It’s probly a daft question but any body become nervous at all,I’m like a nervous wreck the slightest thing can start me of I get a fluttering in my chest I get realy worked up.I do suffer with ANXIETY and depression plus other health problems.

The thing I’m not happy with I’m a male in mid 50s.I feel as if I’m not a man.

People have told me it could be to do with loosing my mom.

Hello,

My first reaction to your post is “ what a brave man to voice your thoughts and feelings of not “living up to” the man stereotype that society’s been brainwashed by over the ages.

Any person, man or woman can be affected by depression and anxiety...both emotional and physical symptoms are hell!

Do you feel this nervousness has become worse recently?

I’m very sorry your mum has passed... that’s a huge loss for most people...do you feel ok to say when that was?

Hi there I cared for mom for over 10 years she had loads of health problems osteoporosis, copd 2 heart attacks, heart failure, irregular heart beat. And to top it of she had vascular dementia.

She lost the fight on the 7th of jan 2019.Mom told me she felt like she was dying from the inside and she was right. She kepted asking me if she was dying.

After 6th time asking me I sat on the bed and held her hands and told her that she was dying and there was nothing more they can do.

At the time I thought I done the right thing.i kepted going over it in my head and yes I realised I should never have told mom. After moms death I had to live with that guilt.I told family of what I had done and to be honest with there answer 5/6 said they wouldn’t have told mom.A part of me regrets telling mom.I realised I just have to live with it.

Mom had been in and out of hospital for many years. After I told mom she was dying she gave up the fight and passed away within 40mins.

Forgot to mention I suffer with mental health and brain fog.I had ad them many years ago.

Hi Chance. There are so many men that suffer like you (and women) but don’t have the courage to talk about it. Anxiety doesn’t discriminate. When I feel overwhelmed or flighty, I sit and focus on five things can see, four things I can hear, three things I can feel and two things I can smell. It really helps my mind to calm. If I’m around my family I find it also helps if I say something like “I’m feeling really overwhelmed right now, not because of anything in particular, but I need time to get my head in a calm place again”. Just sharing helps and the feeling may stay a couple of hours or days - the problem is that it often takes at least a good week for me to recognise it in the first place!

I’m sure it will take a good while to feel in a better place after the loss of your mum, and this is probably increasing your symptoms, but tomorrow is another day and you are valued. Being a true man means being able to communicate your feelings and recognise what is going on with your emotions and thoughts, and you my friend are knocking it out of the park!
