Frozen shoulder?

Hello everyone:)

Along with the usual fibro ups and downs ive had a consistent pain or pains in my right arm.It varies in pain levels and limits my strength and rotation,if i try to turn it certain angles its a real nasty stabbing pain which leaves me reeling :) had it for over six months and it never goes away:( could I have a frozen shoulder as a friend of mine suggested? Has anyone had this?thanks in advance :)))

Some of the symptoms you describe could be related to a "Frozen Shoulder". There could be elements of bursitis tendernitis....Over the last 15 years I have had numerous episodes. You really need to speak with your GP as there are a number of treatment options. I think I have most of them including physio, steroid injection and a manipulation under anesthetic. Sometimes they will go away on there own but if you have had it for six months then I do not think yours will. As I said speak with your GP because one of the dangers of not doing anything is certain muscles becoming wasted. I have quite serious muscle atrophy in my right shoulder. Despite having the treatments my muscle still became damaged. Hopefully if your problem is a frozen shoulder then a little bit of physio will help.

Definitely see GP. I had a whiplash injury years ago and now have arthritis and osteophytes which cause numbness, pain, pins and needles and weakness in arm. Also causes shoulder blade to stick.

Hope you get medical advice soon. Take care and keep it warm

Only just saw this lol. Have you have nerve tests for the winging? X

Will do thanks:) yes heat does numb it and helps temporally:)

Honestly It’s not a frozen shoulder 100% it’s more like my issue. It took me months and months to get help. It’s been 15 months since my arm went and only now it’s healing. You deffo need the tests I’ve mentioned as my neck was badly damaged in my accident too. It’s either what they call nerve compression or palsy. So it restricts the use of the long thoracic nerve which is responsible for the shoulder movement. It runs under into the muscles that are supposed to rotate your shoulder blade, so when this nerve isn’t working. It throws the whole thing out. Resulting in the scapula winging x

Thank you, defo taking action on this, big fear of losing any more function now,its a bit scary :(

Hello there. You need to see your GP. Can you raise your arm above shoulder height? I had the same thing after an accident. But I lost use of my left arm instantly. A few months later I developed scapula winging which is where the shoulder blade sticks out at the back when you try to raise your arm. This happens because the shoulder becomes unstable so doesn’t work as it should. Mine is as a result of nerve compression in my neck and I had an mri and nerve conduction tests which confirmed my nerve wasn’t working. Not saying it’s the same thing but it could be the start of it, i was dismissed by someone a year ago with it and I don’t want the same for you x

I mentioned it at the docs several times but all I got was a squeeze of the shoulders and extra strong painkillers to help me sleep, needless to say I havent taken them:( no I can't raise it up properly, theres no real strength then pain starts:/

Cathjamesandmatt20 profile image
Cathjamesandmatt20 in reply to sunnysanie

Have you got a pain doctor? If not then ask to see another younger doc. They are generally more up to date with things like this. X

It could also be a frozen shoulder though, do you use a walking stick at all? X

sunnysanie profile image
sunnysanie in reply to Cathjamesandmatt20

Nope no havent,I dont think my arm would have the strength, if it we're my left arm it would be not as bad i think :/

Cathjamesandmatt20 in reply to sunnysanie

That’s what I thought. That was before I realised what caused it lol x

Sounds like rotator cuff injury to me because of the stabbing pain you describe with certain movements! It can be agony I know but there are various treatments to help with the pain. First step is to see your GP who will then refer you for xray and maybe an ultrasound that's what happened with me and they said it was caused by wear and tear. I was given cortisone injection by my GP which really did help the pain. Good luck xx

Thanks for the insight,I defo need this seen to then, could be worse than I thought so will have to say listen this is not fibromyalgia related and I need it sorted properly!:)))

I always put mine down to my affair with Henry having been a school cleaner for many years! The repetitive motion can do it. Plus using industrial floor polishing machines which was all well and good but being only 5 ft one of the machines was as big as me😱Henry's the hoover by the way😂xx

That Henry has a lot to answer for :(

Thank you,I'm going to insist on it!:)

Also my bra strap wouldn’t stay on the affected side. The shoulder drops. Not sure if you’ve noticed that yet? X

sunnysanie in reply to Cathjamesandmatt20

My whole bra just hurts all over usually :o

Cathjamesandmatt20 profile image
Cathjamesandmatt20 in reply to sunnysanie

Yeah I’ve been wearing a sports bra for months as I can’t take the pain from a normal one x

sunnysanie profile image
sunnysanie in reply to Cathjamesandmatt20

Theres no way I'd even get a sports bra on......or off!!!:()

Cathjamesandmatt20 profile image
Cathjamesandmatt20 in reply to sunnysanie

There may be front fastening ones out there? X

Cathjamesandmatt20 profile image
Cathjamesandmatt20 in reply to sunnysanie

Also if you need or can raise your arm for any reason, always do it with your hand/ thumb pointing up. It rotates the arm and avoids pinching inside the shoulder further. I only got told that 2 months ago 🤦🏻‍♀️x

in reply to Cathjamesandmatt20

Im always adjusting that side of my bra but till you mentioned it I hadn't realised why! See you really do learn something new every day thankyou! Won't bother fiddling with that anymore 😂xx

in reply to sunnysanie

You really do need to insist, whatever it turns out to be it will probably be easily fixed and you'll be out of that extra pain once they get the ball rolling! xx

