super sensitive skin

Hi everyone, I have fibromyalgia, had it for 5 years now, I’m wanting to know to what degree do others suffer with their skin?

I have 3 little dogs , I have started to itch everywhere, on the lips, face, head, neck , arms, back , groin everywhere. My dogs seem fine. My husband has no symptoms. It’s awful, I already have face , head and neck skin sensitivity which stops me sleeping. I’m now unwilling to sleep until my bed is hoovered every night although the dogs are down stairs. My doctors are not worth the hassle. I hope I’m not alone . Thanks

hi, you are not alone, the lips drive me insane, I take piritese, which seems to help, but it still comes back, it’s something to do with the nerve endings.

I hope it eases soon.

Hi thank you for replying , sorry to hear you have similar, yes the flayed nerve endings, my doctor can’t relate. I sometimes think back to life before fibromyalgia and a decent nights sleep. Take care

I think trying something like Piritise might be a good idea like Blue says , the pharmacist seem too be really helpful nowadays and I seem lately too get good advice, keeping your bed clean is a good idea , I have a mattress protector on my bed I hoover once a week when changing my bed and the 2nd it gets washed and changed, not only is it lovely getting in a fresh clean bed it all helps being on top of any allergies . Itching can be a problem sometimes , il start too itch on my legs for no reason at all and if I get too hot. I bet your 3 little dogs are great company for you xx

Hi, yes they are thanks , I’m a bit wary of touching them lately which makes me sad. Thanks for replying, I’m constantly making sure hoovered and bleached down stairs floors, new dog bedding and always buy frontline and spray, furniture hoovered , basically killing myself trying to maintain my space. Exhausted.

please be careful with bleaching floors as you have dogs - they are then walking on it and licking it off their feet 😳

Hi, thanks for your reply, yes it’s not great on your health but I did get eye drops which have helped my eyes only. I’m sorry your doctor isn’t helping, mine is aware of how much is being spent on me, msk told me that, it’s a cheek considering my husband still works long hours. I’ve just bought some lavender oil and rosemary in the hope it will help my head and face at least. Smells nice.

Ooooh that sounds nasty 😞. I get occasional itchy hands and arms or these tiny random red spots that itch like hell. One spot and the whole limb needs chopping off! My go to is Eurax cream but this won't help many of your areas like face and lips but it may help other smaller less sensitive areas. Fexofenadine tablets are also worth a try as it has a different active ingredient to the standard antihistamines. Best of luck. I would rather have pain over itching 🙄 x

Thanks for your reply , I will enquire re that tablet, someone else mentioned it begins with F too. Pain hurts a lot but itching just drives me nuts. I also look crazy to my hubby; he’s never ill. X

I was thinking about a similar problem I have and my friend who was allergic got into the routine of washing her dogs every week in the hope of keeping her allergy at bay. I’ve just worked out that mine give me sinus inflammation and this leads to infections so I’m going to try this myself. I hope you find something to help.

I understand how you feel, I itch almost constantly from my scalp to my toes. Sometimes all over ,sometimes just one small area but really intense. I take antihistamine daily to take the edge off and am so carefull of what products I use for everything, personal and household. It's not a cheap way to live but worth it for my health, physical and mental,so I buy organic natural products, and wear cotton and linen when I can.

Some of the things you are using may be making it worse . Mine has improved not using strong products which are basically poison.

Not good for your dogs either, Mine don't constantly lick and scratch since i've changed everything I use.

I also cut every label out of my clothes as they drive me crazy, not just itchy but painful too.

