Diastolic Dysfunction

I have now been diagnosed with a heart condition called Diastolic Dysfunction . I have had the diagnosis after an Echocardiagram as I have swollen feet and ankles as well as being very out of breath on the slightest exertion. I am still in a lot of muscular pain but have not been actually diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, although I have been going to the surgery with the classic Fibro symptoms for some years and they say it might be. I had PMR for 2 years about 4 years ago and am familiar with those symptoms so I know that these symptoms are different. I wondered if anyone has come across this heart condition with their Fibro symptoms?

Hi - sorry to hear this. Guessing from the lack of replies that this isn’t something many of the community have.

I wonder if you might get more replies by joining a heart related group on HealthUnlocked?

Wishing you well x

I have diagnoses for fibromyalgia, insulin dependent diabetes and hypothyroidism and since last May seem to have developed resistant hypertension ie high blood pressure that doesn’t go down despite 5 different bp drugs, plus breathlessness when doing daily tasks. Seems to be DIY at GPs at the moment (blood tests only, and phone calls from receptionist).I bought a oxygen meter with pulse reading and found pulse goes up just with getting dressed etc to 135, and oxygen at night can be 70%. So asked for referral to sleep ( apnoea) clinic, but with over 10 months waiting list to even get an appointment, privately ordered a testing machine from charity. No offer of heart monitoring in surgery etc...but that might be my next line. It’s my systolic rather than diastolic that goes ape; high blood pressure and atrial fibrillation can be associated with thyroid problems, as can be water retention/swelling, but also due to low mineral/ vitamin levels. If you want help to feel in control of your own health might be worth getting private blood test thru a firm like Medichecks, to rule such things out. Rheumatologists frequently diagnose fibromyalgia, but seems from this forum more GPs doing it after ruling out everything else from bloods and scans!
