Could this be fibromyalgia?!

I don’t know what to do, i have been poorly for months now since January. I am a 20 year old girl and i am scared for my health. All of a sudden i got chest pain one day, completely out of nowhere and since that day i have been ill with heart palpitations, chest pain, pain everywhere in my arms, feet, face, neck, jaw, head, headaches everyday going near my eyes and temple, feeling breathless, anxiety is really bad, eyesight problems like loads of floaters and flashing lights. Needing the toilet about 6 times a day for a poo, stomach cramps, diarrhoea, voices in my head, really itchy, theres just so much to name. I have been to the docs and bloodtests have came back okay on everything apart from my b12 and b9 which were low and a slightly abnormal thyroid. I know many of the symptoms aren’t fibromyalgia but some of them are. I wake up everyday with heart palpitations. I have had to get the ambulance out so many times because i think it was something really serious. Its left me so mentally unwell as well :(

No such thing as " a slightly abnormal thyroid" it either is or isn't. Get hold of your results and post on Thyroiduk for advice.

There is, the results were slightly abnormal but not fully. It showed signs of under active and overactive

Sorry but if the results are abnormal there is a problem, autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimoto) can make the thyroid swing from under to over but only one at a time, you can't be both. Thyroiduk will help you with advice.

Hi Jirachi, I am sorry your suffering so badly. My personal opinion for what its worth. To me you sound like your having panic attacks.

I really think you need to go back and speak with your doctor and get expert advice. If your concerened or dont understand any test results your GP is the person to to talk to.

I've had almost identical symptoms to jirachi and currently investigating the possibility of hashimoto's and abnormal thyroid, along with low b12 and iron.... jirachi you know and I know they are NOT panic attacks there is something more to this... and remember even when diagnosed these deficiency take time to rectify sometimes months keep working through them one at a time. Dont overwhelm yourself... make a list in order of diagnosis, research about each possible deficiency and make a checklist... you'll soon find out what is causing it. I know for my symptoms I've had an iron infusion privately because quite frankly the gp wasnt nudging and the nhs iron test is rubbish, I've also then moved on to b12, b12 cane back low, so treating that, diet cutting gluten out makes a huge difference and check your d3 levels... also jirachi make sure you look into private thyroid for a more accurate full panel and go from there. I'm here if you need me x

Hi there, I am not sure how you I or anyone would know if this member was having panic attacks or not. I was giving a personal opinion based on the information provided. And I really did not care for your tone towards me it was uncalled for.

Like I said before the young lady should be talking to her GP and taking advice from someone who is medicaly qualified.

Because something sounds similar to what another person is suffering with does not mean they have the same problems.

We run a very friendly group here and respect others opinions by replying in a respectful manner.

Very good advice. So many things are put down to anxiety or panic attacks when in actual fact they have very real physiological manifestations eg, thyroid, POTs, lupus, SVT to name a few. Panic attacks and anxiety should only be considered when all other medical causes have been ruled out. I applaude your reply.

Likely not relevant to this post, but newly onset psychiatric/psychological problems always manifestate in physical symptoms. If your doctor considers neurobiological or psychological involvement only when "all other medical causes have been ruled out" then it is time to change doctor.

With great respect, I don’t agree that psychological problems will affect B12 levels. A malfunctioning Thyroid will however and will cause other issues that can be mistaken for mental health issues. I have never forgotten, during my early training, that taking the pulse of a patient during sleep or first thing on waking, will give a true indication of a thyroid related fast heart rate compared to that of anxiety/panic which is usually in response to an external stimuli. I absolutely believe there is a strong connection between physical and mental well being, but believe that too often underlying physical problems are written off as being ‘all in the head’. 😊

As you already stated "there is a strong connection between physical and mental well being" and since there is no evidence that anyone who participated in this thread has claimed all problems are caused by what's ‘all in the head’ (by the way, that's not how mental health care works, and panic attack is a very common response to deep distress that can be caused by both physical and psychological factors), please clarify what point you are trying to make here?

Your symptoms sound very similar to those found with Grave’s disease, which is a thyroid disorder. My son’s partner has this and it took more detailed thyroid tests to properly diagnose as her thyroid levels would either be high or low in the early days. The palpations, especially on waking, are a symptom she experienced. Thankfully her condition is now stabilised with the appropriate medication under the care of the endocrinologist. She was diagnosed in her twenties and it does seem to affect younger women more. I’m not suggesting this what you have but it would be worth asking for a proper thyroid function test if only to rule it out. Good luck with getting a proper and accurate diagnosis.

Hi Jitachi, I know you feel very scared because you don't know what's wrong. The solution is to seek medical advice from a licensed physician who can examine you in person and order additional tests. None of us on the forum can possibly give you the correct answer or advice because we haven't even met you in person. Feel free to vent here but your doctor will be the person whom you can get immediate support and help from. Stay calm and know that things will get better.

Hi Jirachi, Sounds like Costochondritis.

Definitely follow up with your doctor.

I wouldn't have thought thyroid problems would cause "voices in your head"? Has anyone looked into this particular symptom, how bad is it, is there any history of schizophrenia in your family? You need to write all your symptoms done and see a GP again, preferably go with someone else too. Doctors tend to be more careful if you have company.

Hi, I also wondered about the voices in head. No idea if that is a thyroid related symptom or notto be honest. But im sure someone will let me know 😊 xx

Yes People seem to forget it is very possible and indeed likely to have physical problems and mental problems at the same time with one aggravating the other in continuous vicious cycles. I mean what kind of person wouldn't be mentally distressed when having unexplained physical symptoms?

Hi Jirachi, has you can see there is a varied number of possibilities to what your dealing with. Anything from panic attack, thyroid, chostiochdritis and even schizophrenia.

When someone gives an opinion you will normally get a reply to question based on his or her own personal experiences. It does not mean you have any of them. This is why it is so important to always seek qualified medical advice.

I would like to make one suggestion if I may. If you are hearing voices in your head on a daily basis please call 111 now and ask for advice xx

Turning off comments. There has been a range of speculation. S had been advised there is a need to speak to a health professional especially as there are a number of things that do not relate to fibro.

Speculation on psychological diagnosis of not something that is sensible to conduct on an open forum.
