What to include as evidence for PIP & in a pain diary?

Has anyone kept a pain dairy to use as evidence for PIP? I don't know what to include. I have the 12 statements written out so each day I can evaluate the tasks & how it affects me, pain tracker with triggers and where/when it hurts.

Is there anything else I would need to include such as sleep or food logs?

Hi Charleyspooniecorn,

I hope this finds you well and coping with life as it is right now.

It was quite a while ago I applied for PIP(2003) so can't really remember if there was anything else specific you should include, hopefully someone who has done it more recently will be in touch.

If you can, I would include your sleep pattern as this can be so detrimental to your daily routine, also the food diary could prove useful, rule out any dietary issues.

I know it is a lot for you to keep track of but it could be extremely beneficial.

Good luck with everything and remember and be kind to yourself.

Stay safe, keep well and be strong.

Hi when i had my pip assessment i sent in daily diary, on a typical day woke up in pain needed help to get to toilet, went back to bed husband who is my carer would make me breakfast get me water to take meds, would stay in bed for approx 2 hours for meds to take. Then i would need help dressing then get up . Through out the day i would need help having my meals cooked cause cant stand long, cant lift saucepans. Then end of day need help to shower etc. You also should mention night time pain and fatigue it causes. This is the way i wrote my daily diary with very little change from day to day it did help a lot because i was awarded pip . So as much detail as possible hope this helps x

I provided my physio diary for ESA & it was used against me as they focused on what I could do, however infrequently. I didn't provide one for PIP assessment as was bad at the time. I was asked if I kept a diary but just said I didn't have the energy to deal with domestic paperwork, never mind keeping a diary. Didn't affect outcome - got PIP at first attempt & ESA reinstated & put in support group as a result.

If you do hand over a record of how you are affected, make sure you focus on what you CAN'T do. You need to project how you are on your worst days.
