any suggestion for the eczema I have on my hands.
I'm not sure if you have posted on wrong group - you might get more responses if you post this question on a forum about eczema or skin conditions
Eczema is not generally considered a symptom of Fibromyalgia
Try this: Get yourself some cotton gloves at the pharmacy/chemist. Before you go to bed at night slather on a thick layer of petroleum jelly. It won't happen overnight, but this may do the trick if you're persistent.
Best.
Thanks, causing depression, trying to deal with too many health problems including fibromyalgia since many years. I will try petroleum jelly, even having a little relief is going to ease the pain I have.
Best.
Hi hulya,
Maybe taking care of the smaller, more manageable things will make it all less overwhelming. We can try sometimes.
I hope it helps.
Some people try oatmeal soaks and say it helps a lot. Just mix some rolled oats in a bowl of hot water into a thin slurry. Cool until it's comfortable, and rest your hands in there for a bit. The pharmacy has packets for oatmeal soaks, but they cost more and have more ingredients that can irritate your skin: perfumes, etc
Best right back atcha.
Hi, every single word helps, these sufferings not for a few months or years but for the life time. I will try oatmeal as well, good thing is I never loose my hope. Fibro . causing pain all over my body even fingers hands, becomes unbearable with the eczema. Mostly bleeding and discarding pus . Thank you again.
Keep safe.
Hey hulya,
I liked hearing back from you. I find talking to someone who understand a comfort too.
"Discarding pus"? You're not squeezing, are you? I think that can force poisons back into your body -- ask your doctor or a pharmacist!
I have one more idea. Didn't realize you were dealing with that awful pain all over your body. Are you anywhere near an Indian store? Pick up a big bag of turmeric there - their prices are good and usually they have a high turnover so it will be fresh. Then get some empty capsules - I get mine at the local Co-Op, but a compounding pharmacy should also carry these. Fill up the capsules (your fingers will turn orange, but that's not a disaster) and you're all set.
I have been very happy with turmeric's antiinflammatory properties, and it helps the pain. PLUS - if you like to cook, it's great for curries, and lots of other things. Look online and you'll find something you like. Or write me back, and I'll help you.
Hey, I found talking to the people who has the same health problems as me, comforts and ease the worrying I have, (empathy) much more then talking to the doctors.
Pus I had a few times mostly because of the wrong lotion prescribed and I have to do light house work, though machines does most of the work, still I have to wear gloves sometimes. House work is huge. (I feel like screaming sometimes.) I did squeeze a few times I had to, but should't.
I like curry and turmeric, I did not know it was anti inflammatory, going to try as well. Filling capsules could be after woods. Pain is murdering, mostly I sleep a couple of hours at night. (poor me)
I will let you know.
Cook with it if it hurts your hands filling the capsules.
Good luck. Let me know.
I am trying oat meal sometimes as well, I bought from the pharmacy, oat meal leaves slippery substance all over my hands, that protects skin cracking bleeding like a dry wood!!. I did try turmeric but irritated my stomach too much, I could not dare to have a go 2nd. time, but I must, when I feel brave.
Thanks ever so much, to all of you, for your time and caring for me.
Warm hug and love. xx
To try:
Saute one onion. (Buy pre-chopped if you like.) Add 1 tsp. turmeric, and stir for one minute in a bit of oil, butter, ghee, or whatever. Add a bit of ground coriander and cumin if you like. Stir in whatever appeals to you: fish, meat, poultry, vege. Or mix it up. Add a little water. Cover and steam. Sprinkle with some garam masala right before serving. Yum.
Serve over rice with a bit of plain yogurt.
This may stop your tummy boo-boos.
Huge help to ease the pain. Even ones a week , ( thats because I have to use another creem as well for the support,) wearing gloves and petroloum jelly. We have to use detergant to wash the bed sheets, hands are touching even more than day time, I am very careful with the powder I use as well. Thank you so much.
Low vitamin D?
Hi, I had Adcal vitamin D for a few months in the past, was very useful for the fibromyalgia which lasted only a couple of years. I can not remember whether it did make difference for the eczema, could be Thanks.
