I JUST started having symtoms 6 months ago. I have read alot now and posts here and am very scared. How is going to the dentist affect you? I go IN a few days. I have an abcess inside my gum. They have to make a small Incision in the front under lip and clean it out, then a couple stitches.. Very nervous about this and how it is gonna effect Fibromyalgia and pain. Anyone with dentist experience?

I know it’s easy for me to say but the best thing to do is to stay calm. Raising anxiety levels seems to trigger fibro symptoms, I’ve found. Try this: sit or lie somewhere you’re comfortable, close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. With each out breath count down from 10 to one. This focuses your mind and is calming. Try this a few times. Then do the same again but visualise walking into the dentist calmly, sitting in the chair calmly and relaxing while the dentist does their job. You just disassociate yourself—- she/he does their job and at the end you’re going to smile, say thank you and walk away. Then concentrate on relaxing at home.

I did this all through an emergency hospital trip a few months ago which involved Covid test, wait for results, 2 transfusions, camera down throat, another transfusion. No fibro flare and I was just a bit tired for a while because of the iron loss I’d had.

You’ve got this —— take control of it and I’m sure you can keep any anxiety at bay.

Great fit

Greatfull! will start practicing now. Your advice really has been hope to get threw this. Thank u sooo much.

Hi Enos

Firstly don’t be scared just before COVID I had a filling, take pain killers before you go and when done take again, a warm compress on your face will help I suffer with chronic trigeminal neuralgia so obviously we still need to keep our teeth in shape so we need to visit the dentist, I just do the above and any pain will pass.

I know it’s hard try to be calm so you are not worked up prior to your appointment and try and relax, breathing exercises. Honestly it’s never as bad as the images we are conjuring up in our heads.
