Hi

The short answer is no

But as it prevents blood clotting it is advisable to be able to inform people should she ever have a injury .

I keep a list of meds ,dosage and illness's in my Rucksack ,Handbag and anything else I am likely to have with me when going out .

Mainly due to being on long term steroids ,having a Under active Thyroid and recent Heart Attack .

All meds that would be life threating if stopped

Hi, as Rose54 says in her reply is no.

Clopidogrel is an Anti-Platelet drug, it stops your blood from clotting.

I have taken it for many years. You have to inform any Healthcare Professionals that you attend that you take it as you may have to stop for a short period if you’re having a Procedure, or an operation. Also when you cut yourself, or have bloods done, you will bleed a bit more than normal.

Hope this info helps.

GP 😊😊

Hi ,

I was just reading that you have been on Clopidogrel for many years .I thought that you could only take it for 12 months at a time. Each time I see my Cardiologist he checks this out..

Just mentioning it because i wouldn't like to hear of any harm coming to you because of it..

Take Care.

From my memory this is a blood thinner to prevent blood clots,, many places prescribe aspirin BUT if your mum is at risk of clots clopidog is a good med.. I wouldnt think she needs to carry a card as it might only be a short term measure.

Husband was on it and had to stop for two weeks before he had surgery. He couldn't stay on it as he had really nasty bruising and nose bleeds. Like all meds they suit some folk and not others. Husband always carries card with his meds on as there are so many.

As others have suggested the answer is no. Unlike Warfarin the affects of clopidogrel are short term. By that I mean the thinning affect is less and stays in the system a shorter time. It can be prescribed by GPs instead of aspirin to thin the blood.
