I'm the same as what Hazel_Angelstar has said. I do have a lot of back pain, but not necessarily when in contact with something.

yes, very annoying, as you can’t relax for long, I use a thin central cushion down my spine to help, stretching helps, also heavy physiotherapy and massage on the muscles around the shoulders and back, and posture, keeping the spine straight is important. have to sleep on my side. taking magnesium glycinate an hour before bed helps with the sleep.

Thanks for your reply. How long have you had it for? I cannot sit in the office,it gets unbearable after a few hours on the office chair even with lots of breaks. I saw neurologist who suggested that it could be fibromyalgia and dermatologist mentioned Notalgia Parasthetica.

Have you tried Amithryptyline/Northryptine or Gabapentin? I keep increasing Northryptyline dosage but it doesn't help.

I cannot sleep when I take Magnesium in the evening

What cushion do you use - a vertical one?

I use many different cushions depending on where I am, car, plane, couch, but always one that is small enough to fit in between my shoulder blades so that they are not taking the pressure. I actually don’t take any drugs apart from paracetamol, I decided 10 years ago when I was told it was fibro that I would try to find natural ways of dealing with it. so I changed my life style completely and although I have not cured myself, I have reduced the effect considerably to the point where I live a relatively normal life for a 71 year old man. I adopted a multi disciplinary approach and, in the main it has worked for me, including meditating, breathing oxygen under pressure which got rid of the brain fog and fatigue, exercise and stretching, which keeps the pain and stiffness at bay, and many supplements to help the body function normally, diet mainly organic paleo with some organic meat, cut out chemicals in everything, food, house cleaning products shampoo skin products, everything!

I use a grounding sheet on my bed, And I go to a good Chinese doctor for acupuncture weekly and take herbs every day. so it’s quite time consuming to find all these thing and try them to see if they work for you, but worth it as in the process I have managed to clear up quite a lot of the problems and got rid of my arthritis too. I guess everyone has to find their own path

Thanks so much for your reply. Could you send a picture of the cushion that you use? I bought a few but they don't seem to help because I still get burning pain when my upper back touches the cushion.

don’t seem to be able to get photo onto this, however I get some of them from my physio as they are latex and really soft and thick, will try to find the site for them

Thanks a lot, I bought 3 cushions online - lumbar support roll, full cushion and gel cushion - no help at all, my upper back just hurts when touches these cushions

I use a ball that has a name on it, so I can tell you about that, it is a ball that you can partially inflate and lie on to stretch different muscle groups in your back, called appi, appihealthgroup.com, quite soft as partially inflated which you choose the level.

it’ about 6-7 ins ball blown up, less when partially inflated

Pilates ball?

small one, partially deflated, laying on it with it placed on your spine helps to mobilise your spine, I find it helps my back. also have measured the cushions I use and it seems they may be too big for you, one that I like is the half moon memory foam cushion from medi paq, but I am a 6’2” man so size may not be appropriate. I have to say the most effective way of lessening the pain from sitting was always physio massage on the erector spinae and rhomboid muscles and up into the neck, every week until corona hit, now I am using a vibrator on those muscles to try and compensate.

Yes,I wake up with it throughout the night, anything that is in contact with the mattress is really painful. Xx

Thanks for your reply. Do you take any medications for it? How is it during the day (leaning on chair/sofa)?

Nothing at all during the day but like lady above I make a "nest" out of different shape support pillows,I also was recently prescribed a anti inflammatory called celecoxib which worked really well until my tummy started playing up as I am extremely sensitive to that type of drug, hope it helps Hun xxx

I stuck a latex mattress topper over the mattress which helped a bit as it is softer on the shoulder blades

I'm finding if I lay on my back when I try to move my thighs are in agony. It feels on fire or as if my skin is being stretched. If I lay on my side it hurts my hips more and also my shoulders head and neck ...

No winning position.

Diagnosed ME/CFS possibly 12 years ago, Polymyalgia plus Fibromyalgia 3 years ,steroids , only Fibro now, but pain much worse. What I eat makes a difference and resting a bit of a challenge as am carer for wonderful daughter with special needs 50 this year I am 80 next year but really fit!! only take Thyroxin but as soon as I take exercise, which keeps one HAPPY, I pay for it in spades. Very Anti drugs as they create side issues which behave like a wall of Dominoes. What a lot of opinions I have!!All the best to all of you
