Can anyone help please as I don't know where to start. I need to get another hand rail put up the stairs as currently I'm crawling up there. Does anyone know where I can get help.

Hi there, you need to apply for a home needs assessment. You can self refer for this. The link below may help you :)

Yeh, you need a visit from an Occupational Health Therapist(OHT), start making a list of anything and everything you think you need assistance with; they should be able to help. Don't know if your GP could refer you. I was having difficulty getting in and out of my bath(fear of falling too), the OHT visited and not only did I have a shower cubical fitted but a stair-lift too, they had to give me access to the shower, mental! This was ages ago though(15 years), funding has probably been slashed since then.

Dizzytwo's link will prob. be just as useful, just another rout should you require.

Stay safe, keep well and be strong.

I got in touch with social services, they then came and had a look at what I needed. It takes quite a while, but worth the wait. I had a rail on my stairs, and some in my bathroom.

I rang adult social services they sent an OT out she was so good I had another hand rail fitted one week later a downstairs loo and a walk-in shower with hand rails and seat and raised toilet seats and a perching stool for the kitchen when I wash up as I can’t stand well worth calling them .

Did you have to pay for all that yourself and where did they put the shower and loo

It didn’t cost me anything they took the bath out and put in a walk in shower and put a downstairs toilet in my utility room

Thank you for the info. Might need to look into this as we only have a bath at moment, but we have a problem as regarding somewhere to site a downstairs loo, which I think we are going to need, so will probably be a big job. Thought it might be means tested as so many things are and not simply assessed by a persons needs or requirements.
