Any ideas to help anxiety. My sleep is terrible and I wake up early morning so anxious. My daughter has had cancer for 8 plus years and is travelling to England from Northern Ireland for an operation, I can't go with her because of Covid and she will probably be there for 4 weeks. I am so worried about her. I don't know how to get on top of the anxiety without sedating myself as I need to drive. Any ideas would be very welcome.

Sorry to hear things are so tough - must be very worrying having your daughter going through that. I’d suggest you contact your GP and ask for some counselling or similar. There are also some good resources on the web, have a look at some of the info and worksheets here: cci.health.wa.gov.au/Resour...

Weighted blankets are also supposed to aid restful sleep and assist with anxiety, if you want to try one of those. Wishing you well x

With Covid going on I think we have all been reluctant to contact our GPS, but I will. Thank you for your advice.

as a mum myself, I can understand the extra stress your daughter having to travel to England for surgery must be, and hope all goes well for her.

Mindfulness and meditation/relaxation techniques is mainly how i control my anxiety these days; but i have also had counselling and cbt to help me learn ways to manage it. While this won;t help your immediate anxiety - it may help you to learn to manage it better for future situations. xxx

Hello Izzykirk. Of course you are anxious - it would be odd if you weren’t. I always think I can cope with my own illness far better than I cope if one of my family are sick.

But we are so lucky now with all the technology. You can be by her side (remotely) most of the time. So you will know what is happening. And be able to comfort her.

She needs the specialist treatment here. Be glad it is available and she is getting it. What I try to do is - stress the positives. Focus on the future when she will be on the road to recovery.

Stay strong - your daughter needs your support. Make plans for good times together in the future.

Sending you my very best wishes.

Xxx