Have you got it too hun? Sadly it is just time and patience for the cure 😔 it’s taken me 15 months so far, it’s on the mend but I’m having repeat nerve tests soon to see how it’s healing.x

in reply to Cathjamesandmatt20

Don't think it's as bad as what you have mines rotator cuff injury and bursitis down to being a school cleaner for many years repetitive motion hoovering and using industrial floor polishers that were almost as big as me! I always tell people it's down to my long affair with Henry (the hoover) 😂look after yourself xx

in reply to

But my shoulder does droop down and aches all the time more than the other one😩xx

in reply to

They were gonna operate a couple of years back and I was all psyched up for it got myself in a right state about it then at the last appointment I had with the consultant he decided to go down the cortisone injection route instead could of saved me a load of stress preparing myself for it! xx

How are your boys? xx

Erm my youngest isn’t great hun. He’s struggling with life right now. Can’t get him up and out again. It’s horrible. He’s stuck in a stress loop as he needs to work to pay some bills but can’t face working. Thankfully I have his PIP to take the pressure off so I am gonna talk to him about doing that this month. It’s a Vicious circle because the more stressed and worked up he gets about things, it paralyses him with fear stopping him from getting out. He is also paranoid about health. His absent father was kind enough to make him think he has a stomach ulcer like him! So he wants an endoscopy 🤦🏻‍♀️ he sees him about 4 times a year and he never fails to make him worse. If he knew anything about his son he would tread more carefully. But he has always been in denial about his sons aspergers. Sorry for the rant 🙈😂xx

in reply to Cathjamesandmatt20

That's so hard been exactly where you are with my youngest boy and its hard enough without someone putting negative thoughts I to their heads, doesn't your ex know that the smallest comment can have a devastating effect on his son and make your life so much more of a struggle! I do feel for you 😔xx

Cathjamesandmatt20 profile image
Cathjamesandmatt20 in reply to

Thank you. He made him want to quit college and not go on antidepressants at other points. While I’d worked so damn hard to get him there. Honestly if it was down to me he’d never see him again. But Matt is 18 so he just gets a lift in rare occasions which makes me feel shit as I can’t drive. But in a small instance he does so much damage! Hate men 😂x

in reply to Cathjamesandmatt20

In general they're not great when it comes to giving support my husband always went for winding my son up rather than trying to help calm him down! Hope Zoonie don't see this🙈😂xx

Best get it checked especially if you dislocated your shoulder. That can actually impinge the nerve. Doctors generally are bloody useless these days, it takes us pushing to get a proper diagnosis and the help we needed months ago 🙄x

Cathjamesandmatt20 profile image
Cathjamesandmatt20 in reply to

That can cause nerve issues too. Like an RSI kinda thing. X

Cathjamesandmatt20 profile image
Cathjamesandmatt20 in reply to sunnysanie

I thought as much. It just sounded way too like what happened to me. Sadly I’ve had a long time living with it so I know a lot about it all. I’m glad I saw your post as it’s absolutely awful to be left with this. I’m taking legal action against this spinal surgeon as I sat in front of him with this and while yes he’s a surgeon he should have still advised me on the right path which is orthopaedics and a neurologist (only there now like) but he made me cry and then blamed my mental health for my issues! So I was there with nerve damage and palsy and he just made me feel crazy. I had the biggest break down and it’s one of the reasons I developed Fibro as my partner just left me and my son had severe mental health issues. So the docs said it’s no wonder I have Fibro after what I’ve been through. X

I damaged my neck not only the nerves are all compressed but the disks too. And I landed on my lower back while also injuring my neck 🙈 I’m at Walton tomorrow for another mri to see if I have cord compression as not only have I got multiple discs slipping one was indenting the cord last time. So if that’s the case I may need surgery 😔I’ve been housebound for 18 months nearly 19 now. No car no friends anymore. Can’t get out and all my appointments are via ambulance transport 😔 all this in one second falling in the bathroom. This site has been a huge lifeline for me 🤗 I really hope you get somewhere now you’re armed (pun intended lol) with more info x

Your cabin fever must be bad,a few days and I'm up the wall but uv got to look after you x

Yeah its not great. The first year was the worst, then they just left me on my own dismissing me and i appeared to recover a bit. So i managed to get out of the house locally for about 2 months last summer. Sadly all the meds i am on just masked the real issues which eventually just came back ten fold. Because they just told me to keep pushing so i did. How wrong they were. Its been about 8 months since i went anywhere but the hospital so yeah it sucks. Its weird as the brain just finds a way to cope, coping mechanism. So its made me kind of agoraphobic. Physically in not up to it yet which is really starting to get old. Thanks for taking time to listen i appreciate it x

Could be calcific tendonitis. I was diagnosed with this having put it down to the dreaded fibro. Left untreated can lead to frozen shoulder. Only way of knowing for sure is x-ray or scan.

Thank you all for all your help and insight,I was sent to hospital for an x-ray of my shoulder etc by the doc, very quick but a seven to ten day wait, fingers crossed on a diagnosis and it be a treatable one, will come back here to this thread and update, thanks xx

Hi there, how are you now? Do you have an update?

Have just read your thread and I have what physio said is a frozen shoulder but I'm not so sure and have now developed a fair sized lump at the back of my shoulder. Physio said lipoma, gp said cyst. From what I read it sounds like a paralbral cyst. But still, it's worrying.

Hello there:) well when I called the docs it took a fair while for them to receive any information, unfortunately the re eptionist said no further action so at least arthritis in the shoulder ruled out I think, its still bad when I get a flare up and its always uncomfortable and I'm aware of it:( could be worse:)I hope they give you a definite course of action and you improve :)))

Keep well and carry on :))
