Exercise for Fibromyalgia

Hi everyone, just wondering if anyone has experience with Cocolime Fitness exercises? She has a youtube channel with free workouts and a website where you can pay for programs. The workouts are designed for fibro and chronic fatigue issues. Thanks for your input!

Hi, Thank you for sharing that. Ive not seen it before. I can only speak for myself but Watching it and seeing her go through the exercises I wondered if she actually got what people were going through with Fibromyalgia and fatigue??

I would love to be able to do that! I try and do what I can on good days, so on one of these few occasions I decided to go swimming at the local ‘disability swim’ thinking the warm water and the no weight baring would help, 15 mins in I had to get out because of the severe pain. I paid for that all the following week and the extreme pain in my joints hasn’t left me from 3 weeks ago.....However as I say i can only speak for myself and wish all the best to those that can manage it.

Thanks so much for the response! Yes, I think for some the exercises would be too much, but she has some simple stretches, too. And I noticed some good feedback on the videos. She encourages not to push yourself too much, and to listen to your body, so I like that approach for sure... we'll see...

Oh yes you do have to listen to your body, my friend who has fibromyalgia started Tai Chi about 5 weeks ago which has helped her a lot but quite expensive on 1-1 sessions.

Every one is at different stages living with pain so whatever works for you is ok. 😊

Hmmm. I did exercise for one whole year after I was first diagnosed. Initially with guidance from a physiotherapist and later on my own.

I attended twice a week and when things became too painful, switched from Pilates type exercises, to Tai Chi and finally Hydrotherapy - which I paid for privately.

A day or two after each session - especially, in the first six months, I felt like I'd been beaten up and left for dead.

It became increasingly more difficult to attend and undertake the exercises so was advised to switch to Tai Chi.

Unfortunately, I couldn't sustain this either because although the - delayed pain and exhaustion was much less, I experienced dizziness and balance problems while undertaking the exercises. After a couple of falls, it became clear that I couldn't continue. I also couldn't maintain any stance that involved having my arms raised and held at shoulder height or above.

The Hydrotherapy was brilliant. My only regret is that I couldn't afford it for very long.

I now do about half an hour of Callanetics when I feel able.

Do whatever you can to maintain your health and core strength.

As my father used to say - Use it or Lose it.

All the best going forward.

There is no doubt that exercise is of great importance with Fibromyalgia. My concern is that many people with fibromyalgia have other conditions which can make any exercise programme complex with no size fits all answers. On my pain management programme the exercises are constantly being modified to suit the needs of the individual. Yes this exercise could benefit some but not others. It would be interesting to find out what professional input went into the development of this exercise plan. The reason I ask is that I instantly become weary when the person advertising plans to make money out of it.

Yes I agree. Suzanne was a fitness trainer herself and then got sick with fibro & fatigue so she developed this stuff on her own just to help herself. Based on the responses to her videos that I see, I don't think most people think she's out for money. They seem to be very thankful for what she's doing. But you're right - good be careful!

Hi

I exercise all the time & find it really helps. However, personally I would never recommend an online fitness course in your circumstances. I think it’s really important to find a good instructor & have them in the room with you. They will be able to correct your posture, adapt exercises to your ability & ensure that you are working safely at your pace. This will reduce stress to the body, stop injury & allow you to progress safely. I found that Pilates really helped me when I first developed my problems. Good luck

Thanks for sharing. A personal trainer would be awesome for sure - as long as they truly understand people with our conditions... thx!

Ive had a look at it on YouTube and looks fine if you have the energy and a low level pain day.just pace yourself and see how it goes.i used to be a gym junkie.i find cycling the best exercise for me now low impact and keeps the leg strength and the weight flys off haha was a positive for me.lets know how you get on with it.anythings better than nothing exercise wise.