Hope this may help, worth a try? Good luck. xxx

Hi I have pet allergy. When I had my dog I had to wash my hands straight after petting her. If I touched my face afterward I sure knew about it. I tended to avoid petting when possible albeit a bit sad. Compensated with too many treats. I found an anti allergy tablet daily helped. Just the cheap ones from the supermarket were fine. Just make sure they are non drowsy ones. I also hoovered daily downstairs and had a gate to stop my dog going upstairs. Keeping the house well ventilated helped too, it’s usually worse in the winter when door and windows are closed. Symptoms included intense itching, a feeling of having something in your eye, a sort of scratchy feeling at and worse sore irritated eyes with running nose as well. I would sometimes get blotching on my skin where she had leant against me. Unfortunately she isn’t with us any longer but with hindsight no more pets for me. Having fibromyalgia probably exasperated the intensity of the itching but now I don’t have her the symptoms have all stopped. Just a thought but if my bedroom is too warm I get all itchy and can’t sleep, might be worth considering this, also the body heat from my partner didn't help. I bought a clima cool form mattress. Fitness took a bit of getting used to but less sore since. I do hope you manage to get sorted soon, nothing worse than going to bed at night and not being able to sleep.

hi , thank you for your reply, It’s great to know that I’m not insane! Been sleeping on the settee for the last 3 nights, all the cleaning has caused a flare , my back has also flared, my hubby doesn’t take it seriously, but he is definitely missing me so hopefully he’ll be more thorough with his own washing as when he kisses me it sets me off again, so I have to wash my face , arms etc again, was thinking I’m allergic to him lol. He’s shaving now so that’s better. X

Have you tried taking any antihistamines (allergy tablets)? There are many different kinds so if one doesn't work you can always try another. My sister takes Zirtek for her allergies, but had to try a few different antihistamines before she found one that worked. Other antihistamines include Allevia, Clarityn, and Benadryl. But, I'm there are others as well. And, you don't need to buy the brand name versions of these drugs either. You can just buy generic shop brands (they're cheaper!).

Hi

I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia also about five years ago The doctor can prescribe you a antihistamines that I think a little bit stronger than over the counter one it begins with the letter F sorry I’m not at home at the moment so can’t get the full name of it . I tend to have an itchy scalp and itchy back. But I also get itchiness on my feet and hands but I’ve just been diagnosed with a Erymolalgia it’s a rare autoimmune disease that attacks feet mainly but can spread to hands face and legs if left untreated like mine has . I start to itch first that’s how I know when I’m getting a flair up on the body parts associated with this condition then my skin looks as if I’m sunburnt. I also get a burning Pain.

Hope the itchiness calms down soon for you take care x

Yes this has been an issue for me especially in the last year or so. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome in 94 but have always had an itchy back. I just thought it was hereditary from my mom who also suffered from an itchy back. In the last year I have noticed that my skin has become more sensitive and even stings especially neck, chest and hands. A pharmacist recommended elderberry which I have been taking for around 1 1/2 months now and has helped some especially the stinging on the back of my hands. Also have dry eyes, dry mouth, kidney function issues symptoms of Sjögren’s syndrome which I think maybe the cause of these issues. I had read that Sjögren’s syndrome is commonly found in people with fibromyalgia. My doctors tend to not really help in this case either say “it’s polypharmaceutical” or not address the problem. I was initially thinking that it was the aging process of my skin thinning but then recently I ran across an article that mentioned Sjogren’s syndrome which listed symptoms that I was totally unaware of it effecting kidney function issues, joints, thyroid, liver, skin, nerves etc. I have peripheral neuropathy but do not have diabetes which I asked why would I have neuropathy and was told thyroid disease will cause it. I had thyroid goiters that turned into cancer in 05, diagnosed with Hashimoto’s thyroid when they did pathology on my thyroid in 05. Excuse my ignorance but what is “bed is hoovered”? Is that the same as changing the sheets? I just haven’t heard this term before.

I get itching all over like you.I have had this symptoms for years.

It hurts to scratch but feels itchy and burning.

I use various creams and ointments but nothing is very convenient or that work very well.

I have just accepted it now and only use Aveeno cream.

Have you had a blood test recently? Itching can be a sign of diabetes. My itching was worse before the diabetes was diagnosed. The fibro itching I treat with aloe Vera gel. Hope you get some relief soon.
