Sleep is key

Five years after having Thyroid Cancer and having a total thyroidectomy. I finally found the answer to the reasons why I was feeling so ill. Going back and forth to the GP with little or no help,I decided to write down all my symptoms and we had a Eureka moment, and was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, where the correct medication was issued to ease all my symptoms. I discovered for me, that I needed at least 9-10 hours to function for work and to do anything meaningful in my days off work. If I fail to meet my sleep requirements then I suffer the following day, generally falling asleep at my desk at lunchtime and pains in my legs and joints and a pounding headache. I looked at this forum in the hope that I was not alone and was surprised at how many people suffered with this awful condition. I have found what works for me and hope that you find what works for you.

Thats great Savvie, I guess I am fortunate in that unlike others on here I do sleep, although still wake up unrefreshed as I dont seem to reach deep sleep. Still, it is better than not being able to get to sleep/being awake all hours as many on here find.

Yes you are very lucky. A lot of people with the condition don't sleep and before you recommend anything, I've tried it all. x

Wouldn't recommend, as it seems to me that every person has to find out what works best for them. I purposefully haven't listed the drugs or anything else I have to do to get to sleep. I'm not saying that the quality of my sleep is good either. I just have to be in bed for at least 9-10 hours a night whatever the sleep quality to function.

Hi

Yes, I'm pleased you don't have sleep problems. I get an hour or less cos I get woken with pain. The worst are when I haven't slept for 2 or 3 nights!! I just try and grab sleep when I can. If u have half an hour during the day, it makes no difference to night time cos I've got that much sleep to catch up on 💤 thinking of you all. Lots of love and hugs Lynne xxxx

Savvie the title of your comment caught my attention, SLEEP sure works for me at least 10 hours and I can make it through the day with out a nap, as long as I don't vacuum or preform any other stressed activity. My new neighbor said "WHAT"? You shouldn't need that much sleep...rolling my eyes here! Works for me and my FIBRO! I was having a problem with falling a sleep and waking in the night. So my doctor put me on Amitriptyline 50mg and to take one an hour before you want to go to bed. I sleep like a baby and wake refreshed with not being groggy. These two things have helped me the past year so whatever works for you and you are happy and your cat lets you sleep do what helps you to at least get a good nights sleep!

I know exactly what you mean. I have worked out that the only time I feel I have normal energy and no pain us after a lot of sleep. Went on holiday for the first time with just my husband and no friends or family and we slept for ages the first three days. After that I was fine. Now back in my usual routine I am trying to get more sleep but it never happens after work we always have something to do, deliveries, housework, visiting my father I law twice a week at least, who is now on his own. When we get home have tea should really go to bed then but to get any quality time after work usually sit for an hour reading or watching TV . Then by the time cleared up and ready for bed, always seems to be between 11 to 12 at night. Then up 6.30 again. Often don't even hear alarm I'm that deep in sleep, even with it by my ear. It's an awful cycle. The feeling of how it was on holiday fades when busy and that's without trying to exercise i would like to go for a sort run on longer walk each night. Just not enough hours in the day. You are right though after wondering for ages I finally worked out sleep is the answer to lots of aches and pains, like rest is good for anxiety.
