Some people find that medication helps to take the edge off pain, but very few people get total relief. Many people find they get no benefit from any meds, or side effects are too much a problem to continue taking. It can be very much a case of trial and error to find the right combination for your

Meds that help with neuropathic pain often work better than traditional pain medication (common used meds include amitriptiline, duloxetine, Gabapentin, Pregabalin, tramadol)

Pacing, self management and pain management techniques are key to managing your symptoms.

As Hidden says some exercises can be very helpful but start off gently. The only thing that has helped me is Pregablin but unfortunately I can't take it at a high dose as it makes me zombified but it is one med that has taken that terrible edge off. I also take an anti-inflammatory for my arthritis which must also help the fibro inflammation as when I ran out my tender spots got very painful. Good luck in finding something that suits.x

thankyou, I cant stand it, just been so bad I cant move my neck, my arms and hips all are killing me. along with my lower back bulging disks :( I try to work out and will be in a flare up for 2 weeks and it might not start for a few days after the actual workout. Its very weird. my ribs kill me everymonth to all of them all the way around esp. under breasts. all up the back of my head causing headaches... ugh I sound like a mess. I do have a pain clinic appointment today ....we'll see but Ive been dissapointed alot in finding treatment.

well NO they were absolutly 0 help said my only option is to go through and get the pain block procedure done. Its not fun to go through and I recall having it done before and not getting alot out of it. I told her that and she said I could go than because theres nothing else she can do for me!!! also getting that getting them done again cans end me into a fibro flare. I just want to scream!! why am I not offered anything?? no help at all. every day pain. she said "wow you have a lot of arthritis and degeneration for your age and weight" yes it hurts a lot everyday :( so Im very upset IDK WHY I would pay for insurance to the tune of 200$ per month!! for that!! (sorry for the rant) and its been awhile. just been upset about that visit thanks for asking!! :)

pomagranite1010 granite1010Rant away I can tell you are bitterly disappointed and I don't blame you. We build our hopes up so high in the hope that they will come up with something new and so many people are just offered the same old things. I know my friend who has arthritis has had a few of those pain blocks, initially a temporary one to see how she reacted and then they would no a permanent nerve block. She was thrilled when she came round as for the first time in several years she was pain free in her back but as soon as the aneasthethic wore off she was back with the pain she said never again. Have you tried a Tens machine as some people have found that helps.

I used to have electroacupuncture down my spine with the pain clinic but the NHS started restricting how many sessions in a year you could have. Initially they were giving me them every two to three weeks and I could really feel that the sessions were starting to lower the pain, then every six weeks, then 3 months and in the end only every 4 months. It helped for a few weeks but would then ratchet up again. Then the Pain Specialist retired and they used that as an excuse to stop all the Outreach clinics. In the end I found someone who was conversant with Chinese medicene/acupuncture and he is very good as he treats the whole person not just the isolated pain. He knows alot about diet as well and has helped with that. Just a lovely, kind man to talk to and sometimes I think that is what we need just someone who "gets" fibro and doesn't dismiss what we are going through on a daily basis. Take care and thanks for letting me know how you "didn't" get on.x
