There has been quite a bit of research into what is the root cause of fibro. There seems to be quite a bit of support that it can seem to run through some families making them think in quite a few cases it is a gene that have caused the problem but at the moment they haven't isolated a specific gene that causes it.

May I answer that!

Some scientists believe it’s genetic including socioeconomic factors, not that it makes any difference to me but I’d like to see a cure for it as this illness is a silent killer. Some medical profession believe they are close to piloting a blood test ...

There has been some research in this field but most of it is observational. The current thought is that there could be a risk factor that runs in families hence the genetic component but there is an environmental trigger.

My fibro is pretty bad, constantly, since a year. I have no relations with it at all, however 2 with rheumatism. As I read the research the hereditary component is like the trauma-component: fits for some...

I often describe it as a risk factor in this sort of conversation. Add the environmental component then it would explain why there is the mix and match.

I was reading about this, they now are saying that arthritis can also be caused by childhood trauma and abuse.. it is often brought up in FM.

My son is showing signs such as condochondritis, although he does have hyperextension in knees and shoulders, so I could be wrong.

Cheers, Midori

I come from a large family 7 siblings and none have fibro or CFS but me. I have had it for over 30 years. No idea if its hereditary or not. All I know it's never impacted on my family thank goodness.

Hi Bonny12346

We certainly need more research on if it’s genetic were have a family history of wonky genes in our family some life threatening.

My daughter was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia bless her I could see the symptoms happening but couldn’t say as I am not medically trained she’s blamed me for ruining her life by passing it on her rheumatologist said it’s passed on through me.

I am heart broken she’s not talking anymore fibromyalgia ruins our lives but family relationships as we.