As you say the eczema is on your your hands, may be this means you are washing up or doing hand washing? This might be more of an allergy or dermatitis. <y aunt had an allergy to metal, which went undiagnosed for years. Metal allergy can have th effect of causing skin in other parts of the body. Ezcema may be helped by taking primrose oil every day. Try it for at least several months. It used to be on prescription but you can buy in in some German supermarkets in the UK online and in chemists. It can also be attributed to thyroid problems, so if you have not had tests for this, it may be worthwhile. Full tests include antigen tests which may not be screened for immediately on the NHS. Thyroid Uk on health unlocked is helpful.
Other information links gluten, to both fibromylagia and to thyroid disease. Gluten is tested for by the NHS but in many cases, the gluten test needs to be backed by other tests such as
dairy and egg which are part of food intolerances, labelled celiac disease. The gluten only have found to my regret as a single food intolerance is unreliable. Multi grain allergy is becoming more common and can include wheat( which has 27 different types of protein which can be allergens, rye, barley. Maize and corn and rice.
Yesterday I bought a pack of Walkers cheese and onion crisps. I though it had a mild flavouring added to it, but the list of additives included paprika, onion powder, whey protein,. It could be contaminated with gluten as the crisps are made in the same factory as wheat products. I tasted one and it tasted so artificial with flavourings gave it to hubby.
If you haven.t had basic tests for food intolerances with the NHS it might help you. I had mine done through an NHS linked pharmacy chain with hundreds of branches in the UK, which do a finger prick smart test of different food groups 64 in number. They do another test for enviromental tests, which may include alcoho,l ammonia, and other substances pollen etc. Taking antihistamines helps some food intolerances, but removing them alltogether can help tremendously. Articles written by Suzy Cohen a US pharmacist, I found interesting and an eye opener. suzycohen, com might bring her up for articles on thyroid intolerance. Other well known authors are Isabella Wentz another US pharmacist who has written numerous articles. Don't give up your quest as even though I am over seventy I have had the last three years with improved health. If you get a thyroid and food intolerance test done, ask for a blood print out with your vitamin levels including he B range, and vitamin D, ferritin levels. Thyroid unlocked can interpret thyroid tests and levels for you. Recent information shows that Epsom salt baths for your body and for your skin problems can help health. Someone from thyroid unlocked wrote in and said having Epsom salts in foot bath (washing up bowl( or normal bath has helped her for skin condition health. They contain magnesium sulphate, which can help muscle function, is antiviral and and antifungal. This is too long probably. I take an indigestion tablet containing magnesium. No need to reply.
Hey, Pots needs scraping (with metal scrabber) plates rinsed before putting in to the machine, I have no choice, otherwise they don't get washed properly. Yes, I wash may hands several times a day with soup, corona-19 ruined my hands even more. I want to try the suggestions one by one I have included the primrose as well.
I have been using creams lotions prescribed by the doctors, since 40 years, cruel!!! why wasn't I sent for the tests, don't know. I want to go for the full tests, Tyroid UK on the Health unlock , how do I get this done?
Yes pots need cleaning but wear some gloves when washing up. A friends daughter had eczema badly but improved with evening primrose oil, which you can buy online. After three months it had disappeared but she had to take it each day in case it came back.
If you live in the UK, you can get tests done through the pharmacy chain Alphega, which have branches linked to them all over the uk in villages and cities. They have a pharmacy linked map locator with icons. You click on the icons near you, and look for one that specialises in allergies. This might help with fibromyagia as well as eczema.
As it is your hands that are affected, as others have suggested something might be causing a reaction in washing powders or detergents, or
in metal scourers if they are used directly near the skin. Contact dermatitis may look a bit like eczema but is localised with contact with household chemicals. It might help to clarify the by comparing e images on of contact dermatitis and eczema. f you use a cream wearing cotton gloves, might help during the day and wearing rubber gloves when washing up may help your hands from contact with allergens. Some people are allergic to perfumes in soaps and in commercial products.
To get thyroid tests, you would go to your doctor normally but if you think you have any intolerance to gluten, then gluten is implicated in thyroid disease, so you should ask for a full test. Most tests are based on TSH, and thyroid immunoglobulins are not routinely tested. If you ask for thyroid tests at reception as well as vitamin tests such as vitamin D
B12 and iron levels, as well as tests for food intolerances, you may be able to explain to a nurse you need tests, to screen out anything that might be upsetting your health. Most doctors in the uk may not recognise gluten linked other autoimmune diseases, whereas they are recognised in America.
