worried about ESA assessment.

Hi all,

i have my assessment on 22nd May and i can honestly say i am bricking it. i know that my daughter is coming with me problem being she had never been to one of these and she can be rather frank and straight to the point as she had seen how my life has changes due to the amount of pain i am in. i have not yet been diagnoised with fibro and i did not know what it was or even heard of it , it was my daughter who mentioned it,as she works in a GP surgery and she had had a word with one of the doctors there and he said that is more likely than not that i had fibro, if only he was my doctor. alas i am not at that surgery. so if anyone had any tips on how things may go and things i may be asked to do at this assessment then please let me know.

kind regards

janet

Hi dobie62

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I have never attended or undergone anything of this nature, but I have pasted you the link to ATOS website and their explanations as to what to expect and how it all works? So I genuinely hope that you find this useful:

atoshealthcare.com/claimant...

I would always say to people, just be yourself and be honest! If you cannot do something do not let anyone say otherwise. Be calm, and explain everything but do not volunteer any information of things that you can do which can be used against you?

I want to wish you all the best of luck and please let us all know how you get on?

All my hopes and dreams for you

Maybe I can help you , I've had an ESA done by ATOS , some people are recording their interviews , due to ATOS bending the truth , the first part is mainly questions and you are sat down , may I suggest after 5 mins you get up , say I cant sit for too long , next they might ask you to get on a bed , tell them you cant , don't leave anything out about you're condition , don't give them any excuses to fail you , and good luck , I've got my fingers crossed for you , if I have another I will be taking my friend whose an ex policeman , let us know how you get on , and if my little bit helped , I thought I would pass on my knowledge , because I failed the test .

Totally agree with Jeff. I had mine a few weeks ago and failed it as I did not apparently show any pain. Apparently it is someone who reads the doctors report and then allocate the points. I was on my ow, feeling very nervous and did everything I was asked without saying how much pain I was in. Wish my daughter had been able to make my appointment. Good luck and take care.

Hi there so can remember how worried I was when I sent my last claim in. I went to a sight named mybenefitclaim . com. there it said that 2/3 of your claim is supported by your doctors so would advise that your telling him of all your symptoms no just the pain. See I get wide spread pain but how does it limit me and how does it affect me. Right with that said you need then to write a letter if you haven't put it in your claim (if like me I never quite remember) and make sure you send off this to them and any evidence supporting this. I gave up my licence so sent along the receipt from dla also my doctor had asked me to do this . I pass out everywhere consumed with sudden to gradual exhaustion lots of things like this my memory would aggravate any working environment . Well with this all said or ill be doing the fibro ramblings on you hope this helps you understand what's needed. If you could push yourself as far as you can and see how this affects you and how often this will help you too and what to right to them with a little more clarity. By the way I got my claim this time without a medical so good luck love and blessing xxx

Hi just a quick few words I know just how important a claim can be but don't forget this illness is for the rest of your life and we need to know how to manage this and still manage a little of the lives we live. Is there any fibro management courses in your area it helped me to start understanding my illness and accepting it, or you could ask your doctor if there is any help out there in a way of a course. xx

Hi dobie62 The best advice I can give you is let your daughter have her say, no matter how direct, because they need to hear it. As for all the other things be brutally honest, no matter how uncomfortable this makes you, this is an error some people make. If they upset you show it don't hide any of your feelings.
