Will working affect my claim?

Hi, I'm just wondering if the acessor has the right to ask if your working, it doesn't ask the question on the application form for PIP. Reason I'm asking is, I can't afford not to work, but it's only 15 hrs. I don't the acessor to think I'm ok just because I work. It's very light work.

You can claim PIP whether you work or not. They want to know how your condition or conditions affect you on a daily basis. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Thank you Lynne, why I'm worried is because this is my second claim, due to me having more ailments. I went to an appeal the first time, and all the panel did was go on and on about my work. I explained that when I got home I couldn't move because of the pain, but couldn't afford not to work. I was refused. Do I have to tell them I'm working, I was off work for five weeks lately, with stress and pain.

PIP does not worry if you work. It is only concerned with how you do daily routine things like getting showered and dressed, and how far you can walk, as it states in all the literature, you can work and still get PIP.

The thing about work is how it effects your work life have you been off ill have work made allowances for you do you cope in work just tell them hunny you said you ve had time off how often r u late due to your condition they want to know how its effecting all your life lol n if you work stood up for 5 hours a day yet say you cant manage the walk to the bus unaided they want to know why that is too i used to make drinks at work yet all my crockery at home is plastic cos i drop everything they asked if i dropped cups at work yup n how i managed but as i only pressed a button lifted it onto counter for customers to get n i still got burned they understood lol does that make sense or am i waffling dont worr6 too much if you are straight with them n dont make out your fine when your obviously struggling you ll b ok xxxxxxxxx

It greatly depends on the work. There are some people work in an adapted work area perhaps doing computer work. However they still need help getting dressed or preparing food or traveling to and from the work place or they cannot grip items etc. Providing you are not claiming points for problems which obviously affect your ability to do your light work I would not worry.

Hi just to let you know i work 15 hours a week have had my workstation adapted for me. When the accessor came to see me for pip she also asked about my work . Regardless whether you work or not it wont affect your claim just had new reward for pip high mobility standard day care good luck x

When I last had to renew my DLA all they kept on about was that I worked in a children's nursery so I must be alright. I worked lunch times and I was only there to make the ratios right over lunch and to oversee the trainees who weren't counted in the ratios. It wasn't physically demanding and I could sit or stand whenever I needed to. I went to tribunal and the chairperson was horrible. When she told me the original decision was upheld she said "I don't believe a word you have said" . I managed to get to the second tier tribunal on the grounds that the paperwork looked as if it had been written before I was even seen (I don't know where that came from). At my 2nd tribunal a gentleman from the DWP appeared and I was told to take his advice over whether to continue because I was at risk of losing the mobility part of my previous award. Needless to say, I wasn't too impressed by that but he was lovely. He advised that I ask for an adjournment so that I could try and find someone to appear with me. I went to the welfare rights department at our local council and they advised me not to continue. I felt that if I didn't carry on it could appear that I hadn't told the truth so I went to another tribunal. The same man turned up and when it came to the fact that I work part time the man from the DWP told them that it had no relevance to any award I might be given. He quoted from the DWP "Bible" at some points too. I ended up with high rate mobility and low rate care. I am waiting with much trepidation to be transferred to PIP. I don't work now so hopefully that might help a little.

You can work and claim PIP, Its ESA that you can't work with.
