don't worry, 1. In the link it should have a "TEST" connection this will dial the assessment office to test that your computer and there's will connect. Some of the links will only connect on the day, similar to the Zoom meetings with the Tribunal Service. If you can't connect then ring the number on the top and they will take you through the process. Once the link is made you can see the operator and on the day they suggest you log in about 1/2 hour before where you will have the same connection which will go blank on your screen until the assessment is about to begin where you will be asked can you see and hear every one and assuming that the mics and screen are connected it will begin. Just be your self and have some questions you may want to ask or write down what is wrong with you and as each is asked about you can state who treats you and where you are with that, or at the end ask if they have a copy of your script as the tablets your taking and strength alter what is happening to you and help you function

Thanks, that's very helpful. Whether I'll be able to stay calm is a different matter as I have mental health problems as well.

Also, I don't have a computer, just my mobile phone. Will that work?

Yes you can have a phone interview, you just need to mention this before and it may require a different link, depending on your phone which you can prop up so that it is steady and if there is anyone with you which I always recommend they can see the screen as well.

Just be your self and have a friend or family member with you if you can? Its easier, but not really necessary, they are their to support you should you feel stressed and can't answer they will prompt you if you forget to mention something. Just write out your symptoms and have a copy of your prescription list with you, and if you can, but again not necessary write down what they do, and if there is a change in the script due or has just happened.

Hey, yeah I agree call the assessment centre and they will send another link. Also during the assessment think about your worse days. If you have a flare up before then note down everything and then answer the questions with that in mind. They try to trick you a little in these assessment. Wish you all the best x

My telephone interview took over an hour, & 40 minutes, so make sure you have drinks ect... beside you.

Write down a list of medication you're on (especially if it has changed since you filled in your original form).

Take a little time before & make a list of any points you want to get across, as it's very easy to forget when your asked so many questions. Sometimes the little things make a big difference.

I also asked for my interview to be recorded too, which you now have the right to do & I was sent a copy of this. They will not offer to do it & only will when asked.

Take care & good luck xoxo

If you an have a mobile there to record the conversation both ways if you can. That way they can't accuse you of saying something different. No special technology needed just voice record if you can. Good luck. X

Be careful about recording them as this is covert and not admissible as evidence as it is illegal based on the human rights act. You can ask if you can record it, and have a right to ask for a copy of the interview but need to let them know before so they can put in the DVD recording equipment, one copy for you and one for the DWP. If you covertly record it, they you could be prosecuted, and they are always obliging if you ask for it to be recorded. I may be a worry wart but I would not like to see you get into trouble and I am very aware of the law.

Thanks for that advice, I did wonder whether it was allowed or not.

You will find that you are unable to go onto the link before the time and day it states. I have done a few at my palative care unit which I know may not be the same but feel better as you are talking face to face with the person.Good luck.

My Mother suffered terribly with Osteoarthritis, every time she went to a Dr. they would ask how she was today and she would say, " Oh not too bad Dr. could be worse". I would say, "Why did you say that Mum? why didn't you say well actually Dr. I'm in agony most of the time and my children have to run themselves ragged doing everything for me!" My advice?

Don't be my Mum!

Hi, give them a ring. It may be that you can only access the link on the day. I've not had a video assessment for pip but have with the neurologist and the link to the waiting room only activated on the morning of the appointment and I sat in cyber space till the consultant came on line for the appointment. It came up like a video call on your phone and I pressed accept which got me through. I'd expect it is the same as a face to face, just be honest throughout and there's nothing to worry about. Just remember to stress that problems occur on the majority days per week. Hope this helps, hugs and kind thoughts. Jan