With autoimmune disease vitamin D is important so it can be supplemented if it is not at optimal levels. To join thyroidunlocked.uk log onto other communities linked to fibromyalgia or just log onto thyroidunlocked.co.uk to become a member. The administrators may look at your Thyroid tests, to see if they are normal and will suggest other tests if they are incomplete. You can look up posts on skin troubles which may be linked to thyroid problems
. Everyone is different with creams. Some people dont' get on with steroid creams like hydrocortisone, but there are other creams which work well .
I find Neutrogena creams formulated in Switzerland very helpful for feet and hand. Other suggestions for creams might be helpful as recommended. If it is eczema antihistamine creams might be useful. Some hydrocortisone creams are used. eg Propaderm. Antihistamine tablets eg Pyriton over the counter may help if it is contact dermatitis of the skin rather than eczema .The problem might disappear in a few days taking the Pyriton 3 times a day. I has helped my family with contact dermatitis.
Take care.
Go to your pharmacist if in doubt.
Hello, I have huge improvements after all of your suggestions, thank you so much. Your replays really caring from the heart, that's because, who ever I try to tell about my huge painful sufferings, they replayed with a few words, "rocking their shoulders every body has got eczema the water is causing this. "
I have taken notes of suggestions and determine to try one by one, to keep a bit away from the creams prescribed by my GP. Several times, when my hands were bleeding with pus and crack like a pieces of wood, GP kept prescribing different creams, which they ruined my hands causing damage, pain unbearable, shouldn't I take antibiotics? for the infected hands. Only Betnovate RD. (GSK) is a bit helpful but Dr. keeps refusing in anger, arguing forcing on different creams! from different pharma tic companies.
I have Rheomatoid artherites as well, pain already all over my body even on the nails , re flux stomach pain, caused taking pain killers for many years. Low blood pressure, sudden attacks lasting hours almost every day, (there is no treatment) Inflammation of lungs, I can not breath as I should most of time, dizzy fainting week feelings. I have more health problems.
Take care.
My daughter is Coeliac and only reasonably priced crisps that she could have were Seabrooks
Hi hulya. I really feel for you with the Eczema. I had it really bad on one foot for 13years. It was so painfull and the skin would crack and bleed. The skin was so thick and flakey. Many a time I would be close to tears with it. It use to drive me cracy.
I think I had everything going from my Dr and from a dermatologis, most of the differnt creams and stuff they gave me would make my Eczema burn like mad and make no real differnce.
Then when I went to see the arthritis knee specialist who is going to operate on my knees, he gave me a tub of cream called Epaderm. As soon as I started to use this the Eczema started to calm down, it was so smooth and it didn't burn, it just melted. I can't explain how wonderful it felt on my skin.
Then after a few weeks, no thick flakey skin, no cracking and bleeding, no burning pain and no uncontrolable urge to scatch your skin to death. My Eczema has now gone. My daughter in law has since started using it for her Eczema on her elbows and can't believe the differnce it has made and a couple of women I gave some of the cream to at swimming love it.
You could ask your Dr for it or you can get it from Boots at about £10. I can't thank my Knee specialist enough, the differrence it has made to my life after 13 years of suffering pain and discomfort with my foot.
If only there was something as magical as this for my fibro, anyway good luck with getting rid of your Eczema and best wishes sending you gentle hugs
Elaine x
Hi, I have been suffering the same way you have described above since 40 years. I have written EPADERM Cream on my list as well to try. It was even more painful and horrified for me, having Fibro since many years without knowing anything about it, at least I have some knowledge now, thank god. Thank you Elaine, I am sending you gentle hugs as well.
Hulya x
Hello, how are you, I am feeling better, egzema is going to be in control with your help and suggessions, thank you for caring for me. All the best, take care. Hulya x
Hi Hulya, I am so, so happy that you are feeling better and your Eczema is being controlled. I so hope that you manage to get rid of it altogether. I should have also told you that my knee doctor said "do not to let any soap on any area of your skin that you have Eczema, as soap will make the Eczema worse". Best wishes to you, gentle hugs, Elaine x
Hey, I did try coconut oil long time ego, irritated my hands even more, but used sparingly did not wear cotton gloves. I will try again the way you success. I keep fingers crossed for all the kind successions.
