I feel like I am running out of options

Since the opioid epidemic hit crisis status in the US it has been extremely difficult to get medical pain management. And due to my comorbidities [liver disease, kidney disease, heart failure] I cannot safely take pain medication[s], my neurologist sent a referral to a local pain center back in early November [2019] they called yesterday and I have an appointment on Thursday morning [1/16/20]

I don't know if they can help me or not, but I will entertain my options. I want to get some of my energy back, I really have much to do.

I don't think I mentioned it here, back in November when I was in hospital with gout my 29 yr. old daughter overdosed on fentanyl [ here at home, in front of her babies who are 3 and 4 1/2 yrs. young] My grandchildren were immediately sent by Children's Services to live with their other grandparents [because my daughter overdosed here at my home where they lived], they live 2 hours away. My daughter is in treatment but it will be many months before she has a chance to get custody of her babies.

Because of my health issues it is not possible for me to care for them and they cannot live with me because my daughter overdosed here. This sent me into a massive fibro flare...needed that like I need another hole in my head.

It's a mad world. I fight every day to not be angry, to accept what IS, to trust in God, to love with all my heart, to forgive.

I appreciate all of you more than you know. Peace ✌ & Love 💕❤ ~Sharon

What an awful, personal, stressful time you are having at the moment. Having a daughter and granddaughter myself, I can't imagine how much pain and sorrow you must be feeling in your heart at the moment. As we know through stressful times our symptoms get much worse. Be sure to write an extensive list of questions in preparation for your appointment and take it with you. Ask about medications, alternative therapies, physio and support groups. I hope your daughter and grandchildren will also recover. xx

Life for you must be hideous, I hope you get something to control the pain and give you a chance to get your energy back, at least some of it. Understanding some of the issues around ODing I send all my love and strength to you and your daughter, and pray you get the help and support you need xx

Hello, I understand the Opioid/Liver problem. Have you tried an anti depressant called Duloxitine. It has an odd side effect of working on nerve pain.

Quite difficult in my case to get used to it in the first place with side effects etc. I managed through perseverance. Slow but sure. But, not everyone gets this and it seems to help. Good luck.

Hi Tootiepie,

I did try the duloxetine [30 mg once a day] after 6 weeks I saw no difference, better or worse, so I stopped taking it. Thank you for your response, ~Sharon

Hi Cape_Cod_Sharon, I'm not sure if this might help but I am on 120mg !!! Built it up slowly over quite a long period of time. I didn't like the side effects but stayed with it and Im glad that I did. The good thing about it is that it helps with depression and Fibro. Also its not a pain killer so is kinder on your liver and kidneys. Another prescription that I tried was Gabapentine, and Naproxine. However, they may not be good for you given your other health issues. We are all stumbling in the dark, but it seems that some medication can help alleviate some of the pains for certain people on certain medications. I think that its hard, but its all worth trying. Hi Zoonie,

I went to the pain clinic this morning. We are going to try injections neck, head and shoulder and physical therapy specifically for fibromyalgia pain.

I am not sure what you meant when you wrote "I suspect that they will be a bit negative about you having chemicals..."

And I do meditate and use relaxation videos to help me sleep.

If the injections and/or PT do not alleviate my pain we can try a 7 day pain patch [buprenorphine] Butrans skin patch.

I am on the right track and feel hopeful today.

In peace ✌ & love ❤, Sharon
