there are a number of drugs that used together can cause (in rare cases) serotonin syndrome. But the risk has to be evaluated on an individual basis Speak to your GP if you have concerns and make yourself aware of the symptoms if you want to put your mind at rest.

Yeah that is what I seen when I read it . the doc says it’s ok to use together but serotonin syndrome scares the life out of me thanks for replying.

but it is a very rare event and has warning symptoms so if your doctor thinks it is the correct course of action I would follow it.

Hi Boombod

I take citalopram and Amitriptyline together and have not had any problems been on them both for over a year.

Ok thanks glad someone else takes the same I thought why would she give me 2 antidepressants x

in reply to Boombod

I take the Amitriptyline to help me sleep and also to relax my muscles I was currently surviving on about 2-3 hours sleep a night and as we all know you cannot carry on and function with very little sleep and trust me I tried everything to sleep but now I get between 7-8 hours which is so much better.

Don’t get me wrong I still suffer terrible fatigue during the day (have just woken up after a 2 hour nap lol) but I can handle the fatigue better and even life not so snappy lol x

Yeah that’s what I need for sleep and to relax my muscles and escitalopram helps with anxiety let’s hope this works just didn’t realize u could take both x

in reply to Boombod

I know when I was first prescribed them one pharmacist said you need to tell your doctor you can’t take these together and printed my medication off to give to my GP, I said I have been taking the two meds along with the others for over 6 months (this was a while ago) and I have suffered no adverse reaction to them.

I think someone previously mentioned an adverse reaction is very rare which is exactly what my GP said, but it was nice to know and reassuring that he was checking prescriptions.

Why what ?

Taken two anti depressants

in reply to BassimAlkhanchi

Although they may be classed as antidepressants they also help with nerve pain and Amitriptyline is given for sleep and to relax muscles they are not purely used under the umbrella of a antidepressant 🐼

Why am I taking 2 ? One helps with anxiety but not with nerve pain and amytriptyline is suppose to help with nerve pain so both together should help
