I would like to say a huge thank you to friends and members, from many forums, who have contacted me to check we are OK.
Yes we get weather here and this weekend it has been horrendous. Many say the worse in living memory.
If you have ever been to The Canary Islands and experienced a Calima then you will understand. Multiply it by every number you can think of...add in a hurricane and you will be close.
As I write there is no natural daylight. It is red. Red dust which penetrates everything. Gets into cupboards, the pantry, draws...just everything. A choking red gritty dust. Anyone who suffers breathing difficulties has to wear a mask and barricade themselves in. The airports are closed to incoming and outbound flights. Malls, parks., eateries and bars shut. No one moves unless 100% essential. Schools will be closed tomorrow.
The hurricanes last night built up after dark. No one knew what to expect this morning but it wasn't good. Roofs gone, bins littering the streets, trees down, debris everywhere. Most of my garden ending up in our pool and there it will stay for now. We had closed the shutters but as it is an old house they don't quite fit anymore. Rattle as the wind whistled through. Blew open with me hanging out of the window trying to reach them. Had to wait for a lull then dash to catch them.
Dogs have been worried and stuck close to me. Not for themselves but to protect me of course!!
It will probably be gone by Tuesday but until then we are all on alert. Then the cleaning up and back to our normal gorgeous climate.
This is climate change first hand
