Hey guys. I went to the doctor last September cos for the past year after I finish work I'm in so much pain, my back, neck, shoulders and legs are so painful. I'm like this for the rest of the night. I'm so tired all the time even though I sleep 9/10 hours a night. I wake up still as tired as I was when I went to bed. The doctor did blood tests and I had a back xray, all clear. I went back yesterday and he told me I had fibromyalgia. He didn't to any of the tender point tests, just gave me a print out of information and gave me fluoxetine. I'm not sure of his diagnosis is right or if I'm in denial. I just know that the pain I'm in at night is horrendous. I only get it after being at work. Is this normal?

Hi, and a warm welcome to this lovely forum.
A lot of doctors and rheumatologists no longer rely on the tender point test anymore. Your GP has done the usual thing of doing blood tests, and also an x ray, so I am sure he was confident in his diagnosis of fibro.
You are probably in more pain at night because adrenal has kept you going during the day, when you know you have to push through to get your job done.
It will take a few weeks for the medication to kick in, so give it a little time to see if it helps and if not go back to your GP as there are other meds that can be tried.
Sorry to hear about your pain. Prior to being told I have fibromyalgia I experienced similar symptoms. Work activities made my conditions worse and I felt better when I had a few days rest. With this condition you need to pace yourself, what you have described is real. I was in denial until I reach the point that I could take no more. You may want to ask your employer to make reasonable adjustment. There is a scheme called Access to work that gives support to people in employment.
Best wishes 🌱
Thank you. I haven't told work yet. A bit scared to be honest. I work in a university coffee shop so its constantly busy. Can I get a letter from my doctor to confirm its fibromyalgia? Xx
Yes you can, which is what I did, in addition I was referred to a Rhuematology dept by the physio dept of another hospital. The job you have can be damaging for people with Fibromyalgia. Therefore, you need breaks in between. I know it is hard when we all need the money but trust me put your health first not career which was my mistake and now paying the price. I do think the system is a let down. Before you show the letter have a chat with Access To Work team which is a governmental dept. If you google it will come up.
Hope all goes well
Thank you so much. Xx

Hi
Sounds like you are having a hard time after working. I hope that your employer is understanding and you can continue to work for sometime in the future. With luck the medicine will help you and relieve your pain a little ( or a lot) .🤞Good luck and hope that you get things sorted.
Thank you ❤❤❤
